Again we see the hand of the English here, when we were colonised by the British anyone who did not speak English was considered to be secondclass and inferior to them and it became stigma for anyone who did not praat the Kings English, so a lot of Afrikaaners became English wannabe's.
Personally I think that Afrikaans is a much more expressive and passionate language than English and Afrikaans poetry is so cool.
EDIT Denzil
Why waste energy hating the Afrikaans language, do you speak Afrikaans? |

Ag please I speak Afrikaans and I can understand Dutch and speak it (if I can collect enough saliva in my mouth). Well I think people has more respect for Afrikaans, as soon as I start speaking Afrikaans people start to listen, to act and to concentrate. |

Language makes no difference it's how much respect i have for the person |

That sounds like a lot of nonsense. Each man has his own likes and dislikes. |

I had a friend that acted the same way, I didn't even know she was Afrikaans until I heard her speak to her mother. I think she was embarrassed that she came from a small town and just wanted to fit in. I think you should respect people no matter what language they speak. And as for the Dutch/Afrikaans thing I've never really had a problem and my Afrikaans isn't the best. |

I can not speak on behalf of all the men but I have to say no. Woman must be respected all the time and a real gentleman will always respect woman. For me South African woman English or Afrikaans are very attractive and I tell you now that we have some of THE most beautiful woman on earth. I think many of the men will say the same. |

I don't know, but they should have respect for any woman if that woman deserves it |

Respect is earned through actions and NOT by using a certain language!
To earn respect you have to have respect for yourself FIRST! |

Respect should be given to all women - no matter what language they speak!!
This also applies to men!!!
We should all have respect for each other. |

Many moons ago, and maybe today still, it was perceived that English speaking girls were "easier" than Afrikaans speaking girls.
At a certain age all (most) young men are out there with one thing on their minds, and that is to score. Just maybe, your friend knew this? It has nothing to do with respect. Inteendeel. |

Sounds more like insecurity or mistaken beliefs on your friends part rather than men having more respect for English speaking women. |

Pretoria used to have the most beautiful women in the world and they were mostly Afrikaans ladies.
But all foreign women are appealing to local Afrikaaner men because of the differences in their culture just as Boere meisies are very appealing to European men, especially the English.
It is most probably a hygiene thing because SA women are very clean and take their personal hygiene very seriously. |

No the English female are more witty nose up and smell something but not all of them
The Afrikaans city woman try following the English way |
|

Diezel

Well, since I generally hate Afrikaans as a language, I would rather respect an English-speaking woman. |

Oh my goodness!! how shallow!! Why should anyone culture deserve more respect thatn another? we all come from the same place and will all go to the same place eventually.
Whatever happened to equality? racial equality, sexual equality.........
Its not worth the breath of carrying on as it will probably fall on deaf ears to those serious believers of that female friends concept. |

Well it depends on the woman. If she deserves respect she would be honored with my respect. English or Afrikaans speaking is a very narrow mind set to respect some one. |

Wtf. That woman is insane. Afrikaans is by far the coolest language ever. I'm assuming she was bilingual? In which case, if you could speak both languages, why would you refuse to speak one of them? I think some xenophobia is afoot.
In related news, !!! is an awesome band. |

Lol Honey I agree with you 100% I know a very well known Afrikaans girl that's loved and feta all over the world, but she feels ashamed of being Afrikaans.

I agree with second post..
and apparently, people who speak Afrikaans as a first language cannot understand Dutch, yet Dutch people can understand Africkaans.. why is this?! Considering their extreme similarity and relation to one another? |

Afrikaans is a lame language so of course men respect English speaking women more. |
