No, not unless it is absolutely rotten- then it goes to make compost. I hate throwing food away for precisely the reasons you have mentioned. Here in the UK people are so wasteful of food, it is scandalous! I throw stale bread out for the birds too. From being young I was always taught to be grateful for the food I had and never to waste it, especially when other have so little. |

No we don't. We recycle the food. We have an earthworm "farm" that we put all the old food in. they convert the food into compost and a liquid fertilizer.
Works like a dream. |

We don't throw food away.
Most of our meals that we make are Dinners as breakfast and Lunch are consumed at the office (besides weekends).
The wife and I have made a concious effort to try and make dinner a small meal as we beleive that it is healthier to eat less just beofre you sleep and rather have a large breakfast.
Since we have been eating smaller dinners we have not had to throw anything away - and we seem to be a lot healthier too.
We find that we also keep an eye on the perishables in the fridge and ensure that they get used before they spoil.
To sum it up, very little of our food is actually wasted. |

No, i never through any food away - both my neighbors have dogs, so any left overs, bones or food we don't want to eat, i give to them for their dogs |

I normally throw out food if its spoilt, I cant really lower a being by giving them something rotten that could lead to their death. We, by now, know how much is enough and cook that much. If its a lot, we take it to work for lunch. I know how it's like to go to bed on an empty stomach, so believe me I am not big on wasting. I appreciate every little bit I have. To a point that I always insist on doggy bags if I never finish my food. Its also always good to know a few people on the streets you can always give stuff to when you havent finished it. |

Yes, I do throw food away because it is uneaten, spoiled, etc. However, when I do it, I do think about the people in the world that unfortunately does not have enough to eat. |

I have only thrown food away when it is bad.
I still feel terrible for letting it go bad in the first place, as I have seen poverty and starvation first hand. |

Nope, I have a meal planner on my computer and therefore only buy exactly what I need for the coming week. It even calculates how many individual apples or bananas I need to buy. When shopping, I make sure that the products still have a long shelf life left. So if I don't eat them in time, they can fit into the next weeks meal plan. |

They wouldn't get the food anyways even if i do throw it away, It wouldn't get to them ontime before it had to be thrown away anyways if i have already cooked it, although I DO donate to my local food pantry. I throw rotten food away because it was be horrible to give a poor person rotten food anyways, and sometimes left overs that are pointless to save, otherwise I keep and eat all leftovers, because i think it's pointless to waste my hard earned money, |

I very rarely throw food away but if I did it would not bother me one iota how many starving people there are in the world, it is not my problem, I didn't make any of those starving children so why should I feel guilty? |

Never ! food is never thrown by me intentionally. If by chance its expiry date comes and the item remains un-consumed then unwillingly I have to waste it so that my mistake none consumes it.
In a buffet, its preferred to take little and have it again rather than waste it later on.
Thanks for a nice question ! |

I normally aim to eat food the day after. But often it never seems to go that way with take-aways and not knowing when you'll be hungry.
After the second day, I normally do throw it away. |

only if it gets old.... which that never really happens because i have a two year old son who loves to eat.... not over eat but you know what i mean :) and seriously i've been thinking the past few days about how many children there are straving and all of these people, and just sad, especially if you have a child i feel bad when he doesn't eat as much as i'd like him to.... i try to help out people as much as i can though...... |

No, between my hubby and son we don't have anything left. I have started buy less more often that way fruit and veggies don't go off. The only food that gets "thrown away" are the skin and outer leaves etc. They go to our compost heap.
I agree with the previous posts that too much is thrown away. Most people prepare way too much food. We consume too much, that is why obesity is on the rise. |

Because they might be rotten or maybe children eat them and they did not finish them and there is no way you can eat them again |

Hello Zim,
(Glad to see you back, I missed you)
Yes, but never at home; UNLESS HAVE TOO. I hate waste.
I throw food away, with thoughts in my head; thinking this could feed a village of people; where I work, and WE CAN NOT GIVE IT AWAY, AND IF WE TAKE SOME HOME THAT IS CALLED," STEALING!!!!" We will get fired.
Sad, sick, and just disgusted with the rules.
My father used to all say: Waste not, want not. |

No, food does not get wasted here. If it is rotten, mouldy or turned sour, then it goes into the compost or the bin. We eat twice on one dish if there is enough, or the rest gets frozen for a lazy day. If there are still left-overs after 2 days, the dogs get it.
I am well aware of the starving people in the world. My father seized every opportunity to remind us about that when we were young. He used to tell us that the Germans ate the carrot leaves because they were so hungry. Imagine my surprise when I got to Germany, and saw how people waste food, chuck day old bread in the bin, flush pasta down the loo etc!! |
