About my religion?

hey, i'm muslim, but i am being forced o go to a christian school since it is the closest to my house and it is the safest, considering that all the other schools around my area are public schools (i live in Texas now by the way and i'm 15). How can i still be a good muslim and not be able to 'do' my religion?
Additional Details
my school does not allow any other religions, i have to pretend like i'm christian and we pray christian prayers in every class. we even have a church day on thursdays, my friends always ask me why i never sing the songs or bow my head during the prayers, i can't just come out and tell them, i'll be kicked out of the school and be mocked. people at my school already used to call me a terrorist and they don't even know i'm muslim! i can't tell then that i am muslim, because then they will try to convert me. also, my parents never taught me how to "salah" before. they arn't too tight on our religion. But i'm diferent then them, i want to be an actual part of my religion, i actually want to try to be a good muslim, and my school isn't helping. i asked my mom if she can find a good muslim school, and i found one that is 30 minutes away from my house. but she said i can't go, because it's too far away and she said that there would be alot of extreemists there. also, i don't where the scarf.

ok, for some reason I agree with mmi on what he said, it first come from the heart.. I didn't read all the comments, but I believe that it's ok to say their prayers as long as you don't believe in trinity, in the words where they say jesus is the son of god.....
There will come a time where you find yourself in a position feeling that u can tell them.. no need to now, whenever you're ready, & it doesn't matter if u don't tell them... that is my opinion..
I'm muslim, I went to christian school too, I don't wear scarf either... but the difference is that my school didn't give us classes & prayers because 70% of the students were muslims... As for knowing more about islam, you can go online to www.islamonline.net

Obviously, your parents aren't religious, yet not even close to know details about religion, the website mentioned above is helpful, very helpful...
Yes, Mohamad was inspired the Koran, as Jesus with the bible & as Jews have the Torat... It is all mentioned in the Koran, there's no denying of any prophet, or Holy Book... The website explains it a lot better than me, they're professional....
& yes, salat is a big part of islam. Allah is the word God translated into arabic... Christians in lebanon, arab christians in general, use it in their prayers...
All heavenly religions believe in One God... christians, jews & muslims believe in one God... the rest is details that people differ between each other...

One God.. where else would they have brought religion.. it all comes from God, the Creator of all & everything, the Creator of the tiniest atom to the biggest mountains....

Honey, being part of a good muslim first comes by heart then by you accepting it.

To sing with cristains is not a bad thing, we in the end have one GOD.

Try reading the quran, if you dont understand then translate it, find and look up in the internet where you can find a local school that teaches islam, after school.

dont feel a stranger at your school, just blend in and relax.

Hope i helped you.

In the end we are all students of god. one heart and one soul

You have the rest of your life to practice your religion. meanwhile just concentrate on your studies for a few years and be a good person, which is the basic rule of any religion.

Well your parents are not really doing a good job are they?
Islam is very easy to follow not complicated at all.
Muhammad is Gods last prophet and messenger. Jesus is also one of Gods prophets but not his son and not God either, not to Muslims anyone, everyone is free to believe in there own faiths teachings.

There are 5 pillars to Islam

1. Declaration of faith stating your Shahada in Arabic " there is only one God and Muhammad is his last messenger"
2. Prayer. We pray 5 times a day.
3. Zatak which is giving in charity. If you do not have a lot of money even a smile is considered charity or even a plate of food for a poor neighbor.
4. Fasting in the month of Ramadan.
5. Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in your life time. But only if you are financially capable too.

Apart from that we dress and act modestly. We eat Halal meat and not any pork products or anything containing gelatin. Read your Quran and Sunnah. And that is it. Everything is very easy to fit into your daily life if you really want to do so.

As regards to going to Christian school. If you have to pretend to be a christian to go there maybe dicuss with your parents that you would rather go to public school and be yourself than to live a lie.
As for wearing a headscarf if you feel you are in danger wearing one it is permissable not too. But you should at least where it at home or in the privacy of your room eg when you feel safe too.
You could always contact your local mosque and ask for guidance on how to perform your prays if your parents have never shown you.
If you honestly want to live a more Islamic life then it is very easy sister. Just pick up your Quran and read. All the knowledge you require is there waiting for you.
Being a muslim does not equal terrorist. And those who have no brain and would call you such names are really just showing there ignorance.

Being a good Muslim doesn't required you to go to a muslim school or a christian school. Being a good muslim is all about you serving Allah's purpose on earth.
You don't have to be in a muslim country to be a muslim do you? So, you don't have to be in a muslim school to be a good muslim.
As long as you abide to the laws and instructions that Allah had given you to serve his purpose, and that you also abide to the law that is from the government, then you are a good muslim.
Do your prayers, ijtihad, and be reasonable, then you are a good muslim. Do unto others what you want them do unto you.

