Am I wrong to think that Egypt is a much better place to live than the US? |
I love the US, but then again I've only been out of the country once.. and that was to Canada. The things I hear about Egypt.. it just seems so great to me. No crime, better treatment, good men and a decent night life for entertainment (shisha lounges, shopping etc).
My friend is from Egypt.. but as much as I hear about it.. and then actually read about it.. it seems like a better idea. It may have it's flaws...but where would you rather live? If it were up to you to choose one? |

i can't believe your friend forgot to mention the flying camels. there is no crime because everyone stays indoors and is afraid of mummies!
lol.. i joke but i give you full credit for being open to other cultures and having a positive attitude! :)
please find out some facts first before you go.
go there and see it for your self. you might like it enough to visit only, or you might think it is the best place on earth. who knows!
@qu1ck80 : i hope you realize that there is quite a lot of desert in the usa.. death valley is a pretty harsh place.. it has death right in the name! lol |

my husband is Egyptian, i have been there twice(in Cairo), but i would not want to live there; specially raised my kids. It is nice country, everything is cheap but i can't live there. I'm originally from Ukraine, living in USA for 7 years, and Ukraine is better country than Egypt(i mean much-more cleaner, traffic). i am glad to be in USA,even it is not the best, but at least i have more rights here than in Egypt. I am just not used to that kind of life but many americans are living there so, might get used to. Good luck. |

If you are not of Arabic origin and you are not Muslim, then I would recommend that you stay in the US.
Egypt has many nice things but in reality it's not as nice as they tell you. Your friend has seen it with her/his eyes, through her/his own interests, and it's good that they like it so much.. This is a characteristic of many Egyptians who have such a strong patriotic feeling that you would wonder why they left their country in the first place? (they forgot to mention the bad economic situation maybe?) I come from another Arab country and I love it so much, despite all the negative things that one might find there, it's my country after all. But if you are an American, would you still look at Egypt with the same eyes?
I've been to Egypt many times and I have many Egyptian friends. For a Muslim, especially a convert, they would love the friendly atmosphere of the moderate religious people, they would love to hear the call to prayer 5 times a day, they would love the warmth of simple people who would invite you to eat and sleep in their home without even knowing your name, and the list goes on with more and more marvelous things of life there.
On the other hand, the hot weather, the way some of them look at every foreigner as a tourist and a fountain of money, the repressive regime, and another endless list of negative things. It all depends on which eyes you look at Egypt through.
Maybe you should visit Egypt, but stay there for a long time.. a year for example, and then decide whether you like it or not.
Best of luck
Peace/salaam. |

Actually I agree with u....I was thinking about living there to...I was planning to become an archaeologists and Egypt was my first choice to work there. But now I changed my career plans. I never went to Egypt and something about it makes me want to go there I guess, probably Egypt is so rich in its history that's why...well to me it is.I would probably want to live there since I hear all these great things about Egypt. |

I was born in Egypt but I managed to escape the country after experiencing hardships and persecution for not being a Muslim but a Christian. I now live in New Jersey to be honest with you it's better that you stay in the U.S people in Egypt are often in the worst conditions, women are treated as less than subordiantes, it has the worlds Highest Human Rights violations. And If your not Arab and arent Muslim just dont go. It's great to visit but dont live there. |

I heard Egypt is a beautiful place too. But alike any other societies, there are some downsides to it. Also, you may need to change your lifestyle. The qualities of lifestyle in Egypt may not be as good as in States. But, like any other countries, Egypt has its own unique way of life that may or may not be appealing to you personally. I would suggest you to travel to other places around the world, and see if you find the one that is perfect to your desire. |

i'm egyptian and i wouldnt leave egy for the world...its like a dream i would die for it...egypt has lots of flaws but just looking in the face of its poor kind smiling people makes the pain go away...i love egypt and all egyptians do thats a good sign egypt will change in a positive way...you know in the usa every one is living alone here people share everything laughter and cries and even food...you know you have to come see what happens when there's an accident..in usa all people mind their own business but here the cars stop and try to help people call the police and ambulence...we love each other you see that's what differs from egy to usa
thank you |

