Discouraging, i must say. Looks like only the victims of crime attended, as for those who are not yet victims believe that it won't happen to them. |

I think the organisation was done poorly. They needed to set it aside for a weekend when people arent really working. To also be honest, I like the idea but I just wonder what difference people marching will do. If anything many criminals might have joined in to pick pocket the marchers. Something more than marching needs to be done... but of course people are busy pointing fingers at each other whilst the criminal loots us and the government makes money out of the coverage from the puppet station of the march and still do nothing... |

I would say there was only 3000. I was there, I actually walked 2km to the Union buildings because I thought there would be traffic jams. What a disappointment. I feel sorry for the organisers, their intentions were honorable.
I'm not sure if it was marketing or logistics, but it seems people in Pretoria do not give a damn about crime. Its like someone on this forum said before, "everybody talks the talk, but they do not walk the walk". It seems people think the crime is going to somehow disappear. I've got news and its all BAD ! |

The people are defeated, they have lost the will to resist and voice their anger, a sad day.
South Africa is a nation living in despair, desperation and hopelessness.
Crime and the ANC have won. |

I think as much as most people wanted to be there they just could not go due to work. A sepcial day, especially public holiday or weekend should have been put aside for it. . . |

Bad day. A Tuesday?? Come on! It should have been this past weekend and the turn out would have been better. People had jobs to get to today.
Edit: Gene, i don't know about the radio but on SABC TV it had been advertised for the past 2 weeks. So a bit of marketing went out for this cause. |

That is very disappointing indeed......I think people are so disillusioned with our leaders not listening to the country crying about crime - why would this march make a difference.
And why would the leaders notice if they don't even seem to care when famous people like Lucky Dube are killed in hijiackings...... |

That is sad and terrible Heavy.......there must be a reason why only so few people pitched |

Maakiesakie how many people, for what ever reason, did or did not pitch. The message, by way of the publicity, and reaction, got through. |

its not that they don't care but if they have not been heard for so long people just give up, i mean even the president did not cancel his day to go to the march. |

The event was so poorly advertised that I only found out about it last night.
Organisers should have made more people aware of it. |

Well if my boss told me not to go, I won't go. Who can afford to lose their job. That is the problem! |

It is sad really because it is a major concern and problem in SA - i think people just don't believe what they do and feel makes a difference anymore |

I think it was just scheduled on a bad day, it should have been on a weekend. It is a pity it was so poorly attended, it would have made quite a statement if big businesses had bussed in their employees to march. The organisers should have made better arrangements and marketed it better.
At least those who attended are being proactive instead of just sitting around moaning about everything ... |

It's a big shame but many don't have the time. They are too busy trying to make a living, save on fuel, food and other essential things just to get by. |

People are finally getting the point that protesting and rallies do nothing for their causes. It never has and it never will. There are other more effective ways to get your point across.
Kinda like the anti-war rallies in the states. All that did was polarize people even more.... |

I agree with Redhead, most South Africans are now so totally disillusioned with the inept and corrupt ANC as well as their careless attitude to virtually all matters pertinent to average working class South Africans today that they wouldn't bother wasting their time attending a march and handing over a memorandum to a president who no doubt would dismiss it as rubbish or third force propaganda.
I also only heard of it this morning on 702 so I also agree that it was poorly organised and advertised.
I wouldn't have attended anyway, mass action is for Africans. |
