No they could not survive without the Aid and Assistance from My Country America... back in 1962 when Eygpt got long range bombers from Russia that could reach Israel, America supplied Israel with Tanks & aircraft... which started a cycle of Support of Israel. in 1987 Congress passed a law that allowed Israel Israeli industries to compete equally with NATO countries and other close U.S. allies for contracts to produce a significant number of defense items. Israel also began to receive $3 billion in grant economic and military assistance. I think that if anyone uses Nuclear first it will be Israel... they are trigger happy killing machines. I don't like my taxes supporting them.

The United States is not a charity organisation and it is in alliance with Israel for a reason.

Israel serves some of the benefits of the USA in the region. In return Israel is taking advantage of that too.

In case this alliance breaks for some reason, Israelis will find other parties to ally with.

And yes, as the post above states, in 1967, the USA was not backing Israel. USA started supporting Israel after 1967.

Quotations from the Bible aside - which I believe is best in dealing with political questions - I don't know if it could survive without the massive infusion of money (both government and private) and arms from America.

That said, I believe that if it is meant to survive, then it will, with or without public or private help from America.

Israel is used by the USA to keep the Middle East a war zone. The USA give both sides the arms to do it. Israel is a war zone for more than 59 years peace is the missing link in the Middle East. If you do not know that fact by now you are day dreaming. Look at the Iraq war or the next war with Iran Israel is used in both wars.

Countries do not cease to exist "simply because they are outnumbered". By that logic, in every war the most populous side should win. Israel has overcome tremendous odds in every war it has fought, so I personally am not ready to throw in the towel with regards they're capability to survive. Could Israel survive without any allies at all? I doubt it, from a realistic point of view. No country has really stood alone in the face of a multi-pronged attack and lived to tell the tale. But then again, Israel's done some amazing things and has shown remarkable prowess at sticking around.

P.S. Why exactly would the US be trying to keep the middle east a war-zone? What could the benefit possibly be? War drives oil prices up, not down, so I don't see any feasible reason for this to be the US's strategy. Maybe it's time to take responsibility and not just blame the US?

Israel likes to portray itself as the poor little defenceless child in the playground who is always beaten up & picked on by the bullies !

Well, this " child " has had the backing of the most powerful country on earth & benefited from its' military technology for decades!

Then it has the gall to use this technology against its'
smallest & least powerful neighbour in a most one sided , gutless display of viscious bullying we have seen for years , that is apart from what it is doing to the Palestinian territories .

What do the people of Israel honestly expect in return for this behaviour ....to win the hearts & minds of the rest of the world ?

Israel would survive, it does not require US aid for it to exist. It has the most powerful military in the Middle East and is the only state in that region with nuclear weapons, not to mention its economic capabilities and capacity for scientific and technological discovery and research, plus the high levels of education amongst Israelis. All these ensure that as a nation like any other it is completely capable of existing on its own.

However, what may not survive is the protection from criticism that Israel enjoys in the US, nor would Israel have as much money from the US (plus a number of other advantages, such as access to US military and security secrets) which it can do whatever it wants with, with little accountability. Israel would probably have to deal with the issue of Palestine upfront once and for all.

America will not survive in the Middle-East if it wasn't for Israel! Read up a little more before you pass judgment on this comment.

Americans in general are EXTREMELY naive toward other nations. Israel is being crucified by the general guy on the street here for the sake of the Palestinians and god knows what else - the forming of the Israeli State, yes... Although America publicly goes on record about Israel protecting itself, they do SELL them F-16's and all the other 'Made in America' goodies, because they realize if it is time to scramble out of Iraq, well Israel will help them to land their planes etc.

Who do you think the US is bargaining on to take on Iran? Themselves? Grow up! There are way too much going on in the US already because of Afghanistan and Iraq, they can not afford it [refer to last nights news on TV about the National Guard that's out of vehicles and equipment and the dollar that's diving].

Israel has a proud and strong military. They survived till now, they will keep going on.

Israel COUDN"T survive without the US and also Britain, because these countries support it both economically and militarily. ok, Israel does make it's own weapons NOW, but the US and Britain are still watching their back...

The money that the United States gives to Israel makes up less than 5% of its defense budget.

Considering the fact that Israels greatest war victory in 67 was done with out American aid and without American weapons.

You add on to the fact that Israel now has a peace treaty with Jordan and Egypt meaning they do not have to fear an assault from all sides as well as the fact Iraq is not interested in attacking Israel.

That means that Israels only enemy that can actually attack and topple Israel is Syria.

So if your asking if Israel can take out Syria without any help.. the answer is that it could be done in less than a month.

As for size... you would be amazed how technology and determination can over come size.

That is a question we will not have to consider. The USA stands up for the right of Israel to protect it's citizens and it's very right to exist.

They did ok in 1967, destroying all Arab countries armies even when the Arabs had soviet backing. The world expected the Arabs to destroy Israel which was outnumbered massively but Israel won on every front.
