Mimi- ميمي - מימי

Can a Palestinian and an Israeli be friends?

I found this video following Hoplesse's great post. I think it is a nice story.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfvbi0rFQfw

I am feeling so bad these days and I know I am being a bit harsh and sometimes rude in my responses but soon I will get better just like Mimi a few weeks ago.

Peace to you all

and happy Eid to Muslims

Sweet29,
how were the Palestinians and the Israelis fighting before the old testament if there were no Palestinians at that time and if the Israelis only came in 1948 after the establishment of the state of Israel?
I guess you mean Muslims and Jews but there were no muslims before the old testament. I am sorry, I don't understand your answer.

Thank you, Mimi, for the great post and the great link; that short film made me cry.... My son is 18, and if we were still living in Israel, he would have been drafted into the IDF; I am so glad we do not live there, and I can relate so well to these two nice boys who could have been my sons too....
To make this long story short, the answer is yes.
I think we can all be friends.
So let's get to know each other and figure out a way out, OK???
Eid Mubarak to you and yours!!!!:)
EDIT:
Ultra, would you please try be a little nicer????????
Grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Go in Peace...

Actually, yes. While I think that I have been been offended by every single Palestinian on this site, in real life I have many Palestinian and Lebanese friends. We're all rational, so we get along.

PLISHTIM - sea dwellers
Pleshet is the Hebrew name for what might otherwise be called the "land of the Philistines" according to the Hebrew Bible (see Book of Genesis 21:32, Exodus 13:17, 1 Samuel 27:1 ).

The term refers to the coastal region that stretches roughly from Gaza in the South to Ashdod in the North. The five main cities of the Philistines during the time of the Kings of Israel were Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gat.

You know as in Samson and Delila

They have nothing to do with today's Palestinians

Mimi
I'm not confusing that why i said sea dwellers, the name came from them

PLISHTIM=PALESTINIANS

HopelessZ00
yes I saw this video many times from the youth camp in Canada last year I think, what a wonderful thing when people really meet each other instead of just go by what they hear of each other without ever meeting an Israeli or Palestinian in person. Mimi its ok to get upset and hurt or angry sometimes, we all do. In this section it is hard for one to stay positive with so much negativity going around. From many people myself included. Nice post thank you and eid Mubarak to all. Peace!

I thought rather than ask a question for comments here in this section, since this appears to be the topic..I wanted to share an article and seek comments from ALL who seek peace for Israel and a state of Palestine to live side by side IN PEACE.

This article makes many good points in my view..that Israel shouldn't still have to be defending the very existence of a Jewish homeland in Israel.

This is an EXCERPT that I think has some of the most important points I would like to highlight:

"If anyone was to say "there are no Palestinian people and they do not deserve a state," Shulamit Aloni, Ha'aretz newspaper, Yossi Beilin and Peace Now would be incensed. How could anyone say such a thing? Yet they are perfectly willing to brush off Erekat's implied pronouncement that there is no Jewish people, only a Jewish religion. If we sign an agreement with the Arabs of Palestine that does not assert the Jewish right of self determination, we would be signing away all our rights. From their point of view. we woud be admitting that they, and not we, have the right to sovereignty over the entire land between the river and the sea.

To Zionists, peace means acceptance of Israel as the state of the Jewish people and acceptance of the right of the Jewish people to self determination. Therefore it is not an "unreasonable" demand to insist on this point. It is tautological. Without that recognition, "peace" is worse than meaningless, it is an admission that we lost the war, and it is the end of Zionism.

Israel has already recognized the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people as it accepted the roadmap. The reciprocal announcement would be recognition of Israel as the state of the Jewish people. It is not a negotiating point for the future, but one that should have been cleared up in the past"

Please keep peaceful. Shalom, Salaam
Happy Eid

The short answer to the question here: yes, it is possible :)

BRNO
of course if religion and race doesn't mean a thing to the two of them and if they agree not to speak of race religion and if they don`t discus any of it.If they do it will cause rubsions between them

:)
Thanks for the link- It made me cry too...
I think seeing each other as humans, anyone can get along but governments and big corporation have a vested interest in keeping people divided; from the USA's "war on terror" to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to the sunni-Shia problems and many more...

We, the people, need to make others aware and stand up to Governments.

We can't be peacemakers as long as AIPAC is financing all our congressmen's (in the US) extra curricular activities

This recent Bush visit to Annapoilis was a joke! He says he was trying to help Palestine...but was really to gain Arab support for war against Iran and maybe Syria next His logic now is, the arabs will think he is great guy for supporting Palestine and agree that Iran is a threat!

How are people so quick to dismiss 100s of thousands of iraqi civilians killed because someone said it was for their benefit?

The problem is...toooooooo many people fall for what is fed to them by government through controlled media.

Maybe if we had a 2hour "infomercial" running everyday, we could inform people of the truth...I don't know :(

This project is also excellent and gives some hope that the next generation may open their eyes a little wider...http://www.handinhand12.org/

Thanks for letting me ramble;)

Peace, Salam, Shalom and a most wonderful Eid to all

paperback_writer
Mimi thank you so much for sharing this with us. It actually brought tears to my eyes.

This section has become so horrible really, and both Jews and Muslims are getting upset as we are all being insulted on a daily basis.

I think we should all try to follow your example with this post, and we should all also try our best to focus on positive stories, where possible. I know it will be hard because we are all so angry and so frustrated. But I hope we can all try.

I wish a happy Eid to all the Muslim people, and I hope all my fellow Jews had a lovely Chanukah. And a Merry Xmas to all our Christmas friends as well of course :)

Shalom to all.

EDIT FIVETOZE

sorry, but you display a striking lack of factual knowledge. There were always Jews living in what is now Israel; the term 'Palestinians' referred to Jews, Arabs, Christians, to them all.

rogerglyn
Of course you can be Friends.

Just don't let a Priest know.

No they cannot. Just like the palestinian people are told to hate jews since their what? 2 days old? Israeli children are exposed to this hatred and begin to hate back

not while the other draws breathe.

actually yes, if the american subsidised israeli forces packed up and moved out.

England moved into northern ireland and introduced protestants... into a WHOLLY catholic country, and look what happened there... 300 years of war...

if america were to remove the israelis OUT and put them in the american midwest, where its so vast no one would notice, it´d be problems over...

america created the state of israel after ww2, it should be called to explain itself and offer reparations...
