60 years of endless wars and no peace dose not make you proud to be Israeli or Palestinian. |

"Palestinians remember five July days in 1948 when they lost everything — and the world didn't care."
I remember five February days in 2008 when the people of Sderot were being attacked hourly - and the world didn't care.
Do you remember that too? Or do you have selective memory? |

I think it is one man's synopsis of events based in the agendized research which he has done, in order to justify, in his ind, the mindless violence and slaughter perpetrated over the last 1300 years against indigenous Jews and other citizens of the area by their surrounding Arab neighbors. If you wish, i could go through his piece, charge by charge, and give substantiated historical answers which would deflate his logic. I could tell of partition in 1917 and the Arab insistence that all Jews be killed. I could show that accurate depiction of Deir Yassin -- which no reputable historian now sees as a massacre...and Lydda which was the site of terrorist activities against Jewish settlers for over 12 years before Independence.
Of course, that would be a waste of my time. others have responded to Tolan already...

a very biased and untruthful article.
israel withdrew from gaza. the gazans started firing rockets into israel, every day since then. if gaza wants a war, israel will certainly defend herself. the gazans were whining about the occupation for years, israel ends the occupation, and they start sending rockets in. morons. it's not about the one israeli soldier, although, yes, it is a war crime that they are keeping him hostage.
and of course 48 is a lie. that's a funny one, actually, as egypt controlled gaza from 48 - 67. so who are the gazans complaining about for their terrible day in 48? egypt? hilarious. |

I think this article was infalmmatory and did only look at one side of the issue, however, I see no part of the article that is anti-semetic or anti-israel.
Just ebcause he deplores the actions of your coutnry does not mean he hates your people or your country. It's his view and under Democracy it is protected. So let the man say what he choses and if ti is refuse, then the world will easily see the refuse.
Not everything that doesn't agree with you hates you, nor is it an attack upon you. |

a huge number of palestinians left on there own will, being promised that the arab armies would demolish Israel, and they could move back!
It makes me proud of Israel that they defeated a number of enemy armies numerous times. I am not Israeli. |

It is a very myopic veiw of the Arab-Israeli crisis to say this is only regarding the safety of one solder. It very sad that someone a UC Berkeley would write such a naive story. You would expect better from a topnotched university then that.
Good Luck!!! |

It is interesting that the article does not mention that the order to kidnap these soldiers came from Nasrallah, who later admitted it was a mistake.
I LOVE how some people think it is OKAY to attack Israel and Israelis, but it is NOT okay for Israel to retaliate.
This is called a double-standard!!!! It is indeed the essence of Antisemitism....
UCB is very anti-Jewish and anti-Israel, and this one-sided article proves it... |

Yes, it does, actually.
It shows that Israel can defend herself.
We back down as a gesture of good will, and how does Palestine thank us? By sending in a few Kassam missiles and the occasional suicide bomber.
We are completely ready to call a truce, as we don't like to see people dying for no reason, by Palestine doesn't seem to want to co-operate.
All they have to do is recognised us as a separate entity, and we can start to resolve all the conflict.
But, no, they won't even do that, will they?

Talk about ridiculously one-sided. Some examples: refers to the Hamas elected ministers as 'members of a democratically elected government' without mention that in order to be consistent, that government perpetrated an act of war by invading Israel and kidnapping a soldier. In the case of war, arrests of democratically elected members is certainly appropriate. If instead we refer to Hamas as a terrorist organization, the arrest of high-ranking terrorists is warranted. Mentioning a 'menacing overflight' of Syria while failing to mention Syria's support for the attacks against Israel, Syria's harboring of terrorist leaders who plan and promote attacks against Israel, Syria's active participation in the smuggling of arms to terrorist groups that attack Israel and Syria's history of attacking Israel unprovoked. The school mentioned as being bombed was also a launching pad for rockets if memory serves correctly. The interior ministry mentioned had terrorist fighters and weapons in its interior. In short, if Hamas uses these establishments as war-bases, that's how they end up being treated.
The responsibility for the situation in Gaza does not rest only, or even mostly, on Israel's shoulders. The Palestinians brought Gaza down upon themselves, first by electing Hamas and then by sitting by contentedly as they seized total power there. Prior to these two events, Israel gave Gaza to the Palestinians unequivocally, to use and build up as they saw fit. Apparently they saw fit to install a militant terrorist government, and thus reaped what they have sown. There is no doubt that if a more moderate government was installed, one that believed in the precepts of compromise and peaceful co-existence, the situation in Gaza would be opposite of that today. There would be no "siege" and the Gazans would have a much better quality of life. The time is at hand for Palestinians and their supporters to recognize the neccessity of collective responsibility; the Palestinians must take their fates in their hands and desist in blaming everyone else for their ills. |

It is sound military strategy. The military response for kidnapping one soldier deters it from practical use by the enemy. Otherwise hundreds of soldiers would be in danger from this tactic.
The article does not lie, but it does deliberately paint the Arab contribution passively, with overt omission of the Arabs aggressive posturing during the time and the consequences therein. It is only called Al Nakba because they took a gamble and lost. Que sera sera.
Personally, my pride in Israel has nothing to do with government or politics or military accomplishments. But I don't see how we feel is any of your business. I don't plan on going anywhere else soon, just like I don't expect the Palestinians I know (many who came to the region only 100 years ago after Ottoman persecutions in Syria and elsewhere) to be leaving either. If we can get along on a personal level then peace is ultimately possible, but these whitebread liberals writing from half a world away can kiss my jewish blochus. When the extremists get tired then governments can talk, whether it takes 100 years or 1000, I really don't care. Meanwhile I pray that Israel continues to remain strong against our enemies. |

Hey Localo, I found another one, dig this dude:
Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves ... politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves... The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country.