I am in America ! and I would rather be here! I was born here! I know many Egyptians here ! from work and they tell me stories about why they come here because they cant make enough money there!they now make enough money to send to their families to help out! and as for doctors !Mohammad told me if he did not come to America for his surgery!(he was hit by a car in Egypt and ruined his pelvic area) he would have died! he said the surgeons are bad! He was also operated on by a Jew! who saved his life ! people here in America complain about the Hospitals here but we have the best! I know there is good and bad in people all over the world ! But so help me God! I hope I can be one ! Peace! |

Darling
I lived in Egypt and the UK for a couple of monthes
So there is alot of difference
If you are looking for being Safe that will be in Egypt
If you are looking for better treatment, that will depend
Egyptians will treat u nice as they know that they will have alot of benefits from your side
e.g
1. more money $$
2. More beautiful then most Egyptian girls
3. different cluture and living (drinking ...bla bla bla)
so the above example will give u the idea that Egyptians are wonderful, but on the other hands not all of them are so, but if u have founded the right persons from them
then u will surely live in heaven,
From the crimes point of view; being in egypt in some places you can do whatever u want whenever u want as long as you respect there egyptians thinking and traditions, like for example not wearing very sexy clothes and walking in the streeet alone at 2 AM.
so lets discuss the bad points of egypt
It is not organized, everything is a mess
Job salaries are very low
Traffic is horrible
Weather is very hot in the summer
No Transportation, it is impossible for a person like to take a public transportation
So my concusion will be
If you have alot of money and don't need to work
If you have your own transporation and you don't care about traffic and people bad driving
If you don't care about pollution and hot weather in the summer
Then comon and come live in Egypt it is more then a great country to live in if you ignored what i have just told u |

I have never been to Egypt, but this is the perspective I have attained through reading, and associating. As well as my personal opinion.
There is no Ideal place to live, and Egypt has its pros and cons just like USA.In the area of family and togetherness, friendships and establishing relationships,EGYPT seems much better then USA.As USA has lost its human connection and people live in an isolated, self centered universe, without much family foundation.
On the flip side of that,if you are used to living in a free western country, dressing how you want, acting how you want and suddenly you are trying to adapt in a culture that still views foreigners as loose, and immoral you will probably have a very hard time adjusting and begin to miss life back home in the land of FREEDOM.Do some research about EGYPT before you move, and be sure to read about religious persecutions and intolerance's.There are also some incidences (although very rare)of terrorism and anti-American sentiments. So you have to be cautious, but the crime rate of EGYPT is listed as low. However you will not have the same quality of life as you get in USA sanitation for example is not the same standard as you are used to.Then again there are allot of people who adjust well to that, and around the answers section you will find some women who grew up in western countries, that found a home in EGYPT.It will totally depend on your adaptability, your willingness to put up with a few sacrifices, adjustments and ways of life.It will mean giving up a few things but gaining allot of other things...
There will be an initial culture shock, but that does not mean you couldn't adjust because many people can and do.The only way to know if its right for you is to go and see it.

You are wrong.
You have never been to Egypt, well I have and you are mis-informed and mis-lead.
Women in clubs are treated poorly.
As for crime, please I can't believe you believe that!
What part of Egypt is your friend from?
Is your friend male or female.
Please do yourself a favor and truly research Egypt before you move there. |

It's up to you to customise yourself to the place you live in. You can make it the best place in the world, and also You can make it the worst place in the world.
As for Egypt.. it's a place full of life, and warmth.. you can go out anytime 24 Hrs a day and still manage to find a place to have fun.
I will not bother to criticise the opinions of the morons talking about terrorists and rubbish like that, cz they're too ignorant to understand |
