Do You Agree With These Thoughts on Peace with Israel?

I work as a paramedic with the Israeli branch of the Red Cross. I am proud to say that medicine is still one part of my country's society that is not politicized. I, a Jewish medic, work with Christian and Muslim medics to save lives of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Being a medic, I have a profound appreciation for all life and am trained to (instinctively) save lives, not to play God and treat Jews and non-Jews differently based on political beliefs and such. I know that Israel now recieves children from Lebanon, Iraq and other 'enemy states' as part of the 'Save a Child's Heart' program.

Whereas groups like Hezbollah seem to find it acceptable to play the role of God and to kill people who are Israeli or not Shia, Lebanese, etc, I am of the belief that the only person/thing that should result in a person's death is G-d/nature.

To cut to the chase, do you think that joint medical care/research programs could eventually serve as the basis for peace between Israel and Arab countries

Additional question: do you want peace with Israel? Why/why not?

Davay tries to confuse the issue by accusing Israel of occupation. That is untrue. (We treat this at the end of the answer to the asker.)

The asker suggests medical cooperation. Perhaps he has forgotten that the Arabs use their ambulances as cover for transferring terrorists and other fighters, as well as weapons and ammunition.

You are just not talking the same language as they are.
---------

Regarding "occupation": Arab violence against Jews has been going on long before there was an occupation, long before there was a refugee problem--indeed, long before there was a political Zionist movement. Need I present more painful examples? Perhaps even further back, where I hope everyone will agree that the Zionist movement did not yet come into being:

In the centuries after Muhammad there have been periods when the Jews were able to live in relative peace under Arabs, but their position was never secure. They were generally viewed with contempt by their Arab neighbors, and their survival was always predicated on their abject subordination and degradation to them. Mass murders of Jewish "protected people" started in Morocco as early as the eighth century, where Idris I wiped out whole communities.

A century later Baghdad's Caliph al-Mutawakkil designated a yellow badge for Jews (setting a precedent that would be followed centuries later in Nazi Germany), and synagogues were destroyed throughout Mesopotamia in 854-859. In Tripolitania, Jews were considered the property of their Arab masters, who would bequeath the Jews to their heirs upon death. In the 12th century, after anti-Jewish riots, the contemporaries commented that their population had 'greatly declined.' ( Middle East Digest, September 1999)

As to how to solve the problem, the only way would be for Israel to defeat the Arabs overwhelmingly, and then dictate the terms for peace. Otherwise, the Arabs will never stop trying to destroy Israel.

angieaje
I definitely think that even if it doesn't serve as the base for peace, it is a positive way to get there and I am very proud of you, for putting aside all the issue as and strongly believing in peace. That is the type of humans we have to be, so please dont give up on your ideals and hard work. God Bless you and your team

greid13
No - becuase the hatred stems from religion whereas your solution is logical, those two forms of thinking are rarely on the same page.

Smutty
Of course I agree. It saddens me to see that there are still people who are not convinced yet that accepting the other party as is, is the shortest path relieve the people on both sides.

I strongly believe that in order to accomplish peace, we must put behind us all of the mistakes that were committed previously. Going back in history will not do any good. There must be a "practical solution".

Mistakes of all kinds from all parties have been committed. Forgetting the past may seem hard, but its the least costly method.

I don't believe that God needs representatives and I am against "divine laws" of all sorts. Both sides sometimes cling to divine laws, and that should not be the case.

I believe both Israel and Arabs will benefit from joint programs of whatever nature.

That's a very nice Question

Thank You.

starfish
Yes I think that is a brilliant goal to work towards. Some people may argue and generalize on both sides of the fence but we can't let those dictate how the rest of us wish to live our lives. Instead of spending money to kill people, lets work to preserve and save lives.

Great question! My thoughts exactly.

Kalooka
What you do is very human, you do a great job and i m sure there is some human beings like you on the other side.
I think your idea of bringing peace can't go beyond a certain limit of mutual understanding of the fact that good people exist everywhere, even amongst your enemies.
The conflict between nations is far more complicated to be solved like this, unfortunately.

maro h
why not

Relax Guy
I would hope so. But the people of the middle east need to vote in people who will help work towards peace. Not Hamas or Hezbollah, voting for them is like voting for the K.K.K in American, nothing good can come out of it.

G Bone
I want peace because we are close to each other and peace is always the RIGHT answer and killing and war won't bring us no good. I say YES for the peace between us.

Kate
I think people can coexist inspite of what their religion is and medical research is a great example (same as here in Lebanon the Lebanese Red Cross has volunteers from all religious beliefs and they serve everyone equally)

About peace with Israel...mmmm...peace is a hard thing to achieve between Lebanon and Israel because both countries don't really have it in their hearts each one wants more than the other...what will work though is a resolution with rules that each party will agree on in order to live peacefully along side each other without necessarily getting along and being friends.

We have to respect each other's boundaries and respect their beliefs and things will work out fine in the end, I'm sure.

Yonah Metz
The Arab apologists here ignore your question to state their distortions. They should be corrected.

