Hamas is the aggressor; it attacked Israel with countless rockets long before Israel responded.
Since when is war a mathematical equation? The basic objective of any warring party is to inflict maximal damage on the enemy while minimizing its own casualties. Was there anything proportional about the US war in Iraq ? Or about Iraq 's invasion of Kuwait for that matter? Or about Russia 's recent war against Georgia ? Israel is doing exactly what any other country has done in the past. This is how war works.
Would a British citizen complain that "too few" British soldiers are being killed in Iraq ? Probably not.
And on a more elementary note: Palestinian military inferiority is not an indication of moral superiority. Palestinian insistence on resorting to violence despite this military weakness is an indication of poor judgment perhaps - yet it is by no means an indication of moral virtue. Being militarily weak does not make the Palestinians right. |

Oh, so if 700 Israelis would die than it would make it right, would they win then ???
Aggressor is one that starts a war, winner is the one that wins it. In that border squeamish with Hixbabaloobas, you know the Lebanon thing, hixbabaloobas lost 1800, yet they are daily declared victorious, so now you change the rules, qasams just firecrackers, grads just cherry bombs, Palestinians just victims, ow Arabs are masters of it, the world ain't buying it this time.
Evil is evil, now idiot is : Idiot is a word derived from the Greek ἰδιώτης, idiōtēs ("a private citizen," "individual"), from ἴδιος, idios ("private," "one's own").
OK .. now lets have a good EVIL answer.
You used to be funny on the Lebanon site, I liked you better when you were funny. |

Hamas has fired more than 6000 mostly Qassam rockets into Israel over the past four years.
They have killed only about two dozen people, although in other acts of terrorism Hamas has killed hundreds of Israelis.
But Israel must stop, or greatly reduce, the rockets from Gaza. It is an absolute strategic necessity.
Perhaps the stupidest line of analysis to emerge in recent days has been to compare the deaths from Hamas rockets in Israel to traffic fatalities and say that Israel should relax.
To grasp the nature of the strategic threat Hamas poses, it is necessary to place it in the context of its ally, Hezbollah, in southern Lebanon, and their common backer and puppet master, Iran.
During Israel's 2006 war with Hezbollah, rockets continued to rain down on Israel as far as the big industrial city of Haifa. There was an acute fear within Israel, although not much spoken of, that Hezbollah rockets would hit a massive oil refinery in Haifa. The flow-on effects from this could be catastrophic. During that war, much of northern Israel was effectively paralysed, and certainly closed for normal business.
Despite the mistakes Israel made in that war, it got some things right. At the start of the conflict, it knocked out Hezbollah's longest-range missiles that could reach Israel's biggest city, Tel Aviv.
And since then, the missiles have not come back from the north.
Now they come from Gaza in the south. They not only terrorise the small Israeli town of Sderot, they frequently now reach Ashkelon, the industrial city that ironically provides electricity to Gaza. (There must be few occasions in history when a nation is expected to supply electricity to factories building rockets designed to blow up the electricity plant.)
There are also chemical plants in Ashkelon that could be hit.
At the moment, Hamas does not have rockets of sufficient range and accuracy to hit any of these targets reliably. Apart from the Qassams, it uses Chinese-made Grad missiles and Katyushas, and some longer-range Iranian-supplied Fajr missiles.
Hamas is recognised by the UN as a terrorist organisation. It is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. Apart from its repeated and blood-curdlingly clear rhetoric, the Hamas Charter shows that it has no negotiable aims. It wants the destruction of Israel and the death of the Jews.
Although a gruesomely extreme organisation, it does command significant popular support among Palestinians. However, it really won its one big election victory because it was seen to be, unlike Fatah, not irredeemably corrupt and because, like a number of sophisticated terrorist movements, it ran some social welfare activities effectively.
In the past year or two, however, it has transformed itself into a terrorist army. Hamas and Hezbollah are both grassroots popular movements. They are also both arms of state power, mainly Iranian but also Syrian.
From Israel's point of view, it is very clear that if it leaves Hamas alone, Hamas will gather more and better rockets, long-range and with better guidance systems.
Hamas and Hezbollah together can then present two types of strategic threat to Israel, beyond merely killing its citizens. They can shut down vast swaths of Israeli society and industry with a rocket offensive. Or they can hit strategic targets, at least from Dimona to Haifa.
Israel had no alternative but to act, although how it will restore a future equilibrium in Gaza remains deeply unclear |

THE TRUTH IS HOLY
 |
The aggressor: The Arabs. Morality is not determined by math. If three women were killed while being raped and 521 fought back and killed their attackers/rapists, by your logic, you would side with the rapists. Israel is conducting a purely defensive military maneuver forced upon them by vicious terrorists. Who knows how many 9/11 type of events Israel has prevented by their actions over the past ten days? |

Hi,
The one that shoot the rocket first, and hide behind children and women while firing the rockets.
By the way, number of death cannot determine any party as aggressor, and blockage was lifted last Oct only to be greeted with more rockets, so the border was closed again.
So pal, relax. . . don't be too sentimental about the matter, but be objective. If a nation is not as strong, why act tough by firing more rockets and make the normal citizen suffered? why not try giving up rockets?
If no more rockets been fired, and Israel still invade, I will agree with both hands lifted saying, Israel is aggressor.
But again, which ever side is aggressor, death is not a good thing in any quarrel.

