Yes, I saw the advert to the link that Mars attack has given - I almost wet myself laughing at that, I mean honestly, what problems do most Australians have other than decide whether they want Vic Bitter or XXXX with their Kangaroo steak.
If Australians had to face the sort of problems that South Africans do on a daily basis from this incompitent government then the shooting would most likely have started already.
But, perhaps South Africans should take the advice of the crime denialists and Eutopia hallucinatories and ignore all the problems in South Africa (this does seem an enticing alternative doesn´t it?) heck we wouldn´t want to bring world attention on the problems that South Africa faces, they may actually give the event to someone else then.
Yes, let´s rather proceed on the path of trying to hide our problems, that way perhaps they will disapear, the government won´t have to do much either and we get to host the event so that we can all benefit from it!
This is an incredibly short term outlook and reminds me of the drug user looking for his next fix to make all other problems go away!
South Africans may not want to mention or face their problems but all this world cup attention is fantastic and will make the rest of the world a little more aware of all the sordid going-ons in South Africa and then perhaps a little more pressure will be put on the government to face the issues.
Alternatively all the denialists and deluded brethren can start moving further and further southwards in the general direction of Cape Town as Europeans in Africa have been doing for decades already in an attempt to stall the inevitable outcome of a decaying society.
Good luck!
How is that working for you so far? |

i have to say no i think that south africa will definitely loose the hosting of the 2010
Although it had never happened in the past of the FIFA cup but we all know that south africa is good at making new history
I know people who did a tender for the stadiums of the 2010 and the tender was 3months later than the set date awarded.
I mean with this attitude south africa will not host the 2010.
And if you go and look at our crime rate and yet the government says that they are doing something about it, but can any of you see changes?
Then there is the Gautrain which we all know will never be finished on time maybe it will be finished by 2020. All the big countries like china, japan etc will set a project like the Gautrain to be finished in 10 years and keep in mind they will not waste 5years waiting for building materials etc
Then there is our infrastructure and our transport there is the unsafe taxi's or buses that falls apart and the highways that is not capable to handle our daily traffic what to say about the 2010 traffic
Our government is turning a blind eye and in the end they all going to blame it on apartheid, they will find a reason
And in the end it all the white engineers, builders etc to help them out of the mess they put themselves in. |

ooof! once again a stinger question!
alf, somehow i think sa will host it.
HOWEVER, it is becoming increasingly clear that the chances of it being a success are worse than a f@rt's chance in a hurricane.
i'll be watching the world cup 2010, from the safety of my armchair in my new country where i'm emigrating to. |

Im a South African.
Not unless the crime, corruption and just plain nastiness can be reduced we will not do it well.
South africa is a wonderfull place, the wildlife and culture is amazing. But there is way to much litter stuffing up everything everywhere. And just DONT talk about crime. The crime level is 8 times higher than other places.
I cant walk in my garden without a alarm.
And I dont know how many of you have heard of Jacob Zuma? Or Jackie Selebi...
Well Zuma might be running for president and look what he did...
And Selebis the cheif (former I think) of Police.
If you dont know... check it out.
Criminals WILL take advantage of tourists and the hype sourounding the games.
The authorites must pull themselves togethor, the population must help stop crime and if all that happens in 3 years... who knows... we must just pull it off... |

On BBC1 this morning Blatter said he is looking for a plan B and even a plan C. I don't know what the discussion is about.
He never said they were going to move it but they would be prepared to.
I read this that they were not convinced that SA would be ready.
To the one that said you should do something about your crime. Well this is just a joke, I don't write about that any more because some of you argue that it does not exist and you can't fix what is not broke. Until you admit about the crime you actually encourage it.
What New Zealander will go to a country that has as many murders in one day as they have in a year? |

Sure, but of all the things to pour money in to in a country like South Africa, why a sport? Especially one that notoriously brings really violent crowds? |

He he he he! Alfie boy, you like getting slapped around don't you?
As a South African I feel proud and honored hosting the FIFA 2010 here. Think about it, having it in SA is already a pat on the shoulder seen as it is not hosted in any other African Country or European Country for that matter. That already says a lot about THIS country.
A lot of money goes into an "event" like this. Millions if you don’t know this. If we weren't the appropriate country for this do you honestly think that we would have been chosen as the strictly speaking CHOSEN COUNTRY? I don’t think so.
I work in the sport world, and I know what hectic time it is at only having an international series. Now I’m not even talking about a world cup! It is security, policing, medics, staff, parking, extra electricity, protocol, the selling of tickets, VIP’s, food for the spectators, drinks, practicing times, press, stadium control, parking, public transport, just to name the little thing that needs attention, THE LIST GOES ON!!!!
Having a World Cup is not just opening a stadium, telling people to come and watch a circus to which I know you’re going to reply saying that our World Cup will be a circus….
You know Alfie boy, I don’t think that anybody realize what it is, having International teams coming to a stadium. The financial implications not even to mention emotional and physical implications of the staff members are enormous!!! Until you’ve worked a whole World Cup Series at an International Council or stadium hosting a World Cup match for which ever sport, Shut Your Mouth!!!! |

Exactly where in that web link does it say anything about Blatter looking for alternative venues for the 2010 world cup?
It doesn't because he's not. The next World Cup will be in South Africa. End of.
The only thing it mentions is the idea that neighbouring African countries be utilised in some way as a location for some of the pre-tournament training camps. Brazil might well be more at home acclimitising to the area in Portuguese-speaking Mozambique. It sounds quite a sensible idea. I'm sure the South Africans will do an excellent job. |

Yes South Africa can host it and you know it.
Cricket World Cup, Rugby World Cup and the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
We have done it before and we will do it again and you know it.
Remember FiFA is not influence by counties' political situations which it why FiFA has more members then the UN.
Example some western countries tried to get Iran out of the 2006 World Cup but FiFA refused.
Look alot of people doubted Athens and they did it so the are always going to be doubters.
If Fifa chooses another country then they will have to pay us for all the costs.
Your link? read it again.
Look Mate
It's Africa's turn the world cup has to be in Africa and Blatter even anyone who is a serious campainer for the next FiFA president knows that if they take it away they will lose the Africa, Asia, Oceaner and the America's Vote so yes they control football but they need our votes and they will do anything for it so in a way we do have some power.
I get the sense that you want SA to lose the world cup and I can't work out why? |
