hmmm, well he will provide interesting headlines over the 10 years, that's for sure, he is a happy go-lucky, sort of a black Forest Gump |

Biedronka

He spends more time in South Africa than Mbeki, probably has a better HIV programme, does not want to be life president, acknowledges that poor whites exist.
He will probably become president, but the most nb thing is that there is a strong opposition. |

Nope, not me.
However I know quite a number of people who practically worship the guy. I also just had a debate with a coleague of mine who says that she will probably vote for the ANC because there is no other alternative.
A lot of people who I've spoken to seem to think that all the other parties just don't have what it takes to run a country and as for the DA, well.. lets just say they want nothing to do with the fact that Apartheid might be brought back, if the DA wins! |

No, i for one agree with Helen Zille that it is not about the DA or the ANC, but about justice in SA or the power the ruling political party has. Archbishop Desmond Tutu was also spot on when he said he was ashamed of the fact that Zuma might be president, i hope he will not apologize .. why should he if he is just being honest. Instead of wasting tax payers money on phony trails, changing names, they should build houses, create jobs that will help combat crime. Can people in SA honestly expect other countries leaders to take anything we feel and say seriously when our justice and educational system is virtually non existent, with the name changes we don't even know where a place is .. and our leaders is criminals .... i don't think so, no |

Note: sorry I’m going to be longer than usual on Zuma or ANC in general.
Even though I don’t like Zuma, I have made attempts to get reliable information about him and the ANC. While it is good to get newspaper snippets about politicians in a transforming South Africa, I would urge people to read outside of that stream. Read both positive and negative writings about them from inside their own organisations and outside of that. Read academic writings also; lest we remain a nation of lazy whingers, who know nothing but gossip.
My information was obtained from pro and anti- Zuma camps in and outside the ANC. One of my sources is Zim$ whom those who know him here is 100% anti-Zuma and is entrenched in the ANC. I asked him to be fair and shelve his dislike of the man. And here we go:
The ANC decision to elect Zuma for President was a sober one. The debate had gone on informally for over ten years. It was started at the time when the ANC was discussing the post-Mandela leadership in 1997. There was careful thinking which resulted in the decision that Mbeki would succeed Madiba and after two terms Zuma would take over
The decision was based on the fact that the two were amongst most experienced and respected strategists, who had served together since the days of OR Tambo. Mbeki was primarily preferred as he would be able to focus on issues of transformation of the state machinery, because of his technical skills which the ANC believed the country needed at the time.
Zuma was elected to deputize and strengthen Mbeki’s leadership collective because of his excellent human relations, listening skills and capacity to unify. It was felt that, inevitably, Zuma’s leadership would be needed to refocus attention to the vision of the ANC to build a compassionate and caring society. His passion for education, rural development, fighting poverty and crime is legendary. It was felt that Zuma would further enhance the consultative character of the ANC once the transformation agenda was in place after Mbeki.
For many people Zuma represents the triumph of the human spirit of perseverance by virtue of the fact that he rose from the depth of grinding rural poverty to attain the level of national and international prominence as a confident yet self taught person. To some, this is a source of inspiration especially for the respect he commands in the continent and abroad. The recent visits to international investor forums have shown the high level of faith and his acceptability as a leader. Zuma may turn out to be one of the finest Presidents in the country. His rise to the top echelons of power has not erased Zuma’s touch with the ordinary people. No wonder so many feel well represented by him and do not share the skepticism often expressed in public discourse.
Those who know him well will attest that Zuma’s reputation is that of an honest and caring person and a committed leader who will go out of his way to help those less fortunate than himself. Despite the myriad of news reports condemning Zuma, many people have refused to buy into this image of corruption as it does not accord with their experience of the man. I would have loved him to go before the court to answer for his alleged corrupt nature and despite that he would not be doing so, I do not want to find him guilty. The system disappointed me but I cannot claim him guilty.
People who have only known about Zuma from the media do not understand how a man described in such horrible terms can be considered for such a high post. Yet those who know him do not accept that such a description refers to the leader they know so well.
Like many leaders Zuma is fallible. The saying goes humanum est errare (to err is human). Any perceived weaknesses are outweighed by his mature leadership style and the stability and spirit of friendship the country will enjoy under his leadership. His strength is his humility and welcoming style that inspires willingness to contribute to the positive achievement for the good of our country. The role of the leadership collective is to support the individual leader and enhance the best qualities.
South Africa was eternally blessed to have a leader like our beloved Madiba. We must also face up to the reality that there will only be one Madiba. Increasingly, thereafter our leaders will become more and more ordinary. Our task is to choose leaders and support them in their quest to fulfill the task that we elected them for.
The good thing about Zuma is that we all know his weaknesses, and many know his strengths. He’s therefore an open book to the country and the world. |

Very warm and friendly person.
Ask anyone. Even Tony Leon admitted it.
And you have got to be special to be President with only grade5 formal education. It means goals can be achieved. |
