Do you accept converts to Islam as REAL muslims??

I am an american convert to Islam, myself and many convert friends have had people from muslims countries treat us like as if we are not REAL muslims, many times they dont even give us the Salaams? what the heck?

Asalaam alykum sister. I am Australian and a recent convert to Islam. I now live here in Egypt and I have found only wecoming arms amongst the Muslim community in Luxor.
Even my sisters on this site have always given me support and encouragement and still do. Especially as we approach Ramadan.
This is my first and I was a little concerned about whether I would be able to maintain willpower to fast,it is not the food but not being able to drink when I work out in the open air caused me concern.
Even in my career I have found support and have been given research work for the next month instead of taking measurements of excavations.
I feel sad that you are experiencing this sort of treatment. It is certainly not indicative of Muslim communities here and in Australia.I do hope that the situation will get better for you.InashAllah.

I have no idea what those people are thinking, but apparently they are the ones who are not acting as true Muslims should. Personally, I have far greater respect for converts who chose Islam by their own free will than I do for those who were born Muslim and take their religion for granted.

My late mother in law was a convert and she was the kindest sweetest person I ever saw in my life. God rest her soul. You are always welcome here sister. Salam

Hope
Why do u care for humans when yr main concern should be Allah SWT.

Off course we accept them and respect them. Welcome to Islam my dear sister may Allah swt bless us all.

Salaam alaykum!
if you ever get the chance to go to Hajj.. do!.. you'll be amazed at the vast different races, peoples, cultures.. You will see white blue eyed blonde hair people, praying alongside dark black eyed black people.. all languages, all races.. all praying together as one unite of brotherhood.. Its so amazing it makes you cry.. .. I am truly sorry for the experience you've received with some bad muslims, they are not representing good Islam... Cause Islam is not a racist religion, it accepts all colors, races.. Allah says in the Quran, the best of you is the best in faith, not color or status..
Allah hafeez!
And I hope your upcoming month of Ramadan goes well for you and you gain many blessings from it! ^-^

Asalam alaikum, sister alhamdulillah for your ' RE version" to Islam as we are all born muslims. Im really surprised to hear your issue. I am also a revert 3+ years, and although sometimes people are abit 'standoffish" generally I am welcomed everywhere i go. Almost to the point of embarassment as everyone wants to know the story behind my coming to Islam...this is especially true in muslim countries. I cant tell u how many times Ive been treated to tea, or lunch even just to tell my story.... I pray that this doesnt continue, and you are embraced as you should be...take care, salaams.

I thought of one other thing, you didnt mention it specifically, but if alot of brothers dont give u salaams, it may be because more conservative muslims follow the opinion that men dont speak to unrelated women, unless necessity, hence they take that to mean that salaams is not a necessity. Ill give u a personal example, if I am on the way out of the masjid and a sister is entering, I wont intiate salaams. If she does, then so as to no offend her i will return the greeting....If I am with my wife and a man offers his salaams, i return the greeting for both of us so to speak. If my wife is alone she will not greet a man, if he greets her she turns her head so as not to look at him, and returns the greeting. Maybe this helps....

Of course we respect people who convert to Islam by their own & in my opinion some time these people is better than who borne Musslims.
I won't talking about the people you dealed with but may they have their concerns so just keep improving your Islam & know that you did for Allah not for human being & they will change thei minds about you.
Congratulations & May Allah protect you.

revert to Islam
think of the way that i look at this matter
a revert to Islam comes to be a person who studied the religion and saw it in a very clear way and saw the Truth and accepts it
while the Muslim by birth in some cases needs the work that a revert did in order to safe his soul and body
i am sure a revert in many cases is in a higher degree than some of those who inherited Islam

above all THEY are not real muslims if they act that way
May Allah guide, protect and bless you!!! ....Ameen

A Muslim convert is equal to any other Muslim in the eyes of the Holy Qur'an. Furthermore, a convert has more advantages than a born Muslim for two reasons:

A convert deserves a bigger reward from God than a born Muslim. A convert becomes a Muslim usually after a great deal of research and some psychological crisis, because changing religion is not an easy task. It takes a great deal of courage and effort on the part of the convert, while a born Muslim receives his religion by inheritance.
A convert is considered, by his conversion to Islam, pure and free of any previous sin. All his previous sins are wiped out entirely. He will be responsible only for the sins which he commits after becoming a Muslim. Thus, if a person becomes a Muslim in the early morning, after sunrise, then he dies before noon, he is entitled to enter paradise without having practiced or performed any of the devotional duties which a Muslim is required to do. He did not have to perform morning prayer because his conversion to Islam took place after sunrise, nor did he have to perform the noon prayer because he did not live until noon, the prayer time.

They are ignorant, you are more of a muslim then they are, sallam is for God, a real stingy person is the one that is stingy with sallam. Do not answer those who speak before they greet you.

Of course you are real Muslim, may be you are better to Allah than others who just inherited their religeon without choosing Islam. Don't bother yourself with these people, Allah will reward you now & in Paradise Inshallah.

Asalam Alaikum,

That is most unfortunate that they treat you like that. I'm a Muslim-American revert myself. I have noticed that a lot of the cultural beliefs of certain people keep them from following Islam correctly. Some may even think they are "better" than the reverts. I've had this experience with the son of one of our Imams here, lol. As he also seems to think the Arabs are the supreme race. Allah save us from such discrimination. Allah knows best!

i really think you are the real muslims because you choosed the islam . while we just inherit our islam from our parents
& im sure the majority of us would be non muslims if our parents were non muslims. some times i ask my self what would i be if my parents weren't muslims i really don't find answer but all what i can do thanking god for the grace of being muslim
yeah you are the real muslims .don't care about the ignorant

Wise Heart
A Muslim is a Muslim. Sometimes new convert are better really than a Born Muslim person.

