According to some experts in International Law, the West Bank and Gaza are disputed territories. Before 1948 they were part of the British mandate of Palestine. The United Nations voted that those territories be part of a Palestinian state next to Israel. Both Israel and Palestine were to be born at the same time but the Palestinians and surrounding Arab countries attempted to destroy Israel at its birth. After the first Arab Israeli War in 1948, The West Bank was united with Jordan and Gaza became an Egyptian territory. This changed with the 6 Day War in 1967 when those territories came under Israeli control. The question now is will a Palestinian State, if founded in those territories, recognize Israel's right to exist and live peacefully with it.

B
they are supposed to be autonomous just like the kurds in northern iraq but the israelis don't allow them to be!

the whole country including what is called the Palestinian territories is occupied by Israel

Bosco
No. They are recognized by the UN as a legal entity and their passports are valid anywhere on earth. The isreali occupation has been repeatedly deemed illegal by the UN.

its as simple as that

it was one Palestine , the UK occupied it along with many countries in Asia and Africa , then decided to give it to the Zionists after they created their movement to establish a home for all the jews around the world in whats they call "their holy land"
ofcourse the UK had all the power and allowed the Zionists to enter Palestine in large numbers .
there was lots of killing and masacers against the Palestinians and drive them out and steal their land and homes .

read the answer of Spreedog for this Q. he teachs history .

No, under international law they aren't part of Israel. East Jerusalem isn't part of Israel either.

This was agreed by all 15 judges of the International Court of Justice in 2004 in an advisory opinion.

They are suppose to be self governed, but the Israeli government are tyrants and choose to genocide the Palestinian people whom they illegally annexed land from in order to fulfill their Zionist desires. America support of Israel is the only reason we do not have good relations with any of the surrounding nations. Our govt. is overrun with politicians who put the interests of Israel ahead of the interest of our nation due to their ethnic-nationalism.

naserq22
i wonder how to answer your question
if you are talking about the waters israel is controlling waters
if you talking about skies israel is controlling skies
if you talk about export and import israel is controlling what comes in and what goes out
if you talking about borders israel controlling borders
if you talk about fuel israel is controlling that
if you talk about medicine israel is controlling that
if you talk about palestinian parliament israel is controlling that by putting about 20 members in prisons to keep off majority in order parliament is in deep freeze
but if you want to talk about education or health this is to palestinians to work out
so actually the UN resolutions 194 242 338 are to be implied but once palestinians accept to live in exile

Maya
No. They are recognized by the UN and hold a non-voting seat. The P.A. is a government-in-waiting. Waiting for what? For the izzies to withdraw from their illegal occupation of the PT so it can declare independence. You cannot declare a de jure state until you exercise control over your claimed territory.

No, Israel is Israel and Palestine is Palestine.

They are not.

They are territories occupied by Israel. That means the territory does not belong to Israel and that it is not allowed to annex any part of it.

Galahad
They are not and they are illegally occupied according to a wide range of UN resolutions.

Evul Bunneh !
1947 - UN declared the establishment of 2 countries, side by side.
1948 - the palestinians, with the help of other arab countries, open war on Israel in order to destroy it and take its land, Israel wins, the west bank becomes part of jordan, and the gaza strip becomes part of Egypt.
1967 - the arab nations open war on israel again, Israel wins, and this time concurs the gaza strip, the west bank, Ramat HaGolan and Sinai desert.
1978 - Egypt gets Sinai desert back, peace agreement is singed by the nations.
1993 - PLO (the Palestinian liberation organization) gets full control over the gaza strip and the west bank (within Oslo Accords), Israel controls the borders.
1994 - peace between Israel and Jordan.
2000 - second intifada begins, terrorists from the gaza strip and west bank infiltrate to Israeli territory and commit terrorist acts.

so to sum it up Israel does not control this territories, the palestinians do, though Israel controls the border lines.

Under UN Security Council Resolution 242 from November 22, 1967 ( the basis of the 1991 Madrid Conference and the 1993 Declaration of Principles), the world community asked Israel to withdraw "from [some] territories" in order to achieve "secure and recognized boundaries". http://www.defensibleborders.org/db_rosenneb.pdf
No terminology required of Israel to give away "the territories" or "all the territories" captured in the 6-Day defensive War. Nevertheless, Israel transferred all of Sinai to Egypt and, later, transferred control of areas designated in the 1993 Oslo Accords.to the Palestinian Authority. (While the PA happily received the Israeli land, note that the PA has yet to meet its obligations under the signed agreements.) Thus, Israel has more than fulfilled its part, and, under international law, certainly owes no further concessions to any party.
If I understand your question, the below legal articles should help explain the issues. If you can define your terms (to which territories you refer, what is meant by "foreign nations", etc.), we may be better able to provide a relevant response.
Are you referring to disputed territories in the West Bank of the Jordan?
http://www.jcpa.org/jl/vp470.htm
http://www.jcpa.org/brief/brief2-16.htm
Or are you also asking about Gaza?

officially not really.. in the maps.. gaza and the west bank are not part of Israel.. they are palestinians or arab zones,... the arabs controlled the zone but Israel controls the bordeline...there is an idea for forming a palestinian state but there is not enough money for it and the palestinians depend of israel.,.in many things.. but politically palestinians are free of israel.. just there are problems between terrorists and israel army. I am sure many palestinians would like to live in Israel and Israel will include them as israelie citizens.. remeber the second language in israel is the arabic

Under international law, these territories are under no nation's sovereignty.

Once the Muslim hordes conquered the Arabian Peninsula, all that richness was ruined; the Muslims perpetrated massacres against the Jews and replaced them with masses of ignorant fellahin submitted to the new religion. The survivors had to escape and took refuge in the Holy Land, mainly in Jericho and Dera'a, on both shores of the Jordan.

The Arab caliphs (Umayyad, Abbasid and Fatimid) controlled the Holy Land until 1071 CE, when Jerusalem was captured by the Seldjuq Turks, and after that time, it was never again under Arab rule. During all that period, Arabs hardly established any permanent social structure of their own, but rather governed over the native non-Arab Christian and Jewish population. Any honest observer would notice that the Arabs ruled over the Holy Land three centuries less than they did over Spain!

In 1517 CE, Jerusalem and the whole Holy Land were conquered by the Ottoman Turks and remained under their rule during four centuries, until 1917 CE, when the British captured Jerusalem and established the "Mandate of Palestine." It was the end of the Ottoman Empire, that owned all the present-day Arab countries until then. Indeed, since the fall of the Abbasid caliphate in 945 CE, no Arab political entity existed in the Middle East for almost a millennium!

The Jewish people have lived in the land of Israel for about 3000 years, and only THEY have ever had a sovereign state there. Even under the years of Byzantine, Arab and Turkish rule, there was a continuous Jewish presence. There has been a Jewish majority in Jerusalem since the 1840s.

there's no easy answer.
gaza used to belong to egypt.
the west bank used to belong to jordan.
those countries lost those lands in the war of 67.
after the war, they said they didn't want that territory back.
but israel never wanted those territories, they want to trade them for peace like israel did with the sinai and egypt.

now, israel is totally out of gaza. there is not one jew in gaza, they have succeeded in their ethnic cleansing. the west bank is split into jewish and arab regions. it had to be split because there was too much terrorism by arabs on the jewish regions.
