I dont know if I got correctly the scence of the question...........but I think that is was mostly for us living outside Lebanon. Of course lebanese living in Lebanon will talk arabic (lebanese) to their kids, but for us is different. In my own case, I spoke lebanese with my dad, but after he died many years ago, I hadnt any other person to talk with in that lang. So after few years I had forgotten it. My country is so far away from Lebanon.....and in spite of in the first half of XX century, lot of lebanese pple arrived here, nowadays, they dont. So........old pple that talked it have died, and we cant talk it more. I'm trying to update it going every weeks to arabic classes, but is not the same as when it was easier talking it at home.
About my "children"......... they are adult ones, they have their own lives now, and they are not so much interested in their lebanese roots. They have lebanese, spanish and french heritage.........and bornt in Uruguay, so, unfortunatelly they only care about their own country. |

I am still unsure if I want children but if we ever have any my husband and I will teach them english and arabic at the same time... it will be beneficial to them to learn as they grow instead of having to learn arabic like me all at once gosh its so hard... with that being said im stil learning so email me if you want to help me :) |

definately.. and i agree with Tonks in every thing she said.
it's very important they know the language fluently.. french and english comes second not along with.. |

ABSOLUTELY!! If they become fluent in both Arabic and English they will be essentially set for life. Western countries are scraping the corners of the earth for people that know Arabic and this will most definately help them find jobs. The more english-speaking people that understand the middle east, the better off the future for this war-stricken, misunderstood part of the world. |

I'm a teenager, but yes, they will speak in Arabic because it's their own language, their mother tongue!!!!!!!!! |

I only know a little Arabic and i speak it to my grandchild....even though he is too young to speak yet...but some day he will understand it...and we encourage his Egyptian father to speak it to him all the time. This is his heritage too....not just English! We want him to know both languages...he is both Egyptian and American. |

I will teach them Lebanese and English language. I see both are important:
Lebanese language for the culture and generation of my family.
English language because now everything is in English LOL |

Yes, i do.
and i think whoever talks with his children with another language is making a mistake.
As for Arabs who lives outside their countries i think it's not important to continuosly talk to them in Arabic, but it's important that they grow up understanding the language, whatever the means will be. |

for me yes, because it is important that your children can know various types of languages. for them to be globally competitive in the future |

yes, i speak arabic with them...i hate it when people who are Lebanese and living in Lebanon speak english or french with their kids...I think it's so silly...and BTW both my kids speak perfect french and english...my youngest son is a walking dictionary...lol
seriously the mother-tongue language is very important for the children...then other languages will come easily |

We did, at first. We had the best intentions but when they started school and as we became more comfortable with English ourselves we got lazy and it became easier to speak to them in English.
Arabic is "mum is angry at us" language, I quickly switch to it as nothing expresses anger easier than our good old lebanese.
And my husband and I only speak arabic together so,they fully understand it, but they speak it like the Arman (sorry Jeddo). |

My children can't speak. I have triplets but they're still so young.
My wife has somewhat a less blueish fur than mine so our babies colour are in between.. cute furry things... they are annoying when they yell though. |

When i was living in Australia ofcourse with my parents back than, they always use to say u can go anywhere and speak English, but at home u have to speak arabic.
And i think it was a good idea especially for those who are living aboard.
And yes ofcourse its important to learn the language if their Lebanese. |
