Do they have electricity in Africa?

Show all answers

Richard E
Quite a lot of the African nations have electricity. Your teacher should be able to tell you which ones don't.

celianne
Yes of course - even nuclear power stations too.
Do you think that's why it's called the Dark Continent.
Joke: What did they have in Zimbabwe before they used candles?
Answer: Electricity.
lol

Rhonda W
You do have to be joking...yes of course they do. They also wear clothing and eat with utensils..lol,,,

Joe

You'd have to be a lot more specific. You're dealing with a lot of countries who have different needs and different financial situations.

First of, Africa is not one single destination.

You might do well to listen to world news that is not biased as your manner of questioning in this day and age may come across as ignorant.

Having said that, there is no country out of the over 50 on the continent that is without electricity.

thats like asking an arab "do you ride a camel to school?"

curlyloxx
yes of course they do, but like here no one can afford to use it.

Odessa R
why wouldnt they ? Power in Africa Overview
Electric generating capacity in Africa in 1997 was concentrated in two regions — North and Southern Africa. Combined, those two regions alone accounted for 82% of total power generating capacity in Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo (Central), Kenya (East), and Nigeria (West) are the leaders in power generating capacity for Africa’s other regions.

South Africa’s utility, Eskom, is the world’s fifth largest utility measured both in electricity sales and nominal generating capacity. Eskom also operates Africa’s only nuclear power generation facility (Koeberg) at Capetown.

South Africa, Zambia and Ghana are the largest net exporters of electricity in Africa. In 1997, net exports from South Africa were 6.6 terawatthours (Twh) of power, Zambia 1.2 Twh, and Ghana 0.3 Twh.

CENTRAL AFRICA
The Canadian firm, Ocelot Energy, and the Societe Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH), Cameroon’s state-owned oil firm, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a 175-megawatts (MW) power facility. The gas-powered facility will be supplied with fuel from the Sanaga Sud field which Ocelot is developing offshore southern Cameroon.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is planning to develop projects to expand the Inga hydroelectric facility located on the Congo River. The 2,000-MW Inga II plant and the 40,000-MW Grand Inga facility would be utilized primarily for power exports. The combined capacity of these two projects is almost as large as Southern Africa’s current installed capacity.

It definately felt like electricity, when them nasty, scary men connected them electrode thingies to my plums. Imagine my surprise when I found out they thought I was a spy!

meeeeee
Of course they do!

Phy A
ANDREW H, what kinda school did you attend? You mean Africans are in camps calling themselves refugees? What is your understanding of a refugee? Is it someone in his own country living in a camp? Then i guess SUMMER CAMPS too are REFUGEE CAMPS isn't it?
A larger population of Africans are with electricity.Ghana exports electricity to Togo and Cote D'ivoire, get it inot your mind.
Did you know that airplanes controls in the airports use electricity? if you do know, then do you mean, NAA,KLM,Luftansa,British Airways and others contact their host airport through CANDLES support for trasmission?

depends on where you are all of the cities and big towns do but rural, now that is the Question,
now that depends on the african country you are in when I built the orphanage in Mumbuni near Muchakos (A small town between Nairobi and Mombasa)Kenya, we had electric for maybe 4 hours a day but the tribal huts not at all and they where only 2ks away. so depends where and what country you are in, here in Egypt I can Tell you everybody has electric if they can afford it.

If you are older than 7, then I am wondering if they have schools in your country.

xavier
They have more than enough if utilised correctly, as a matter of
fact technologically they are in some countries more advanced
than most european countries as they embrace the best
technology available from all over the world and even improve on
it.
There are some countries where the leaders are only interested
in lining their own pockets -like Zim and more will follow this
route and crash.
