You only have to look at all the settlements which are still being built in Palestine, even after so much international condemnation, to understand that Israel's rulers are not interested in true peace. All they are interested in is minimizing the attacks on their own people.
Last year, I met a young lady in her early twenties who had just finished 4 years of service with the Israeli military. I expected her to be quite militant about the situation, but she was just fed up with the conflict and the violence. All she wanted was for the region to be peaceful once again.
It seems to me that, like so many other areas of conflict, it is a very small group of extreme ideologues who call the shots and the silent and moderate majority who have to bend to their megalomania.
The Palestinians and Jews lived side by side in relative peace for over a thousand years before the Zionist radicals began terrorizing the region at the beginning of the 20th century. I feel ashamed that it was my country that caved into them. |

Yes. Most of us want peace. We really do.
We once believed that the Arabs who live in Gaza and the West Bank want peace too. We don't believe it anymore.
They always said that they'll push us to the sea. They couldn't do it by war, so they try to do it with demands that have no sense at all. Demands that if will be met, the state of Israel will cease to exist in a decade due to natural causes (population growth of Arabs is grater by far!!!)
But nevertheless, we still will strive for it, against the odds!!! |

i would like to say that i really hope so, any opposition to peace on either side just leads to stalemate, and a continuation of the violence, and bloodshed.non peaceful tactics have not worked, thats been proved historically, each side cannot be destroyed by the other, why not acknowledge each other, and work towards two states existing together, in peace. the radicals and zealots on both sides, have to be controlled by the majority of moderates on both sides.otherwise it will just carry on as usual, and where has that got anyone? |

I agree with Gonzo and wish there was peace. Not only there but everywhere. It was the Israeli's that stole their land and they should be able to get it back without all the fighting. I am on the Palestine side as Israel always want what they can't have and do what ever they can to get their own way. Wish it will all end though, too many people getting murdered for no real reason. I don't believe in fighting especially wars. |

Yes, I do believe that they are. But they have alot of other countries who want to wipe them off the face of the earth, so they have a good reason to be against a Palestine state. |

I think that many Israeli people are.
But I think the military and politicians are not - and I do not trust them. |

Yes oh yes.
But not at the price we are asked to pay.
1. Israel became a state in 1312 B.C.., two millennia before Islam;
2. Arab refugees from Israel began calling themselves "Palestinians" in 1967, two decades after (modern) Israeli statehood;
3. After conquering the land in 1272 B.C.., Jews ruled it for a thousand years and maintained a continuous presence there for 3,300 years;
4. The only arab rule following conquest in 633 B.C.. lasted just 22 years;
5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem was the Jewish capital. it was never the capital of any arab or Muslim entity. even under Jordanian rule, (east) Jerusalem was not made the capital, and no arab leader came to visit it;
6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the bible, but not once is it mentioned in the qur'an;
7. King david founded Jerusalem; mohammed never set foot in it;
8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem; Muslims face mecca. if they are between the two cities, Muslims pray facing mecca, with their backs to Jerusalem;
9. In 1948, arab leaders urged their people to leave, promising to cleanse the land of Jewish presence. 68% of them fled without ever setting eyes on an Israeli soldier;
10. Virtually the entire Jewish population of Muslim countries had to flee as the result of violence and pogroms;
11. Some 630,000 arabs left Israel in 1948, while close to a million Jews were forced to leave the Muslim countries;
12. In spite of the vast territories at their disposal, arab refugees were deliberately prevented from assimilating into their host countries. of 100 million refugees following world war 2, they are the only group to have never integrated with their coreligionists. Most of the Jewish refugees from europe and arab lands were settled in Israel, a country no larger than new
jersey;
13. There are 22 Muslim countries, not counting Palestine. There is only one Jewish state. arabs started all five wars against Israel, and lost every one of them;
14. Fatah and Hamas constitutions still call for the destruction of Israel. Israel ceded most of the West Bank and all of Gaza to the Palestinian authority, and even provided it with arms;
15. During the Jordanian occupation, Jewish holy sites were vandalized and were off limits to Jews. under Israeli rule, all Muslim and christian holy sites are accessible to all faiths;
16. Out of 175 united nations security council resolutions up to 1990, 97 were against Israel; Out of 690 general assembly resolutions, 429 were against Israel;
17. The UN was silent when the Jordanians destroyed 58 synagogues in the old city of Jerusalem. It remained silent while Jordan systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the mount of olives, and it remained silent when Jordan enforced apartheid laws preventing Jews from accessing the Temple Mount and Western Wall.
THESE ARE TRYING TIMES. WE MUST ASK OURSELVES WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING, AND WHAT WE WILL TELL OUR GRANDCHILDREN ABOUT OUR ACTIONS DURING THIS CRISIS, WHEN WE HAD THE CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. |

You only have to look at the political parties in the Israeli government for that answer.
Likud, Kadama, Labor, and most of the others all call for a two state solution. They only argue on how and when it should be implemented.
And Israelis vote for them knowing full well this is what they want.
If they were not interested they would vote for parties that do not advocate this (they do exist)
Gaza on the other hand how are we supposed to talk about peace when the leadership in charge refuses to acknowledge Israels existence?
When Hamas says it wants peace talks or even a permanent cease fire I will be the first to demand it. |

Israel has agreed to every peace treaty offered, the Palestinians have agreed to none, zero, zip!
Have you considered relocation to the West? Why do you stay there amid all the violence? The border is open -- leave before it is sealed again.

Here's a question that was just posted: "Whats the best way to defeat Israel and liberate Palestine? I was thinks perhaps the Russian military could do it but then Israel might call up the Zionist Israeli Lobby in the US Government and launch ICBMs cause a nuclear winter. Still something needs to be done to defeat them does anyone have any ideas?"
So, you think that it's only Israel that is having a hard time being peaceful? Look again. There are people who would love to wipe Israel off the face of the map. |

"they even refuse to open Jerusalem file in the current negotiations"
Even? even?
You think that's an example of Israelis' intransigence that they are willing to discuss the possibility of a Palestinian state if such a thing would bring peace but stop at giving over Jerusalem, Israel's heart?
How about this?
How about Palestinian's unwillingness to give up any of their demands in any sort of negotiations including Jerusalem is an example of intransigence?
Try that on for size. |

Sorry for being redundant for those of you who have read this answer on a similar question that is also open.
Since the ability to make peace lies with the one who caused this war in the first place by making a new country with other peoples' land and continues to use violence as it exerts its dominant position, I say go ahead and declare peace, Israel!
What I think many Israelis must fail to see is what the meaning of peace truly is. Peace does not equal total subjugation, nor does it equal annihilation, though both of these may cause an end to violence.
Peace occurs when two sides recognize each other as humans who have the same basic hopes and dreams for themselves as they do.
Peace occurs when groups say, "I have hurt you, and here is what I will do to make amends."
Peace occurs when groups say and act on the principle, "I want for you what I want for myself."
So, is Israel REALLY ready?
The lack of leadership on the Palestinian side is not so vital, but winning over the hearts and minds of the Palestinians is. Truly following my principles as stated above will convince most of them. Will some never give up the fight? Most probably. But that does not mean striving for peace is not worth it. Eventually, with an absence of injustice in the life of the average Palestinian, those voices, and indeed, those fighters, will grow smaller in number until they too accept that peace has broken out. |
