No problem with it, this type of thing happens all the time all over the world. Why should it be a problem in SA? And Oliver Tambo did a lot for SA, why should he not be honoured? |

who cares it is not going to change my feelings for South Africa ,love the place ,may take some getting used to but how many times do you use that name apart from when you are buying a ticket or collecting somebody,
another name is not going to upset anybodies life, |

No I don't. If any renaming be done it should be to reflect the truly diverse nature of the country. Names which hold special meaning to all people should be respected. As hard as what this may sound, even names pointing toward South Africa's past you should be retained. One cannot erase the past and one shouldn't. We need to remember where we came from and the lessons of the past so as not to repeat mistakes of the past. |

Sure its okay
Wat kan ons nou eintlik maak om dit te verander!!!
I really dont mind though
I think people will still rever to it as JHB International so there ya go!!!! |

no i dont.... how many millions of rands is it gonna cost just to change the name? that money should be spent elsewhere. on homes for the homeless. on education for the uneducated. on freaking medication for peope living with HIV AIDS!!
it is a ridiculous name, it looks ridiculous, and how ridiculous are foreigners gonna think we are when they see they have to fly to OR Tambo airport. what a joke. |

it is absolutely pathetic, they're just changing names all over the place....For what????????
Only cause all the names were in Afrikaans now it's got to be in some black language although they don't even have the money to buy a ticket. I think all these name changes are uncalled for. Leave South Africa as it is so we can still love our country |

Johannesburg International was such a neutral name, compared to it's previous name of "Jan Smuts".
This is just gradually turning the tables. I agree with it being changed from an Afrikaans name to a neutral name for the whole country, but now their naming it after someone again, and even though Oliver Thambo did big things for the youth league, it's being hypocritical, scrapping one name, cause it was "racist apartheid" and them giving it a left wing name instead. |

I thinks it's crap and confusing, but it's done ALL OVER THE WORLD. |

I agree with 'gem' 100%! Do you know how much money it takes just to change the name?! And besides, if you're gonna change the name, at least change it to something normal! |

since when does it matter whether the populace agrees or not? It will be changed none the less. What I find amusing that on the same day that the airport was renamed officially, there was a taxi strike in Johannesburg. As with most strikes it turned violent and the roads were chaos... does the gov. deal with the strike! Nope, they were too busy celebrating the renaming of the airport. Hell its easy to get around when you don't rely on public transport and have cavalcades to get you everywhere with ease. |

i think it is sad.isnt south africa a rainbow nation.does it mean that all afrikaans names are now going to change.is the afrikaner not also part of the new south africa?i dont mind a few changes but at the rate it is now going ,i dont know.ive been living in europe now for the past 2 years and ive heard that pretoria´s name has changed to tswane or something.has johannesburg city also changed?dont get me wrong ,i love the new south africa and do believe that things in the country will improve but all this name changing is in my opinion is pointless.with all the money that it takes to make these changes the government should rather build houses for the poor. |

If all this renaming carries on on day we will wake up and there will be no South Africa. I believe that it is wrong in every way. |

Absolute waste of money. I know that Ekulani council wants to get their name on the map, so to speak, but their cash reserves could be put to much better use helping the people of the area. |

i agree with gem...this stupid gov is always talking about helping the poor....HOW IS CHANGING A NAME OF AN AIRPORT GONNA SAVE MILLIONS OF LIVES!!!!!
i just really think that our government should get it priorities sorted out!!!

Its a big load of rubbish. From a practical point of view- it has cost alot of money to change names to OR Tambo- both locally and worldwide- think about the confusion its going to cause aswell, until the name change has become known worldwide. Maps and charts now have to change aswell. Politically, the current government always rants on the fact that many streets and places are named after personalities from the "Previous Regime" such as Jan Smuts and Louis Botha, hence they changed names to JNB Intl, DNB Intl, etc. All they have done now is gone in the complete opposite direction by naming JNB Intl OR Tambo. It's ridiculous. And as mentioned, its causing the rift between white and black to increase. Got to get out (unfortunatley). |

Yes, I agree.
We've heard of Louis Botha, Nico Mallan and Jan Smuts whose names were given to our airports. I don't even know who they were and I'm still not interested. Their time is over now. It's about time that we hear of the real heros like Oliver Tambo, Shaka, Senzangakhona, etc. Their names bear the actual African essence and are much relevant to the African soil. |
|

I dont even know who oliver tambo was/is!!
Its stupid and a waste of money!!
They ask why are all the white people leaving, its coz we are tooooo scared that they'll sommer change our names aswell! |

What's in a name anyway, just showing respect sounds ok to me, everybody will still call it by it's old name like the city ,overseas it's still refered to as Johannesburg but locally as Gauteng, no big deal. |
