Plan a Safari to Africa With Teens

Teenagers can be a handful no matter if you are at home or on a safari. Teenagers tend to be moody, get bored easily and would rather spend their time doing homework than hanging out with Mum and Dad.

Steps
  1. Choose safaris that add an element of excitement such as a canoeing safari or overnight trekking safari. Opt for River rafting if you are travelling with teenagers. Other great Africa adventure tours include whale watching in South Africa and snorkelling in Kenya.
  2. Include in your African safari when travelling with teenagers is a shopping trip to the local markets. Teenagers, especially female teenagers, love to shop. Let them pick out some special cultural trinkets to show to their friends back home.
  3. Opt for a beach trip as well. Teenagers love the sun and the sea so let them bronze their bodies and relax on Africa's beautiful white coasts and tranquil tropical water.
  4. Plan ahead and do your research when looking into teenager-friendly activities. Also, ask for your teen's opinions on the activities they would like to do. This will get them more excited about your African family safari.
  5. Make sure your accommodation has internet so they can spend their down time chatting to their friends. This will prevent them from complaining about being away from the world and disconnected from the gossip.
  6. Let them have free time to explore the grounds, lounge around the pool or hang out in the hotel room alone. You will most likely be spending all day together, whether on a safari or shopping in town, so give them some breathing room.
  7. Treat them like Adults. Teenagers demand respect. And they deserve it. Let them listen to their iPods from home, let them eat what they want (to an extent) and let them be a part of the decision making process from the beginning. After all, it is their African safari as well.
