Canada is a multicultural country and my work requires a lot of interaction with people from different walks of life on a daily basis.
Some of our customers do not speak English well or not at all and it takes a lot of patience (and ability to understand body language!) to cater to their needs when you can't comprehend what they're trying to convey. I've also dealt with customers who are mute and deaf or blind and that was really challenging but rewarding afterwards!
I've met people with different beliefs than mine, I admit it can really get annoying when they insist that they're the chosen ones and those who do not follow their religion will be burned in hell. Keeping an open mind helps a lot.
What I hate most are people who uses the word "racist" against me only to get what they want. "You're just saying that because I'm black!" is the most ridiculous thing someone has ever said to me (he was requesting us to waive his service charge after he bounced his cheque, now what has got to do with him being black?!)
But yes, I do have tolerance, sensitivity and lots of patience. I've been in this type of work for over 11 years now. I guess overtime this is something I developed without me noticing it until now. |

I am quite a tolerant person to most of the categories you mentioned. We are all Gods children & all put on this earth for a purpose, regardless of our religion, culture, colour, size etc. What i cannot tolerate is rudeness & bad manners, these things cost nothing, if someone behaves in this way to me i ignore them,
Oh & thumbs down on good answers! LOL |

I am a white American and married to a darker skinned Moroccan man. When we met I was Christian and he is Muslim and that didn't bother me. ( I am now Muslim) I also have all religions in my family, from Jewish to Christian to Pagan. I don't care much about economic differences because money does not define a person. As far as physical abilities, I work in a doctor's office so tolerance, patience and acceptance are a MUST. |

I am. Until that individual or group of individuals push their beliefs on me or step across the line of infringing on my and others rights. Whether it be based on race, religion, social class or physical appearance. That situation is met with equal or greater resistance. An example is radical muslim suicide bombers killing innocent people of all backgrounds. The groups they represent should be delt with in the same manner.
In answer to your edit: Remember Hurricane Katrina? I opened my farm in NC USA to help folks that lost everything. We fed them, got them clothing and the necessities, rented trailers (6) for the families to live in. We got medical attention for the children that needed. After 5 months all but 2 groups moved on. The 2 that were left made it obvious they were milking us.
So, I and my family were very different from them. It made no matter to me. I saw them as people needing help. Rest assured, when my good will was abused they were gone. Out on the street with what they showed up with. NOTHING. So did I show tolerance? Yes. Tolerance does not mean letting one group walk all over another one. Do I hold and malice towards Katrina refugees? No. However I do towards the two families that stupidly mistook our kindness for weakness. |

I am tolerant of different religions, races, colors but not physical disabilities.
Just kidding. I like to think I am tolerant in all areas. But I guess I can't deny that I am not tolerant of idiots, hate mongers, and especially those who refuse to educate themselves when they have the means. |

I just accept people as people. I don't really think about their colour or race.
Except if they don't speak English or Spanish then I may have problems understanding a conversation. Also Arabic, like when people put questions in Arabic on this page.
Then I feel a bit ,can I say almost angry or insulted that they are being discriminating by only wanting Arabic speaking people to answer.
That is not so cool in this day and age.
Just what I think, that's all! |

I believe I'm tolerant towards most people about many things, firstly because i am very openminded. I understand that not everybody has been made the same, brought up the same, or lived the same. Secondly, I am able to seperate my personal beliefs or perceptions from the issue at hand - whether it be religious, cultural, to do with ability/disability or something as simple as taste in food or music - by doing that, I am able to be unbiased in my views and opinions. I do not refrain from speaking my mind but I also take into consideration what I am saying if there's a chance that i'll needlessly offend or bring a person down. Everyone is entitled to some dignity and respect, which nowadays nobody is willing to give yet they're expecting to recieve just that. It really frustrates me how many people will complain about something such as a person or certain race hating them yet they begin hating right back - can't anybody see the irony?
So to sum it up, each individual can only see the world through their eyes, if you can't be tolerant of others than it's as good as living your life with your eyes wide shut. |

Ok listen to this, I work in doha, so i see lots of mixed nationalities in here, take for example my job
me = Lebanese
my boss = Pakistani
civil engineer = Egyptian
mechanical engineer = Indian
drafts man = nepaly
office boy = nepaly as well LOL
anyways, yesterday was Pakistan's independence day, so we all sat together and ate in one huge meeting room. Now explain this!!
Another thing, im a Muslim and had a boyfriend who was not Muslim, so explain this also..
It's not about tolerance or sensitivity, its about the person, how the person is raised and his/her mentality.
As for me i believe we are all humans no matter what race or religion we are. In the end, when we die, we will all be buried the same way, DOWN UNDER!!! no significance there!! |

i am very sensitive towards people with physical disabilities, tolerant...well i wasn't born tolerant, i taught myself how to become, so you can say i am tolerant but patriotic, ya3ni, masr fo2 kol shei'...color, race, social statues and education mean nothing, some have this inbuilt wit and natural intelligence that i enjoy very much, i haven't mingled with asians as much as i would have liked, so there seems to be a certain gap between me and them, i do not know them, as what i've done for those who are different...i do not know, i listen, try to understand, communicate, give them space, give money or jobs for the needy when i can and it depends on my financial state, to tell you the truth on the whole, like what i've really done...i think not much, nothing significant, you've made me start thinking |

i live in malaysia..where different races n religions exist together in harmony..Although it's a Muslim country, but different people with different races n religions mix together freely..We communicate with each other, visit each other during festivals..In short, we care about each other :)
for me, that's tolerance and sensitivity.. When I was small, i was educated on the sensitivity of each other races and religions, like Indian can't eat beef and muslim cant eat pork.
physical abilities? n different education level people? I consider mixing well though..
in short, it depends on how ur brought up n how well you respect each other :) |

ohh well you know me ismaily, nope, not me, I'm not tolerant not even one little bit.
lets see now, i am a white Christian, one of my best friends is an Egyptian Muslim, i also have friends who span across the world in terms of race religion and colour.
my best friend female friend is only about 1m 65cm, but my husband is 2 meters and in my job i regularly teach children with disabilities. but i also often disagree with my friends about all sorts of things, i get mad with them sometimes if they cant see things my way, but i still love them. what ever and where ever, cos people are the same the world over, they just have some different ideas about religion and diet and culture. but they are still the same underneath when you are talking about individuals. its only when you are looking at people en mass that generalities start. |

I have been surrounded by different kind of people. I have a bachelor degree and soon a master degree, but having this for me doesn't make me different from other people.
I have taught at a public school here in my country, a school where only very poor children attend. Believe me, it was for me one of the most wonderful experiences I had in my life.
I have also friends that are very rich.
I have met people from a lot of countries, since I was working at a company that had business with people from all the world. I met people from all America, Asia, Africa, Europe, New Zealand and till now they are my friends.
I don't mind if my people are white, black, yellow, green, blue, orange, pink, red, purple, gray or any other. I also don't care if they have a disability. Or if they are tall or short, or if they are fat, average, or slim. Or if they have a high lever of education or no education!
Also with religion, I have met people from different religions and I have good friends that are Christians as me, Muslims, Jewish and others.
The most important is what people have inside: their values, their feelings, their thoughts, their opinions.
My future husband (inshaallah) is Muslim, we live in differente countries (for the moment), we have different cultures and we are happy and do not have problem. |