The war between Israel and the Hisb'Allah in Lebanon in the summer of 2006 started by the murder of Israeli soldiers and kidnapping of other soldiers by Hisb'Allah, which took place in sovereign Israel territory.

Israel foolishly pulled out of Lebanon on the assumption that the Hisb'Allah terrorists would not be permitted to re-arm and to return to their positions in southern Lebanon. Unfortunately, the United Nations once again double-crossed Israel and did not enforce UN Resolution 1701, which would have kept the terrorists where they were at the time of the cease fire. Meanwhile, arms continue to flow from Iran via Syria to the Hisb'Allah, unchecked by the Lebanese army and by UNIFIL, in violation of the UN resolution.

Israel will have to fight another war there sometime soon to protect the civilians living in northern Israel.

First at all....one cant mess the things..
Your job is a very humanitary one.....it is excellent what you are doing and it is very valuable thing... Congratulations !!!!
I want peace....but not only with Israel.....I want peace all over the world because I'm a pacifist.
But to be a pacifist doesnt mean to be silly. Now.... because of your question, we entered in the political issue......so.you asked and I reply.
I know that Israel has the right to defend ITS territory....but has not the right to invade other's countries territories. That is not about religions, that is only about land. With the excuse of terrorism, Israel has taken almost all the land from palestine people....with the excuse of terrorism Israel kept occupied part of south of Lebanon many years. Why instead of to occupy that lands, didnt care the borders and kept them as they were?? I know that you are thinking that with Hezbollah in the border, no other thing could be done. That is not like that..I dont like and I dont support Hezbollah, but I dont like what Israel is making to get lands either. Israel first hurted or killed kids and parents, and now is receiving them . I dont understand that. Israel killed more than 1300 innocent persons with the excuse of 2 soldiers. Are 2 israelian soldiers better than 1300 innocent victims? Are 2 israelian soldiers better than the economy of a country that was expecting 1.600.000 tourists in the summer? Are 2 israelian soldiers better than 4 millions of lebanese that saw how Israel destroyed their country??? I dont think so !!!
Unluckily, Lebanon is in the middle of all that, and everyone wants to rule it because the strategic place it has as door to middle East.
Hezbollah is not innocent.......but Israel isnt either. Till no ones respect each others......peace wont be in Middle East.
Now, as you said, to cut with the chase, I say that joint medical research programs can help and can be a beginning, but first have to change the rulers mentalities and care more about the poor pple living in the borders.

By the way....I dont live in Lebanon, and i'm not palestine

Peace for Lebanon!!

In a few words Dream on son

Farm bred, grain fed, all natura
First, let me say thank you for your devotion and service. And yes, joint programs can and will help with the situation between Israel and Arab countries. And yes, I pray for the peace of Israel. That said, I must say that I do not think that a lasting peace will come to the region until the Prince of Peace sets it up. Face it, the conflict is not about sovereignty or land, but about the fact that Israel are God's chosen people, and Satan hates them for it and will do anything in his power to try and destroy the nation of Israel. The whole reason that Israel is having to fight for their lives is because they are the apple of God's eye and many years ago, they ran after other gods instead of worshipping the one true God. Even so, God has not abandoned Israel, and has restored them to the land promised to them. He will continue to bless your land even through the hardships you are facing. Know that many in the US stand with you and pray for your situation everyday. Shalom and God Bless.

Milo F
Peace with israel is the only solution in that region, better for the palestinians and the lebanese and all the other backward arab nations. They just do not realize that peace is the solution.

Second, Why do you think that all the other Leb and Pales. parties have to play GOD. Don't you see what israelies have been doing for ages??
Didnt you see Qana war from like 5 years or more and the year 2006, WHY did they bomb a UN base, WHY did they Bomb Innocent people's houses, they said that Hezbullah was there, well NEWSFLASH there was KIDS, do you think KIDS are small midgit groups of hezbullah..

Grow up man, one thing for sure is let us be alone and let israel find its bounderies and leave palestine alone. that should be called fairness and not jump and say i want this land, i want this mosque, i want this river. (selfish), we say WE WANT FREEDOM WHILE THEY SHOUT WE WANT MORE MORE MORE LAND

webby
Itay, you had my attention until you decided that Hezbollah was playing God with people's lives...If you want credibility, you need to be objective.

while I appreciate what you are saying, and I too wish the world operated in a non discriminative way but are you really "(instinctively)" that unbiased?

Do you sincerely believe that Hezbollah is the agressor in this situation? or the palestinians for this matter? who invaded who? and how many times? how many civilians did Israel lose? how many did Lebanon lose in the last war? and the one before? and the one before before...? who is occupying others land? and who is really bullying its way around the region?

please visit www.baladmankoob.com it might either refresh your memory or enlighten you a little.

you are trying to convey an important and valuable message, please don't tarnish it by painting a very inaccurate picture of the situation.

@moneymaker: I'm all ears, but before we start I find myself always explaining to people that I am no hezbollah supporter. In fact, I have a lot of isssues with the way they conduct their internal politics. I will listen to you if you can present fair and objective arguments.

