I have done that more than once in my 69 years on earth. The first time was early in my 20's.. the second time was when I was 43 and found that my cancer surgery had been successful and I was cancer free and the last time was about 10 years ago when my wife died... so about every 20 years I have taken a detour at the crossroad.

the last time was almost four years ago. i always had everything planned ahead and then something happened that made everything i did so far completely meaningless. but something in me still did not wanted to give up.
i really do not like to remember that time, because it was a very painful period of my life.
but then again, if i did not went through all that i have, i would not be the same person as i am now. i needed a shock to wake me up, and to make me live my life again, without having my life planned years ahead.

When I was 26. I had gone straight from school on to University and then straight into work in a big city for a few years so I took a year out and moved overseas to get new experiences and see what I really wanted out of life. I had no ties and thought it was 'now or never'.

Like other answers here i know i will end up making this sort of decision again with marriage, children ect in the future isa.
But i am making this decision right now with moving to egypt! that will totally change everything in my life,and i am so welcoming a change for myself! :)