I went to a Christian school too and when they sang or prayed, I would sit out at the side of the room. You don't have to tell people ur a Muslim if u don't want to but u can talk to ur teacher and tell him/her that u don't wish to take part in singing or praying and u don't wish to go to church on Thursday and ask if u can sit out. Your parents should teach u about Islam as it is their duty to. You can also learn about Islam through books and there are many websites that can tell u more about Islam too. You should read Salah 5 times daily as it is a pillar of Islam. I always try my best to read 5 times every day. If u are still unsure u could try talking to an Imam at ur nearest mosque.
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was the final prophet and messenger of Allah (SWT). Jesus (called Isa in Islam) was also a prophet and messenger of Allah (SWT).
I hope this will help u.

To start the same God Christians pray to is the same one Muslims pray too. Years ago my mom sent me to an Adventist college, I don't profess any religion, but I do believe in God and in Jesus Christ, but the Adventist were to rare to me, my family is in majority Catholic, from day 1 I started to be instructed as Adventist and to assist to their little church every Tuesday, the assistance was obligated to this morning prays. What I decided to do was to respect theirs points of view and then they started to know me and they started to respect mines. So may be if you are a little bit open to them they will be open to you to, with respectfulness.

I am a Muslim as well and live in Texas and have been living here for about 6 years. i never attended schools, but i went to college here. a good Muslim can be a good Muslim anywhere. the people here in the states are understanding and respectful of others' religions, believes and point f views. There are of course the off ones, but these exist anywhere around the world. you can't generalize everyone behavior based on the bad ones. Be good and everyone will respect you for it. freedom of religions exists and everyone respects it.
You do this for allah (God) and not for anyone else, so do what you believe in while respecting others' privacy and believes and there shouldn't be any issues. if you feel concerned, talk to your teacher or admin about your concerns and they should be very helpful.

god bless.

Sorry to ask, but which sect do you belong to?

If you're Shiite, then your answer is Taqiya. You can read about this on http://www.al-islam.org/taqiyah/ and better understand the practice and its limits (to stay away from nifaq), and to know whether it is applicable in your case.

If you're Sunnite, I'm afraid there is no ضرورة (life threat) therefore you might want to go to a public school, or find an alternative.

The above is strictly a religious and not a personal opinion. My personal opinion is that you can be Muslim anywhere.

Good luck!

I'm not a Muslim, but I think I can help you, aziza.

First of all, I'd like you to think of the Shahadah which you speak. Do you really believe "La illah ilillah"?

Then, aziza, how can you even think that there is "another" God?

You call Him Allah and we call Him God, in English. Don't you know that Coptic Christians also pray to God, calling Him Allah?

Does not Islam preach the Greatness of Isa, al Massihe?

Are you not told that the True Path is to know the Injeel?

Then why do you feel that you are doing wrong?

Is it not said that you must be modest?

Hijab doesn't make you modest, it's your attitude that makes you modest.

Tell me aziza, who sits to Allahs right in Heaven, al Jannat?

Who shall return to defeat al Dajjal and redeem all the chaste?

Is that not Isa, al Massihe?

So, if you sing in praise of Allah in another language than Arabic, does it make it a sin, hara'am?

Is it wrong wrong for you to love Isa, al Massihe?

Aziza, do not be blinded by the foolishness of those who cannot see the Truth. You are a child of the Book as much as they are.

Allah will be happy as will be Isa, al Massihe, that you have learnt the good things.

Also, remember that it is your duty, as a True Believer, to honor your parents. If your mother says that the Muslim School is bad, she knows what she is doing. Many Muslims are being mislead, these days. So, honor her word.

Jazakallah, aziza.

Ma sala'amah.

Allah hafiz.

Shukran, Fady, I came here following your request, aziz. Cute pic, by the way.

I have heard of muslims putting their children in private catholic schools , because they didnt want to put them in public school. I cant say I understand it 100 percent. First your parents should explain to the principle or nuns what the situation is. He should request that you not have to go to prayer.
If not you will be severly conflicted.

Wise Heart
Your situation is not an easy one, but as long as you believe in the only one God who is the same (Allah), he will be with you. Just when you face any difficult situation, in your mind ask God to help you and you'll feel his help faster than you think.
I thought that it's better to send you these useful links to read and ask all questions you need to know about in English, Arabic, French or German.
I will be happy if you contact me to give you short answers according to my knowledge or help you to find any useful information about Islam.

hey beautiful... weell i dont know about the school thing but one of my friends once went to a christian school and she is muslim.... as some said you can do the prayers and dont believve in them... its just like being in the middle of nowhere and having to salah and there only being a church its not haram to salah in there....
but about learning your religion.. i think that is a great thing that you are doing that... allah is the same as god.... and mohamad... it depends what part of islam you are from some ppl think he is the last prophet that gave the message of islam and others thing that he something else but also a propht (i dont know what they think) if you would like you could email me and ill bemore then happy to help you learn anything you want.... and if i dont know something i will ask my parents or around somewhere else for you..
hope it all works out for you !!! =)

The Delicate Balance
That depends on how you define a "good" Muslim. If you are forced to pray in school to a god you don't belive in or something else that totally defies what you believe in, I think you have the right to take action and switch schools if possible. If it is just the pressure of being around so many christians with no muslims in sight, then just be yourself. If the people at your school are jerks to you because of your religion, theirs will look worse in the process. Be yourself! You are unique!