The Dude
Who are you to point a finger at Hezbollah, claiming "they find it acceptable to play the role of God"? Israeli war planes bombed and killed children in Lebanon less than one year ago. Israel has an extremely advanced military along with a superb intel department. They knew exactly what and who they were bombing when they killed those children and they showed little remorse for their "mistake". Ask your self, "What is the current civillian death toll in the Palestine/Israel conflict? What was the civillian death toll from the most recent Israel/Lebanon conflict?" I'm not saying Israel doesn't have a right to defend itself (even though it has no right to be there in the first place), but the bottom line is Israel intentionally kills innocent civillians and children.

To answer the question, Not at all.

The arab word for "cease-fire" = reload.

The arab track record since islam was invented in 668 speaks for itself.

They are modern day Nazis, and should be treated like such.

We didn't cry and make excuses like "Well not ALLLLLL Nazis are bad, we shouldn't judge all on the actions of some." Well, those excuses didn't work for the Nazis, and it shouldn't work for the arabs.

On the military channel a soldier said there were 3 types of arabs:
~Terrorists
~Women who give birth to terrorists
~Kids who grow up to be terrorists.

Webby and Life are right.
I hate to be defending hezbollah, but when you say that they kill Lebanese because they are not Shia I have to ask you for proof.

all we see is thay killed Israeli to liberate occupied lebanese land.
please tell which Lebanese they have killed for not being Shia.

I know this is beside your question so to answer it: I wish we could put all the conflict behind us and live in peace.

What I want to know now is how many Lebanese are there that think like you itay?
I admire your ability to put everything aside like that, I couldn't be like you...

P.S. Satan, go back to hell.

P.P.S. Looking through some of these answers, I once again realize how naive the peace idea is. People will always point fingers and say "You were wrong!".
Whatever...

webby, I can argue every single point that you brought up, but only if you don't mind listening, and actually trying to understand my point of view on this. If you mind, then don't reply.

Edit:
OK, webby, here we go:

“Do you sincerely believe that Hezbollah is the aggressor in this situation? or the palestinians for this matter? who invaded who? and how many times?”

Not only do I believe it, I know it.
Look, Hezbos attack Israelis, on the Israeli side of the borders, kill 4 soldiers, kidnap 2 more, and fire 20 some katyushas at the closest Israeli town.

Pardon me, webby, with all due respect, please tell me again you don't consider it an attack of one sovereign country(Hezbos are part of your Government) against another.

If you lived in Israel, what would your suggestion be to the Israeli Government? How would you handle it? Also please keep in mind that a lot of times before (and mistakenly, IMO) Israelis simply didn't respond to many kinds of activities, or responded not aggressively.

As far as the palestinians - yes they are the aggressor. True more of them dies then Jews, but only by their own initiative.
Fact - if they decided today to have peace with Israel, there would be peace immediately, and not another hair would fall off their heads due to Jewish action. If Jews decided not to shoot back - they would ALL DIE. Every single last Jew would be massacred.
If you have a gun, and I have a stone, I am not going against you, unless I want to die. And even if you have something that in my opinion belongs to me, I will argue with you, and not try to kill you. But that is just me. Maybe those Gazans know better, I don't know...

who invaded who? Hezbos invaded Israel.
and how many times? Israel NEVER attacked Lebanon first, it was always Palestinians launching rockets, and making their guerilla attacks at Israeli farmers. Israel had always tried to solve these problems through the UN, diplomatically, but it never worked.
First shot was ALWAYS made out of Lebanon. ALWAYS webby. Can you argue that?
Hezbos have their own law. They don't care about an all-Lebanese law. They kill people when they want to. Please do not compare them to Israeli Government.

Israel is no picnic, but its actions are 100% justified, and even, IMO, too soft.

“how many civilians did Israel lose? how many did Lebanon lose in the last war? and the one before? and the one before before...?”
These questions are irrelevant because Israel protects its citizens, and Israeli soldiers are the ones dying. Hezbos use Lebanese children and women as shields. True more Lebanese died, but still Israeli Army targets terrorists, and a lot of times the innocent die. Hezbos are aiming at Israeli civilians. Big difference.

“ who is occupying others land? and who is really bullying its way around the region?”
who is occupying others land? Golan Heights are not your land. There was a war, and Israelis annexed that land. There are thousands of examples in the world history of countries annexing land from other countries. This is not, and was never about the land webby. It is about the existence of the state of Israel. Israelis would give you the Golan Heights in a heart beat in exchange for true peace, but you guys are too stubborn. You keep yelling “occupation! Death to Israel! Blah blah blah!” .

Israel is not “bulling” anyone. Israel is under a constant threat from all of you (its neighbors) and when it has to retaliate they HAVE to do it hard, so that the enemies would learn their lesson for at least a while. I know Hezbos did.

If all of us want peace, it should start right here, on these message boards. We should learn to speak to one another without hatred. We should learn to love one another despite our differences.

Israel want to keep occupying land that was never part of Israel. So, its up to Israelis to end the occupation of the Arab land for lasting peace.
