Former President Carter was right to engage Hamas. If one doesn't bring someone into a discussion, it's impossible to make any headway in calming a situation.
As to whether Israel wants peace, I honestly don't know. Having part of my life in Lebanon, and after seeing what they did to the country, I tend to doubt it. |

The price Israel will pay for peace today is very high. They have to give back the occupied land since 1967. at the moment, there is no need for that.
They know that in the very near future they will regret it and may cry for peace.
They have no choice but to seek peace. |

I don't care what israel wants.
I just want the US to stop giving to those jews 3.5 Billion of hard earned American dollars.
I do not want to give to those super-rich jews my $375 of my income annually, that's all.
There ain't no other country taking for 60 continuous years so much American money.
We need better schools and Medicare here in the states after all. |

I agree 100% with La Mexicana...you Go, Chica! :)
Israel is, as we speak, building several hundred new homes in settlements in the Occupied West Bank, illegally, and against UN mandates. This doesn't sound like an attempt to make "peace" to me.
As an American, I back Jimmy Carter one THOUSAND percent. The d!ckheads on this board who think he was a poor president would do well to recall that he kept us OUT of a war. They're just p!ssy because Carter brought Israel's many shortcomings to the forefront of American politics with his book...let's see, HOW many weeks did it stay on the bestseller lists? :p
Americans are finally waking up...about time! |

No. The Palestinians want peace. That is why they are willing to negotiate and the zionists are not. |

the question is not if israel wants peace?
it is
===
do the big powers wants peace in our region?
who is big powers?US France UK ger and (RUSSIA)
take lebanon example 2006,go straight israel lost a big war but whom against ?
some says 5000 battle man other says more but the maximum was 20 000 .
how westerns act
1 america was pushing israel to war,one more day,another day ,week so it went 33 days ,a war never israel faced before
2 some from the back seat drivers whispered to syria,now its your golden opportunity get in war and liberate your golan hights(the reading was not so)
3 the targits in lebanon were finished and they wanted another sort of pressure on lebanon ,so they want to tempt syria to war.
4 some destroyed targets in lebanon were hit again ,that there were no more targits to hit
result
====
the west send UN troopers
france
italy
germany
uk
and lately we see the us ships "call"
all these as german merakel said"we are here to protect israel"
so
how many of them is to protect palestinian?
i do not believe west wants peace in the region |

No. They don't even know how to respond to the idea. The very concept is alien to their reptile minds. |

No. Anyone who thinks so is merely deluding themselves. They want to shed blood daily and acquire more territory annually. Their agenda has nohing to do with peace; it never has and it never will. |

The answer to your question is - YES!
Israel wants peace. With the Palestinians and with Syria. The main problem is that they have no real partner to negotiate with. Can you really trust Hamas? The are in the list of terror organizations. Look at the agreement signed in Oslo, 1994, with Arafet - Israel gave "Fatach" guns, money - you name it, and it is all in use now against Israel.
Asad - this man is known for being very unstable - would you give him control over the highest place in Israel, from where he can fire rockets and control all the area (Like the Syrians did before 1967)?
The Israeli's want nothing more than peace, but the problem is the have to trust the other side , and the way things are today.. there is no one to trust. |

To answer the question yes;
Gypsy it is easy to see you didn't have to pay bills when Carter was president.
Carter is in a small group of presidents voted out after one term because of the damage he was doing to the economy of America. |

oh, please. hamas is the ones who don't want peace, who have vowed to destroy israel. carter is meeting with known terrorists.
like having a sitdown with bin laden.
i totally agree that everyone needs to talk with everyone. please let us know when hamas is willing to talk with israel, not just jimmy carter. |

Carter was a terrible President who lost in his bid for reelection because of the hostage crisis in Iran. The hostage crisis was due to the fact Carter allowed the Shah of Iran to come into the USA for medical treatment. Carter was despised by the Palestinians as well for the peace deal he brokered between Egypt and Israel which did nothing for them .Sadat and Begin paid with their lives because of the deal and Sadat is not remembered fondly by most Egyptians. They actually prefer Nasser like the poster here on Yahoo. To answer your question of course Israel wants peace but you, kamran, in my opinion do not want anything but an islamic world under shia law. |

Why do you think Israel had withdrawn from Gaza?
Why do you think it left fully equipped greenhouses for the Gazans to use? (and the Gazans did - as bases for launching rockets)
Why do you think Israel continue to supply Gaza with electricity even while Hamas is launching missiles at the power plant that supplies the electricity to Gaza? (talk about pissing into the well).
In Israel, the elected government promised to bring peace.
In the Palestinian authority, the elected government promised an armed struggle and no recognize Israel as a country.
What does THIS suggest? |
