this question so made me smile. I can think of only one thing I really wanted as a child but didn't get until I bought it for myself. Red Patent Leather shoes.

I am of course omitting the impractical stuff, like the pony (inner city living), the jet pack and spaceship!

But once I was earning, one of the first things I bought myself was red patent leather shoes. I am still such a sucker for red patent leather and have expanded my collection to include the bag & purse. ;-)

I can only really name you one thing, i had a really happy childhood, i cant remember ever really wanting for anything, but i wasnt spoilt at all, just happy.
That one thing was to prove an important thing in my life as well, because without this need i would not have met my husband, many years later.
Ok, here it is = i wanted to go & see the Tutankhamen exhibition when it came to London back in the 1972. I was a very young girl then & so addicted to anything about Egyptian history, i was desperate to go see Tut, but my Dad (who is the best dad in the world), unfortunately worked in London & had to commute about 30 miles each day. Then there were the long cues, averaging about 4 & a half hours just to get in. So my dad said no, & kept saying no, & i was too young to go on my own. I was heartbroken.
As i grew up, i continued to mourn this loss, until finally in 1997 i made the trip to Egypt, did a cruise, &&& got to full fill my long felt wish. I saw Tut, laid out where he always should be, in his tomb, but thats not all, i saw all his glorious treasures in the Cairo museum (again where they should be), the whole experience made me weep with joy.
When i returned home, i thanked my dad, as a child i would have loved it, but as an adult = i fell IN love with the country, the people, & later even went on to fall in love with one very special Egyptian, my hubby.
Just goes to show what fate can do.

when i grew up, i discovered that i hated going up or down the stairs .
this explained to me the desire i had when i was a child .
now
i like walking long distances , but not going up a flight of stairs .