I went to a private catholic school (UK) when I was younger, as it was private they accepted other religions at the school but it was run by nuns & catholicism was largly promoted.
we did however have some muslims & hindus at the school & I still keep in touch with a muslim called Tahara, those people of other faiths had no problem keeping their faiths & practising their faiths as it is only a few hours out of the day at school, the rest of the time they were with their muslim families & friends.
you can practice your religion at home & still be a "good muslim"
hope this helps

I would think the only major tenant you would be prevented from doing is the prayer to Mecca and only 2 or 3 of the 5 would occur during school hours. I'm sure if you just pointed your head west and did it silently Allah would give you a pass and you wouldn't cause much of a disturbance in your classes. If you've got to wear the scarf I don't imagine that an American school would disallow this, although French schools don't so you never know. It will probably depend on the specific adminstrators and whether anybody files a complaint.

And if worst comes to worst just be a bad Muslim. Your not in Waziristan or Somalia. No one's going to stone you for breaking the rules.

I am a Christian and I went to a Christian school too. But if you are not willing or your parents are not willing to convert then don't and try to find any close and safe school with the same area code. If you are willing then Christianity doors are always open.

Its not by force its by your will.

I usually don't read long questions but i don't know why i insist to read yours, look 1st God is Allah but in just different languages Allah is Arabic god is English , and there is only one god that all of us are slaves for. He send to us religions according to the differences and the improvement in the humanity( man kind) and ages.

About your school , i used to have the same problem till my university now but you are in the states and I am in Egypt I'm not Muslim and most surrounded people are Muslims , look when i used to be in school i studied Islam it was the easiest subject to me , my religion is in my heart only the very dear friends i tell them what my religion is , because friendship means to say the truth.

So don't be upset okey, you don't have to be religious to be good, be good in treatment , just thank god every night about everything he gifted you , health clothes , food , education , others doesn't have a cup of water to drink. As long as you are doing well in school , having good grades , nothing else matters , you'll be lucky if you found a girl/boy who understands you and never call you a terrorist , because friends love us for who we are not for what we look like or something.

If i knew what was the prayer i would have written it to you but I'll ask a friend okey,&in post it to you by a comment as soon as i get it , Good luck.

Yikes! A religious school in Texas has got to suck. Many Christians in Texas are known for being religious zealots.

Try proposing (along with your parents) to the school that it teach a course on comparative religions. Or even offering to do a presentation to your class in order to explain to them what Muslims believe in and what their practices are. It would help clear up some misconceptions.

Remember, that at the end of the day, your G-d is the same as theirs and that you both revere Jesus on some level.

knowledge precedes speach and action. first, go to troid.org to learn. knowlegde of Allah will help you. in arabic, Allah means "The God". words like 'God', or 'The Lord' are terms you can use and still be Islamically correct. if you feel stuck then know that if you're forced to this school then the sin is upon your parents, then the teachers. you should know that Mary, mother of Jesus wore a veil (head scarf). this shows that the christians stray in this aspect of the religion. also Jesus never said to praise him. so they stray in this and other areas as well. If there is a mosque within walking distance then spend time there. If your parents don't let you go then tell them Mohammad said women CANNOT be forbidden from attending the mosque

If you pay close attention, you will realize that Christianity has almost all the same characters in their stories, and Mohammad was actually spreading the Word of God and he just added some of his own thoughts into it. There are so many things that are the same. Christians are supposed to try to be peaceful and loving, kind to everyone, if someone hurts us we are to turn the other cheek, etc. I think that if you pay attention you may find that you really fall in love with the message that you hear in your Christian School and I don't think that there should be a problem, since Mohammad was actually spreading the Word of God. He was suppose to be a prophet or something like that according to the Muslims.

Assallam mu alikom.
I am sad to learn about U attending prayer in School Chapel ( Church). As a Muslim, U should not be there in the 1st place. U should be in Islamic school. It is upto U to make your choice. To obey the order of Allah S.W.T. or to obey human. As a Muslims we put to obey Allah S.W.T. as the utmost important thing we need to do. Allah Almighty is the only God and there is no other God other than ALLAH S.W.T. and Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of Allah S.W.T. Prophet Isa a.s. is Not Jesus Christ and Prophet Isa a.s. did NOT died crucified. Jesus Christ was died crucified and he was not a Prophet. There is NO Jesus Christ in Alquran but there are many verses mentioning about Prophet Isa a.s. Ptophet Isa a.s. and Jesus Christ are 2 different person physically.
Wabillahi taufiq wal hidayat.
