Survive in a Foreign Country As a Tourist

Have you ever been to a foreign country before and you don't know the language and are not too savvy on the culture? Here is how to ease your journey.

Steps
  1. Before you go to the foreign destination, study the spoken and written language. if you are going to China or Japan, for examples, learn the symbols for "security" and learn how to ask for directions in that language if you get lost.
  2. If you can afford to, go on a group tour of the destination you are going with. This way you can travel in groups and there is a good chance that one of the people in your tour group knows how to converse with the locals if you get lost in the Red Light District or some other place.
  3. Pack as much clothing as you need but pack light if you can.
  4. If you buy souvenirs, try to see if it is possible to mail them.
  5. Bring a camera with you on your journey.
  6. And last but not least, have fun.

Warnings
  • Study the laws of the places you visit. For instance, if you are in Singapore, don't spit on the street or you can get arrested.
  • Don't pay attention to beggars and peddlers. The moment you acknowledge them, they are hooked on you as if you were their meal ticket. But you may want to take their picture when you are on your tour just for the cultural experience.
  • In some countries, when going to the bathroom, you may see a person of the opposite gender walk in while you are doing your "business" in places like Japan, this should not be alarming. If the cleaning lady walks in while a guy is going to the restroom, it's not a big deal.
