Yes, I do know and yes I do care. I used to live there myself, my brother in law lives there still with his wife and my nephew who I've never seen.
It is just a pity that their email/ internet is so bad, it is difficult to keep in touch. They live in Empangeni and letters can take up to 6 weeks to arrive. I still often dream of being out there, it took many many years to settle down here and get used to this way of life. I definitly do care!!! |

I know that South Africa exists.
A number of colleagues tell me it is very pretty around the Cape and frequently recommend it to me as a place to visit.
I know that South Africa has come a long way since Nelson Mandela was released from Prison. I admire the way that your country had tried to overcome apartied. |

I have been. It's lovely. I went to Cape town, Johannesburg, along the garden route, Kruger national park, plattenberg..... so many places. When wine tasting, on safari, whale watching and table mountain.
I loved it, the only place I didnt like was Johannesburg. Didnt feel comfortable there, just as I dont in some parts of London. I loved Cape town.
Will go back one day and see more, didnt get to see Rhinos.
Take it you have a love for the place. |

Yes, I know about RSA as I left CapeTown recently as I was sick and tired of being mugged (five times) in broad daylight with no-one helping and being fobbed off by the police saying that as I wasn't shot or stabbed what was I complaining about? Eleven (11) of my friends/acquaintances have been murdered over the past few years and the violence isescalating due to extreme poverty there and governmental "couldnn't care less" attitude. If RSA is a forgotten land its because the present government doesnt want the world to see what is happening there. |

How can we not forget, half of you have left to annoy the rest of the world into never wanting to go there. nice country though I must say , humility maybe helpful for the future. |

Ive noticed that Americans discriminate and degrade South Africa so much and I must be honest, I don't think so much of USA either. I would never live there. I am PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN and I can tell you that South Africa might not be the safest place, the healthiest place and most definately not the richest, but we have treasures in our country, that you would've never imagined. Have you ever seen the bushveld, the forests, the animals, the beautiful rainbow nation! You can call us what you want, but we are not as superficial as you americans. If we are so stupid, why is one of the most successfull businessman in the world(Also American, Richard Branson) investing millions on our stupid little country???MMMM?Not to mention who else is going to. We were chosen for the WORLD CUP 2010, because our people are so passionate about soccer. We also have some of the best Universities, tourist attractions(God's Window, Robben Island, etc)and a strong and ever growing economy. Crime is all over the world. I've heard that America is so bad, Im scared to go there!!!PLEASE NOTE: NOWHERE IS SAFE, NO ONE IS SAFE FROM AIDS/HIV.What makes YOU so special!?!? |

How can some people criticise South Africa and actually know nothing about it or haven't even put a foot in our country!!! You people must get your facts sorted out and find out the truth first! Yes, we got crime, a sh*t government, AIDS and poverty but there is so so so so much more than all that in South Africa. Every country has their bad side and their good side! Most of you American's think your sh*t don't stink, well it does and some of you have a terrible attitude! South Africa is great, been living here for 18 years and i love it! |

Hi, I'm in England and we don't hear a thing on the news (radio or television). There is nothing in the newspapers about South Africa. So, if there's anything going on there, we don't know about it. Do you think there's
a conspiracy?.......Our Labour government hides what it dosent like or cant control, it stinks. Talk about 'Big brother'..... |

There are still NPR spots about it. Truth & reconciliation and all but it is out of the news so much since apartheid was officially ended. There is no war there. We know there is lots of poverty, AIDs and discrimination. Lots of racial strife. |

I wish that some of the "ignorant" people who answered would have more facts to back up what they are saying.
I have travelled to many countries (as a teacher) and many of my students couldn't even point out South Africa on a map. Sad, really. But I made it my goal to teach them all about SA, so as to also dispel all the "myths" about our gorgoeus country.
People focus so much on the negative, that they never see the good. There is so much more to SA than the crime, AIDS, poverty (which, btw, is not as bad as other countries in AFRICA). |

Yes,that is the big symbol of poverty and diseases, as well as the origin of AIDS,American continents almost focus their charity to that country and more hollywood celebrities have same projects!Ask michael Jackson and Oprah, they are only few of the big icon philantropies! So control your population! |

I felt really sad when I read your question and ashamed that people find it easier to turn a blind eye to the plight of those less fortunate. I just read an article on how in Africa the copper and mineral resources are not being mined to their potential and in some cases not mined at all just because of lack of educational opportunities and finances. It's really sad that the wealthiest of countries pour so much money into things like the Olympics when that money could be used to help a whole country get back on their feet. No you have not been forgotten. We just have to band together and get our governments butts in gear. People do care. |

I have been asked many questions about SA. The best one so far was when I was in England. They heard my accent and asked where I was from. I replied SA. NO !!! they said that is not possible and I asked why. Reply.........You are not black !!
I am in America now and still get asked funny questions. Do you have cities like us, wild animals, do they really walk free in town.
Got blamed for apartheid in SA. Had to remind him about the slaves in America.
SA has the best boerewors, biltong and barbecues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