Hamas has been shooting rockets into Israeli residential areas for years. Hamas is therefore the aggressor.
Israel and Gaza signed a cease fire. Israel respected it but rockets continued to be shot from Gaza into Israel.
Hamas is therefore responsible for ALL these deaths. |

Hamas is a cynical organization that sacrifices the lives of its people in order to make bad public relations for Israel. They have been bombing Israel for 8 years. A Christian friend of mine who was in Nam said to me today that the people who complain the response is not proportionate are fools. How proportionate was the US reaction to Pearl Harbor? It was WWII. Shooting rockets at another country is an act of war. He said the Israelis should just bomb them back to the stone age so they have no more rockets to send. He pointed out the Mexican War between the United States and Mexico began with a Mexican attack on American troops along the southern border of Texas on Apr. 25, 1846. Fighting ended when U.S. Gen. Winfield Scott occupied Mexico City on Sept. 14, 1847; a few months later a peace treaty was signed (Feb. 2, 1848) at Guadalupe Hidalgo. In addition to recognizing the U.S. annexation of Texas defeated Mexico ceded California and , New Mexico (including all the present-day states of the Southwest) to the United States. He said that the Arabs attack Israel and lose land and just keep it up. He said the mistake Israel makes is giving up the land. |

The only reason there was an embargo was because the UN declared it when Hamas took over Gaza after a brief civil war there. Egypt also imposed the embargo while Israel kept allowing money and goods to enter at various times as well as continued to provide free medical treatment to Gazans.
Anyways Hamas kept shooting rockets into Israel even after signing a cease fire. So they broke there agreement and Israel did nothing until the cease fire date ended.
Hamas did it to themselves, they should have respected the cease fire that they agreed on. They ruined there respectability and now Israel refuses to sign another cease fire since Hamas will ignore it anyways |

Chamas is the aggressor. Israel is DEFENDING itself. Since 2005, Chamas has launched 6,500 missiles at Israeli homes, schools and businesses. And for the most part, Israel has sat back and held back. But at some point, enough is enough.
Yes, there are more Palestinian civilian casualties. And that is unfortunate and sad. But this is because Chamas (which doesn't give a crap about its own citizens) hides its artillery and weaponry (and themselves) in and near civilian homes, classrooms, universities, parks, etc. So Israel has no choice here. They are doing their best to AVOID civilian casualties, but Chamas has given them no choice.
It's not about who has more casualties. It's about who wants peace and who doesn't. If a terrorist group launched rockets into Manhattan EVERY DAY FOR MONTHS, (whether the bombs killed few or many), don't you think the American government would have the right to demolish that weaponry and the militants?
War isn't pretty. It's awful. But don't blame Israel for it. They're doing what they have to do to halt terrorist violence. |

Debate D

It's not a math class, what's it got to do with anything?
There are more dead on the Palestinian side because of this:
Hamas hides in and launches their attacks from civilian encampments.
Then when civilian casualties occur they blame their opponents.
So, it's ok for them to attack civilian entities and cause casualties but it's not ok for Israel to attack their military encampments which are embedded in civilian areas.
Cowards. They like hiding behind and using women and children for shields.

Firstly, there were not 3 people killed on the Israeli side. By missile and rocket attacks only and up to the end of 2008, its in excess of 900!..Add to that the terrorist attacks through car bombings, shootings, suicide bombs etc, the number climbs into the thousands. Then add all the permanently injured and maimed and the figure climbs into the tens of thousands.
As for the person claiming their child answered, all I can hope is that you only have the one child to fill with your vile hatefilled brainwashing. |

I think you need to go back further than the eight years of rockets to the suicide bombers that killed so many from time before you were even born probably.
The Pals started this long ago and has fed the fire ever since. This recent atrocity of using the civilian population as cannon fodder and teaching them it's great to die is just a part of the overall pic. Pals don't want peace. There is too much free goods coming in for them to give up the charity and actually build a society that functions for the people instead of party leadership.
That won't work will it? Muslim don't believe in democratic ideals. |

Evil, notice how all the Israelis answered the exact same way.
They always shoot with "Oh Yeah, well Hamas fighters hide behind Kids" or "Hamas are Firing rockets at us, so we're just Defending ourselves"
They sound like Zombies...
lol, Throw in a michael Jackson and you got yourself a Music Video!
Don't you see? The Israelis have been trained to reply to such questions through the "Victim approach".
... And THAT'S why it's pointless to argue with an Israeli.
They'll be worth our time Once they start admitting their faults...
And if they're not sure how, maybe they could start with this:
"Oh Boy! What the F*ck are we doing here? We're drenched in Palestinian blood!! I bet the Arabs think we're really Stupid for believing the Urban Myth that GOD wants us to live here and that we're His "Chosen" people..." |

people are making it a fight like little kids..."but they started", if i slap you and you shoot me for slapping you does it matter who started it???
i was wrong to do something although it doesn't affect you much but your "self defence" is offensive.
the 3 killed aren't civilians, they are soldiers, and Palestinians killed are 555, the first air strikes killed Hamas militants, which were about 150, the rest are innocent people, families, women and children. |
