Yes, I did notice that.
I'm not so sure why you have received so much flak, I thought this and your other question were quite relevant!
As you head towards the equator from either North or South the same is true from your statement.
It's also true that as you head North from the equator complexions become lighter. Although this is mostly to do with the fact that Northern African populations have a longer history of interactions with Europeans.
And the same is also true in Europe. The complexions in the South of Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece etc. are very similar with the complexions of North Africa, and as one proceeds further North the complexions become lighter again. |

Pay attention: all skins colors are shades of colors, not just South African blacks. Orientals have shades of colors, Hispanics have shades of colors, Whites have shades of color, etc. Every group has shades of colors -- we were not all spray painted from one can. |

Who cares.... people are people no matter what skin color. |

Wow! And here I am sitting in LA wondering what the difference is when actually, the answer is so simple as you,ve explained! LOL!
Please... don't be an idiot! What planet are you from? |

I am South African and this is some of the most arrant rubbish I have ever read about South Africans.
Your generalisations are a load of total BS!
Most of the answers would be really funny if they were not so offensive! |

I am South African. This statement is SOMEWHAT true. Only Xhosa people get the genes from the Khoisan. As a whole, out of all the tribes in South Africa, Xhosa's are the lightest, and this is because of 2 reasons, we have Khoisan heritage, and we were with white people the most, and had some mixing. I am not so sure about the height thing though, never heard of that. I am quite tall (5'5 and a half) and I am very light, with brown eyes, and my hair isn't black, its a very light brown, with like blond strikes (no, i have NEVER dyed it and/or highlighted it) and yea, I am black! Both my parents are. So, maybe this is little fact he told us is true.
P.S all these people who always say that Africans are coal dark, it's NOT TRUE! |

People act like anyone with black skin is the same race. A Nigerian is not the same race as a Kenyan, just like a German is not the same race as Japanese just because both have White skin.
It's funny when you see American blacks with Kenyan or Arabic names yet there family origin is in West Africa |

Okay.
I think someone should drop the black at some stage. I mean look at me (although a tad bit mixed)...
a lot of people think I'm coloured, others say its because of the sour porridge we Tswana's eat that I'm so light...lol!
You should hear the questions i used to get asked by guys in the townships hitting on me.
They'd be like: "Do you glow in the dark?"
"Can I pinch you to see what colour you'll turn?"
Then stuff like: "Do you realize you were almost Albino?"
Oi! The pains of being a light coloured black...eish.
To a degree I hear you... even my own race tend to ask me what I am...lol! |

Daykes,
It's not a colour issue, we all look different. No matter is you are black, white, pink or green. It's do do with genetics. |
|

People who are "colourblind' will not notice any difference.
Have you made a study about the complexion and shorter fellow South Africans. Where can we read up about it to confirm your statement or asumption.
Will make interesting reading matter for whoever cares. |

Although most people showed irritation with your question……..I fully understand your point of departure and believe this is a legitimate question……..however maybe you should have included the reverse of it here "...and did u guys know that south african white people look different?"…….
It’s a FACT that many (NOT ALL) White people will tell you that we look alike…..and many Black people will tell you the same about Whites……..it’s happening right here in South Africa, and other countries………..I don’t think this has anything to do with racial prejudice, but some unexplained thing in human beings….a similar question was asked in this forum by a White person., see here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070717230907AAmsh1b………
Maybe this thinking (or how we tend to see people) is the reason why harmonious interactions between individuals and between groups of people are in most cases difficult to achieve. I’m not sure whether one should be born with or acquire the ability to recognize individuals, distinguish them from each other, and treat each individual appropriately………
Quote: “If one is unable to distinguish members of a particular group from each other, then it is difficult to treat each person with the individuality that he or she deserves. Failing to treat a person as a unique individual is often seen as a central characteristic of stereotyping and prejudice”…...I however believe that the last part of the statement is open for discussion, as personally I don’t believe it to be so….. |

On the planet you live does everyone look the same? Just curious because here on earth we humans come in all different shapes, colours and heights. South Africa for example is populated by many different people not just Khoisan. |