I think the number of thumbs up to some answers show you how the majority of Muslims think.

honey you are a muslim now and that's it
some muslims don't things wrong just ignore them
u r a muslim and therefore u are always welcomed bet us
in egypt here many muslim converts americans live and we find them very friendly and we treat them as a family
honey a real muslim is that who fears Allah, worships Him and does the dictates of our religion that is the real muslim and noone else

I do respect converted to Islam persons, and i think they are more devout than lots of muslims who were born muslims.

You are a real Muslim - but that doesn't mean that some other Muslims aren't ignorant in their behavior like you will find among Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc... That is too bad you have dealt with such ignorance.

Good Luck!!!

AA
Assalaamualikum Sister In Islam,

There are stupid minded people of all faiths, try not to let anyone bother you, you must have a good heart otherwise Allah wouldn't have chosen your heart to implant or awaken the faith in Islam.

I suggest that you contact some New Muslims groups were ever you are living and seek support from them because many people will be sharing the same experiences.

Good Luck

Samantha
Sorry for the way those so called Muslims have treated u... they certainly do/did not act Islamic...

My belief is that converts deserve much more respect than born Muslims...
Cz they've searched until they have found Islam...

Keep in mind... that the only person (other than the Prophet n Imams) who reached the highest level of faith... was Salman Farsi... a convert...
he was first a Zoroastrian monk... working in a temple... then converted to Christianity... then heard about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)... n decided to find him... but was captured as a slave... the Prophet bought n released him... n he turned Muslim n stayed with the Prophet until he passed away...

Someone who searches in themselves n in different religions to find God... someone who draws conclusion based on what is instead of what has been told to them...
These someones deserve lots of respect...

to me i think converts are actually better muslims than the muslims who are born into islam, converts are always good muslims and are faithful to islam, the other musims usually bring culture into the religion which always causes problems...

Yes of course Islam accepts reverts as Muslims. I know a few Saudi women and they accept me as a Muslim revert. My mother in law and father in law accept me as a Muslim American woman and as their daughter in law. They love me. Maybe it just depends on what Muslim country you are in.

Commodore
You should not worry about what other people think of you. You know that you are doing what is required of you according to the Deen of Islam and most converts upkeep the religion better that some who were born into it. I have seen it for myself. Just continue with what you believe in.

Praise be to Allaah.

All people are the descendants of one man and one woman, believer and kaafir, black and white, Arab and non-Arab, rich and poor, noble and lowly.

Islam does not pay attention to differences in colour, race or lineage. All people come from Adam, and Adam was created from dust. In Islam, differentiation between people is based on faith (eemaan) and piety (taqwaa), by doing that which Allaah has enjoined and avoiding that which Allaah has prohibited. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allaah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqoon (the pious)]. Verily, Allaah is All-Knowing, All Aware”

[al-Hujuraat 49:13]

Islam regards all people as equal as far as rights and duties are concerned People are equal before the law (sharee’ah), as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Whoever works righteousness — whether male or female — while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)” [al-Nahl 16:97]

Faith, truthfulness and piety all lead to Paradise, which is the right of the one who acquires these attributes, even if he is one of the weakest or lowliest of people. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whosoever believes in Allaah and performs righteous good deeds, He will admit him into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) to dwell therein forever. Allaah has indeed granted for him an excellent provision” [al-Talaaq 65:11]

Kufr, arrogance and oppression all lead to Hell, even if the one who does these things is one of the richest or noblest of people. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“But those who disbelieved (in the Oneness of Allaah – Islamic Monotheism) and denied Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they will be the dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever. And worst indeed is that destination” [al-Taghaabun 64:10]

The advisors of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) included Muslim men of all tribes, races and colours. Their hearts were filled with Tawheed and they were brought together by their faith and piety – such as Abu Bakr from Quraysh, ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib from Bani Haashim, Bilaal the Ethiopian, Suhayb the Roman, Salmaan the Persian, rich men like ‘Uthmaan and poor men like ‘Ammaar, people of means and poor people like Ahl al-Suffah, and others.

They believed in Allaah and strove for His sake, until Allaah and His Messenger were pleased with them. They were the true believers.

“Their reward with their Lord is ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (Gardens of Eternity), underneath which rivers flow. They will abide therein forever, Allaah will be pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord”

[al-Bayyinah 98:8 – interpretation of the meaning]

WTF?! Those guys are wrong. Not only are u a true Muslim, you guys are even BETTER than us "real" ones because you have a fresh slate with no bad deeds!

Islam is like a pot-luck; so I love seeing converts bringing new stuff to the table. I'm an American Muslim myself and sometimes other Muslims don't respond with Salam (pretty rare though..im not sure why) but idc. It's their own loss. "Salam" is the greeting of God.

COngrats on ur convert sister. Keep ur head up..ANd...

Salams to u!!

look first of all , i consider myself as blessed for being born Muslim , that's something i thank god for more than being proud of , because it was out of my hand , when i grown up and read about religions , i became little proud , but every time i think i might have been born non Muslim i get frightened because it is really hard to change something you were born and raised believing in it , so i consider people like you are more respectable Muslims than even myself , why because they had the courage to change their religion not fearing others , sometimes i consider them better than many in born Muslims who don't really follow Islam so go ahead god bless you and gives you confidence more to face the world , but i really you really don't have to face Muslims you have your enough troubles , we have a saying in Cairo and it is the religion is for ALLAH and our country is for all so seek just acceptance of Allah not from people , and god bless you again
