WOW, you have some good thoughtful answers here.
I have always thought that the Iranian people had no reason at all to hate Israel or wish to see the Israelis obliterated from the world. Some of the answerers above, who know more about the Iranian people than I do, confirm my belief that the average Iranian person is concerned about his livelihood and his family - he or she bears no ill will against Israelis. I like the answer than most care more about soccer (football).

Historically, the Iranians are Indo-European people - - as are the people of Europe and most of us here in the U.S. In ~ 538 BC the Persian ruler Cyrus the Great released Jewish people from the "Babylonian captivity" and allowed them to return to Judah. Of course Iran was not Islamic then. It is the strong Shi'ite Islamic influence in the government of Iran that seems to make Israel an enemy. Perhaps the average Iranian is more human and less the religious zealot.

I try to teach my college students that radical anything has led to wars and needless destruction of people. Radical Christians behaved barbarously during the crusades from 1099 to the end of the 1200s. These medieval Christians may have taught the leaders of Islam to behave barbarously and intolerantly - though the radical Shi'ite "Assassins" from Syria were already perpetrating suicide murders in the 1100's. Radical Christians caused the suffering of the Inquisition. Radical Muslims are causing needless deaths today - killing fellow Muslims as well as Christians and Jews.

I can never understand killing someone for their religious beliefs - especially when these religions all preach peace and good behavior for righteous living.

Another thought is that Iran shares no border with Israel. The state of Israel took no land from Persian people. The Palestinian people who were dispossessed are Semitic peoples - - yes, the Jewish people and the Arab peoples are both Semitic peoples. Maybe inter-tribal animosity is greater than hatred between two different subgroups of people. Israel is no threat to the average person in Iran. Israelis do not hate Iranians.

I would bet that most Iranians have a live and let live philosophy towards Israel.

Oh please, this is not a good question.. Im Iranian and I assure you that we have no problem with Israelis, its just that our government has problem with Israel's government...
Us people are the same, no matter from Israel or Iran...
I for one really dont like Israel GOVERNMENT, as I dont like my government neither but I like Israelis and I have 2 firends from there..

Most Iranians don't care one way or the other for Israel or "Palestinians" they are concerned with there own country. I met many Iranians who like Israel because they hate Arabs, others because of historical reasons(cyrus the great) but I heard plenty of them also speak against Israel too, so swings either way

Iranian press and media won't cover this. (Western media didn't either, for that matter.) So most will never hear of it. I feel the same way. There are many many decent Israelis in Israel. Peace groups, humanitarian groups, human rights groups, etc. A vice president to Ahmadinejad said that Iran is friends with the Israeli people. (Got him into trouble but he wasn't sacked.)

If they did hear it, I'm sure they would feel the same way about Jews. In fact, there's a well known 'Jewish hospital' in Tehran that offers help to everyone. Everyone is thankful. Most Iranians don't associate Jews with Israel.

As for Iranians attitude towards Israel. They certainly don't 'hate' Israelis but still support Palestine. As RJ said, we're are more concerned about our own lives. Unemployment, inflation, constant government intervention in people's personal life is what Iranians pay most of their attention to, not the Palisrael conflict.

When I went to Tehran, it seemed like they are too concerned about their daily lives, the women about covering as little hair as possible while still not getting caught by the modesty police, the men about their soccer (Iranians love soccer), to worry about us. The only news websites that open are the ones with a distinctly pro-Iran bias, so it's a pretty safe bet that no Iranians will be reading about this.

There are quite a few decent Iranian people who have no problem with Israel but the government is no better than the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century. The people of Iran should rise up and toss out Ahmadinejad and his terrorist gang.

Doubt most Iranians detest Israel but being they live in a dictator ship are powerless to fight the system..Hope we or Israel doesn't have to nuke them killing many innocent people..But think it'll happen sooner than most think..

What most people don't know, is that outside the arab world, The persian are somewhat respectful of the Jews. They know that Jews are closer to Persians then they are to arabs. Many iranians also hate their gov't, especially the college students. They love video games too, it is just unfortunate they can't afford an 8800gt and therefore cannot play me in COD4 lol. Iranian gov't threatens any opposition to them. I have had iranian friends many times, arab friends never. Arabs just don't trust me, Iranians seem to trust me because they hate arabs.

As for you my kismete I believe that under different circumstances you could have joined one of them jew-humanitarian groups that care about justice and freedom being served in israel.

I am the first one to congratulate the jews when they are doing the "obvious".
In my country these things happen almost everyday.
But anyway it's a good sign that you being jewish sat down and wrote about something that does not involve hate or killing.
