Do you think the Israeli occupation is the root causes to the Middle East conflict?

To begin with there is no occupation. Israel is not the root cause to any middle east conflict.
The problem is thousands of years old and has a religious under tone the world wants to ignore.

Even if every Jew was expelled from Israel and the Arabs were given every inch of the middle east the conflict would still exist.
You see--if that happened--there would be no Palestine since both Jordon, Syria and Egypt would lay claim.

This is only one of many issues that would arise.
But Thank God the above scenario will never happen and the world can continue to delude its self into thinking it can bring a solution to ancient problems.

It is a very complex problem. Let us hope that peace comes.

The Israeli occupation only occurred in 1967.

There were problems in that area long before that and several wars that had nothing to do with Israel, just to name a few in the last 50 years

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Yemen_Civil_War
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_War

So in short the Israeli occupation and the Israeli-Arab conflict is only a part of a much more complicated picture.

Maybe if the Middle East had more democracy there would be more peace

justiceonthemove
I THINK YOU HAVE JUST ANSWERED THE QUESTION.
EVENTS CHANGE ACCORDING TO TIME AND ENVIRONMENTS.
SINCE I WAS BORN AND GROW UP, WHEREVER AND WHENEVER I SEE OR HEAR THE WORD ISRAEL THEN THERE MUST BE KILLINGS. PALESTINE SUFFERED ENOUGH.

sabrinapuppy
I think it DEFINITELY is a major part of the problem but even greater is our current government (and other's around the world) creating an US vs. THEM complex. As long as we push our agenda upon the Middle East I don't think anything will ever be solved until we open up communication with all middle eastern countries.

It all started back after the WWI under the british and the french mandate to the most of ME countries and regions, and israel is a residue of that era, lets face it unless the british mandate on Historical Palestine there wouldn`t be any Israel today right?

Ofcourse ! im egyptian and we love americans and yet we dislike the gouvernment for supporting Israel , we don't have any problems of a country supporting another , but let they support each other is something good not killing people and taking over their land

Do you think the Arab occupation of Israel is the root cause to the Middle East conflict?

I think that the root cause of all the problems in the Middle East is all the people that live there wear their under ware too tight and they forget to wear hats when they go out in the Sun. I think that these people all must be members in good standing of the Truce of the Month Club. Lets face it arguing is their hobby. If that's what they enjoy doing who are we to interfere.

Claymore Thomas III
I think the way the jews think is the "root causes" for all of our grief on our planet.
Look what they done to us, the Americans, son!
They have been stealing from our old folks for years now!
One jew was arrested and later released because all the judges are jew!
Madoff is the name .
Some other jews destroyed our economy a couple of months back, remember?
Millions of hard working Americans are without jobs because of them jews.
We are easy pray for the Chinesian Commies right now, you hear?
As a proud American dude I can honestly say to you son, that them jews are bad for America.
So yes. The jews are the root of everything going bad in our society. Thomas

No, what to do with the refugees that will be expelled from neighboring Arab lands once a Palestinian State is declared is the main stumbling block.

It is one of the main reasons, although I do not believe there would be any lasting peace even if Israel returned all the occupied lands to her neighbors. Arab and Israeli/American interests in the region will always be in conflict.

sevenstar
duh...YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rich N
Yes Israel must end its occupation of other people land.
