Do you appreciate it when ...? |
someone reaches out and gives you a helping hand, even if it is their sworn duty to do so? For example, did you ever truly appreciate the efforts and dedication of a teacher who tried his/her best to help you, or a doctor who did his/her best to heal you? Do you ever say thank you to people like that, or do you take their help for granted, assuming they are only doing their duty? Do you ever remember them later on, and do you ever pray for them? Is there someone in particular you would like to thank and regret not having thanked back then? |

I think doing ones job properly is always cause for praise, even if that person in question doesn't expect such praise for doing his duty...
I thank the supermarket cashier for serving me... and I feel grateful if he does it with a smile... So I sure would expect people to thank a doctor for saving a life... or an architect for building a beautiful house.
Now a comment for "harry k":
You are wrong twice in your short statement;
First the biggest recipient of US aid is Israel not Egypt. Second the US gets far more from Egypt than the "aid" it so generously keeps bragging about, in terms of strategic alliance serving basically American interests.
End result, the US has gained out of this so called "Aid" to Egypt much more than it has paid while we got nothing but trouble.
Did I hear you say "thank you"?
Edit to "harry k": Where did you get those unrealistic (funny) statistics? No wonder the link you provided is not working. Here are some realistic figures from the following source covering the period 2001-2006 :
http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/politics/us-foreign-aid.htm
I quote 2006 figures below (in Millions of US$):
Israel: 2520
Egypt: 1795
Colombia: 558
Jordan: 461
Pakistan: 698
Peru: 133
Indonesia: 158
Kenya: 213
Bolivia: 122
Ukraine: 115
And by the way its no secret that Israel is the top recipient of US foreign assistance... followed by Egypt (Both countries receive around one third of total US foreign Assistance).
Please just try to have at least a vague idea about what you intend to talk about in order not to look like a total ignorant.
Edit to "harry k": Here are some more sources for top US foreign assistance recipients:

Of course I appreciate it and everyone should learn how to appreciate others who are there for them when they are in need. Yes of course teachers, doctors, and all other professionals have a duty to fullfil and they do get paid for it, but no one forces them to be honest or clear with their students or patients. Like for example, u will see teachers who teach nothing whatsoever at class so they can get their students to take private lessons with them and earn more money. When it comes to doctors there are also the good and the bad, some have principles and morals and some care only abt how much money they make. I've had a horrible toothache for almost a year and it wud go away n come back. I went to a dentist in Egypt but she ***** see anything wrong other than gum infection. Nothing worked. So last week,my sister took me to that Egyptian Christian dentist she knows and he knew right away I had a cavity plus gum infection which was causing me pain. Seeing as I'm pregnant he ***** do an X-ray and he was so nice explaining this to me and was very concerned for my and the baby's safety. He still treated me and I do not feel a thing now. His hands were like magic lol. I appreciated him a lot and after a couple of days I asked my sister to call him and thank him for me as she knows him better than I do and she did. my point is, no matter what background u come from or what ur religion is, we have to appreciate those who give us a helping hand and at least tell them thank u and mean it! We should also learn to appreciate other poor people like the garbage man who takes out our garabage daily, the plumber who fixes our bathroom, the delivery guy who delivers our groceries. We many not notice such ppl often or give a lot of attention to them, but our lives would never be the same without them. |

yes,i try to show them that I'm thankful for what they did..
any i have special appreciation to eye doctors =]
whom i had a long journey with them since i was 1 yr old....i even said if i had to choose a field of medicine I'd choose to be an eye doctor,it's really interesting and I've seen doctors helped ppl to get back their sight....i dunno what's better than that...
some of do heal ppl just because it's their duty or because of the money, but recovery need more than that,it needs to feel that the doctor is caring and act as if u r his own patient
but i dunno why my eye doctor don't ask about me anymore :(
is it because he is busy?or it's just because he's an eye doc ;p |

Yep. My school teacher I was about 12 years old, Mrs Sagoo (",)
I till this day admire her for her work. I have seen her many times and always give her a (((hug))) and remind her how caring and good she was. I sometimes pop in to the school where she works just to say 'Hi', though I saw her the other day at Cinema's and told me she is retiring, I told her it was well deserved since she made alot of differences in our lifes. |

yes i do say thank u, i feel very grateful, and i do pray 4 them cuz even tho its their job not everyone will do their job. like for example i have had many teachers who really did not care about the education of the students altho it is their job.
God bless=) |

First of all, seeing true dedication by any person in his work is really very rare today, so when i do receive their good services i make sure to offer them my gratitude as much as i can. However, i am sorry to say this but people have lost their passion for excellence. They need to feel a certain respect for their humanity first before being able to give, though this might sound incorrect but i feel commpassion for them.
Anyway, as you mentioned doctors, i have to tell you that i have the utmost respect for my eye doctor, the one whose perseverence for my case, was able to give me the correct diagnosis for my case which was quite rare and unheard of at that time, though i went to several other famous names in their specialities, who knew absolutely nothing and went as far as trying to convine me that i was imagining things, lol.
Anyway, i always remeber him and call him from time to time and make sure to thank him every chance i get. It is people like that, that restore my faith in humanity and goodness.
@ Msafwat: Well said couldn't have put it better.
@ Harry k: still waiting for that thank you. |

You lost me here... that's a lot of questions... so I'll just pick the last one.. yes there is someone I regret not thanking.. but it wasn't intentional.. It's that after the storm had passed I tried to find that person but I couldn't.. sorry I can't reveal the details
and I'll say thank you USA (if you really are giving aid) |

sure honestly;i do feel real happy when some body is trying to do hisher best in any kind of work not to mention if I'm involved
@harry //// you should know that Egypt is NOT the pla pla you said
and we can say thank you only when the US stop to think that they have the divin right to tell others what to do and when to do it |
