Do Jewish Arabs call God, "Allah"?

Show all answers

grammadebbie50
There is NO such thing as Jewish Arabs.
There are Israeli Muslims, Arab Israelis, (these are who I think you mean and yes they use the term Allah)
Because they are Muslims.

Jewish Israelis, Christian Israelis and so on.
Israel is a democratic state offering freedom of religion.

Sephardim Jews are familiar with the expression "Insha Allah" meaning "G-d willing" and it is part of our
Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) Language...
We are not Arabs but we share a lot in common with them.

Yes, it is the Arabic word for G-d. Nothing wrong with that.

Donna
There are a lot of Jews in Yemen (an Arab country). They call him Allah. In fact, Arab christians call Him Allah too.
People don't realize, "Allah" is only the Arabic name for "God". It's a language thing, not a muslim thing.

And so do the Christians Arabs too.

yes,
for those that dont know...Arab only means those group whose primary language is arabic. Not necessarily muslim, so there are arabic speaking jews. In arabic God is called Allah. The same with Christian arabs.. They refer to God as Allah also... So dont think or associate all arabs as muslims.. In fact arabs only make up a small percentage of muslims.. The largest muslim community is in Indonesia.. and they dont speak arabic as their first language.. ...

Yes they do, it just means G-d in Arabic. And these Christians going around saying Allah is the moon god are commiting the worse sin by insulting the name of G-d.

Allah (Arabic: الله, Allāh) is the standard Arabic word for "God". The term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God. Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, use the word "Allah" to mean "God". The Muslim and Christian Arabs of today have no other word for 'God' than 'Allah'. In pre-Islamic Arabia, Allah was used by pagan Meccans as a reference to the creator-god, possibly the supreme deity.

in english you say "Ball" for this thing we play with durind a soccer game...in Arabic the word is "Tabeh" for the same thing.....also the same thing for "God" and "Allah" if you call God Allah this doesn't mean that you are not christian or Jewish, and it doesn't mean that you are an arab...it's just a name

Jewish Arabs? Arabs from Israel? Jews from Iran?

Who are Jewish Arabs?

A while ago, the popular weblog 'Head Heeb' featured a discussion about the identity of Jews from Arab countries which I am reproducing below. Some confusion arises, in my view, from the fact that each community was defined in Ottoman times along religious lines: there were no Arabs then - only Jews, Christians and Muslims. (Besides, before Arab states were set up, 'Arab' was often a byword for 'Bedouin').

To talk of 'Jewish Arabs' is to assume that the Middle East was ethnically homogenous when in fact it was made up of a patchwork of different ethno-religious groups many of whom spoke Arabic or were Arabic in culture, but were not Arab. A more correct term would would be ' pre-Arab' Jews, as the Jews, like Christian groups, were indigenous to the region long before the 7th century Arab-Muslim invasion.

Traditional Jews pray in Hebrew, and in that context, we use the Hebrew name for God, as well as for everything else. However, when speaking their vernacular, they'll use the whatever name for the Creator is used in that language, assuming it doesn't have any idolatrous or polytheistic connotations. Interestingly enough, the Spanish word for God is "Dios," but the Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) word is "Dio," for precisely that reason.

Just as an aside, a lot of Jews from Arab countries might take offense to being called "Jewish Arabs," even if the term is accurate from an anthropological standpoint. And a lot of non-Jewish Arabs would no doubt be equally offended. Jews are Jews and Arabs are Arabs, and never the twain shall meet. The common terms used for Jews from Middle Eastern countries are "Sephardi" ("Spanish," if they are of Spanish descent, like most of the Jews of Morocco and Turkey, for example) or "Mizrahi" ("Eastern"), like Jews of the Levant, Iraq and Iran.

So, your asking if Mizrahi Jews call God "Allah," is like asking if English-speaking Jews call God "God." You probably didn't feel the need to ask, because the answer is obvious to you. So, I can tell you from experience (I lived in Istanbul for a year, and spent a lot of time among the Jews there - Turks aren't Arabs, but Turkey is overwhelmingly Muslim, so the same concept applies) that in countries where "Allah" is the commonly-used name for God, the Jews there will say Allah the same way English-speaking Jews say God. Note that once a Middle Eastern Jew is no longer speaking a language where "Allah" is the name for God (like Turkish or Arabic), they'll probably stop using that name, as it has no particular religious significance for Jews. It's just the name some people use for God.

I hope you find this information helpful.

The name is just an base point it is what is taught about him that matters, I personally, as a Christian, do not see God and Allah as the same entity. What Allah said is very different than what God said to the Jew and the Christian.
Allah is just too hateful and mean to be God, too much humanity in his teachings, and too many changes to ancient scrolls.
To be accurate.
