Do You wait up to see the New Year in?

Do you celebrate New Year's day the same as Christmas?

I wait up until midnight then wish all my family before going to bed.

I have never been a big party person for New Years Eve. But if I can manage it I will stay up in front of the TV with whoever can hang in with me and watch the fireworks and celebrations around the world. Last year though I fell asleep waiting and woke up with a stiff neck - hope that doesn't happen again.

Yes Yes Yes Jade, we wait for New Year and at the same time will have a lekker party usually a braai at friends. Love the waiting and the eating etc. When the dong sounds, I always wish my wife and kids a happy New Year and then the rest of our friends. Going to bed can be late and thank goodness that you can sleep late.

The last time i waited up was about 3 years ago at a friend of mine. We spent the evening in a borrelbad (don't know the English) until midnight when most of them left. When i left at about 04:00 i decided to go and have a new year's drink with the people who left early. Needless to say they weren't very impressed. Unfortunately we had a full day of tennis on New Year and believe me it wasn't that much fun.

?
For the past few years it has varied.....it mostly depends where and in whose company I am........I think I will stay up until after 12 this year.......somebody wants that and her wish must be granted......

Of course ! It is tradition ! Anyway ,my friends expect that of me because I am responsible for the fireworks ! Before anybody starts with their animal cruelty crap ,I am responsible ,I stay on a farm and my dogs get excited with the fire works as they are used to gunfire !

No, robbing myself of my sleep is not going to change the world. When I wake up it is all still there. Lol! I normally am awake still, but I stay indoors with the dogs. The Germans have this dreadful traditional thing of firing millions of Euros worth of fireworks in the night sky and the noise is deafening. It is totally depressing waking up and seeing all the debris lying around from all the spent firecrackers, sticks from rockets etc.

We used to do that "correct thing" of going out with a bottle of bubbly and celebrating with all the neighbours on the street. But somehow, standing outside in 2 or 3°C just to talk to sozzled fellow citizens does not appeal to me any more. And the noise from the fireworks gets the dogs shivering with fear!!

This year, we are going to a New Year´s Eve buffet which ends at a sane hour of 10 pm. Then home to the dogs, and watch the celebrations of the arrival of the New Year on TV.
