Emergency...Is this a "ceasefire"?

I have just downloaded an emergency email from one of our regular contributors,a young mother in the Gaza. It was posted via her cell phone at 6:34 pm. Permit me to quote: "we had to evacuate the house,we r under heavy mashine-gun fire from apatche nd missiles of f16. we r locked up n the staire room no windows. the r is strang smell n the air prbly gun powder. Adel was terified but i put him 2 sleep. pray 4 us."

When was this so-called truce declared? Does this show us how much value to attach to the words and promises of a nation of brutes and liars?

Will those of you with decency pray for kind and gentle woman and her 3-year-old son?
Additional Details
This is our own Dalia. She is apparently alone with her three-year-old son. She is 25. She holds a major in French literature; her husband is a surgeon. There is supposedly a ceasefire. Then why is she in a horrifying and life-threatening situation?

We all should know by know that anything said by the Israeli government is a lie and the media just spreads those lies around like fire and expects everyone to believe it. Does Israel want us to think they have souls now because they called for a ceasefire after killing thousands of innocent people? Screw them! We should all pray for this woman and all the other people suffering in Palestine.

i am so sorry..but the questions have no real answers every ones answer will very.
but i will pray...

Bahira
I remember Dalia, she hasn't posted much since Dec. 27th but I think she had a few questions up just last week. Is the time on her email EST? if it is,it sounds like the zionists are trying to get in some last-minute blood-letting before they call it a day.

No,you cannot take the word of these zionist creatures. I will pray for her all night.

i am shocked,simply shocked.

Cool Breeze
As noted the truce was declared this afternoon, effective 7 p.m. She is in a very dangerous situation. No,I would not attach much value to any "commitment" proceeding from the zionist regime. As Jesus said to the rabbis, "You're father is not my Father. Your father is the father of lies."

Certainly she is in my prayers. If you hear from her further please post it immediately.

If this our Dalia, she is not a "Hamas militant". I cannot believe the stupidity of some of these zionist responses, although their cruel-mindedness does not amaze me. It never has. I've learned to expect it.

Like most British people the plight of civilians in Gaza: terrorised, ripped apart by indiscriminate bombing, abandoned by world leaders to the Israeli jackals is heart rending. Many churches in Britain have led prayers for the dreadful suffering of Gazans.

No there is no ceasefire - only another Israeli ploy to save face having LOST again in Palestine:-

Lost the battle (Hamas still fighting back).

Lost the fragile moral support Israel may have had now their
brutal massacres have been shown to the world;

Lost Israeli humanity as the bloodthirsty baying for more and more and more blood from 90% of the Israeli people has shaken decent people around the world to the core.

2 Israeli's accidentally killed , Very minimal damage by Hamas' ineffective rockets yet 5000 hospitalised and over 1000 human beings blown away in Gaza.

Hamas now commands great international respect and support for it's attempt to find a way out of the concentration camp Israel corralled their people into.

Israelis remember you may kill the children of Gaza but their brothers and sisters still rise up and rout the cowardly IDF with little more than stones and righteousness.

Sam
When was the last time the leaders of Israel spoke the truth?
God bless.

My reaction to the ceasefire announcement was that it was nothing but a mere publicity stunt. But at this moment my anger is overwhelmed by compassion for this poor woman and her child. The ceasefire - for what little is it evidently worth - is in effect. I think it is time for decent Americans to begin deluging the "Israeli" embassy with angry phone calls and emails.

Very angry.

Galahad
Perhaps we could ask our Jewish participants not to respond; this is neither the time nor the place for more examples of their cruelty and indifference to suffering.

She sounds like she is trapped; I don't where she is supposed to flee to,nor do I appreciate the idiotic suggestion that she should "fight". As to the ceasefire,Olmert announced it this afternoon. All IDF activity was to cease at 7 pm. EST. Check Yahoo News on that: "Israel declares Unilateral Gaza cease-fire" by Matti Friedman and Ibrahim Barzak, Associated Press Writers.
I am utterly appalled. By all means I will pray for her and her little boy; I wish to God I could more than pray.

She is in this situation because anything verbal or written that emanates from the Israeli government is anything but lies, lies, lies and still more lies.

The truce is on,this is yet another crime against humanity. Those swine in Tel Aviv should be hung as war criminals.

Of course I will pray for her. I hope she and her son make it through somehow.

Im sorry xeno but if my family or my life was in jeopardy the last thing i would do is email one of my buddies on yahoo answers.

I dont believe that dalia is in Gaza,I do however think she is smart enough to use one of her other accounts to keep up appearances .

But hey maybe I'm wrong its unlikely but possible and if so i would do anything i could to help her and her family my email is landeaux18@yahoo.com

Hi Zeno,

At this stage there has been reports of Hamas fighters still not abiding by the ceasefire.

Let us hope that peace will come to Gaza soon!

According to Yahoo News there is indeed a ceasefire:
JERUSALEM – Israel declared a unilateral cease-fire Saturday in its 22-day offensive that turned Gaza neighborhoods into battlegrounds and dealt a stinging blow to the Islamic militants of Hamas. But Israeli troops will stay in the Palestinian territory for now and Hamas threatened to keep fighting until they leave.

In announcing the cease-fire, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel had achieved its goals and more.

"Hamas was hit hard, in its military arms and in its government institutions. Its leaders are in hiding and many of its men have been killed," Olmert said.

Israel launched the offensive on Dec. 27 to stop years of rocket fire from Gaza at southern Israeli towns. But the rockets did not stop coming throughout the assault. Militants fired about 30 rockets into Israel on Saturday, eight of them around the time Olmert spoke.

-your question sounds pretty bogus; if you were in this situation, would you be emailing and texting your Yahoo acquaintances???

Anyway; this ceasefire will undoubtedly give Hamas time to rearm and get ready for the next round of fighting. After all, Hamas leader Dr Al-Zahar stated his "dreams of hanging a huge map of the world on the wall at my Gaza home which does not show Israel on it..."

Gaza strikes ahead of truce vote

Israel's military has carried out 50 air strikes in Gaza overnight as its cabinet prepares to vote on a proposal for a unilateral ceasefire.

Palestinians say a tank shell hit a UN school in northern Gaza, killing at least two people sheltering there. Israel says it is checking the report.

The head of the UN Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa) said he was "ashamed" civilians were not being protected.

Hamas said it would ignore any truce if its conditions were not met.

A spokesman for the militant group, Osama Abu Hemdan, told AFP news agency: "As long as it [the Israeli military] remains in Gaza, resistance and confrontation will continue."

Egypt has been mediating between Israel and Hamas in a bid to secure a truce.

Ahead of the Israeli cabinet meeting, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

NO CEASEFIRE IN PLACE YET

Rocket attacks

Israel's security cabinet will vote on Saturday evening on whether to declare a ceasefire, after its government said it thought "significant progress" had been made at talks with Egyptian mediators in Cairo.

Israeli warplanes bombed Gaza before dawn on Saturday

Under the Egyptian proposal, fighting would stop immediately for 10 days and Israeli forces would remain in Gaza while the border crossings into the territory would remain closed.

For its part, Egypt would, with international help, try to shut down weapons smuggling routes on its boundary with Gaza and discussions on opening the crossings would take place at a later date.

Hamas insists any ceasefire must involve Israeli troops withdrawing from Gaza and an immediate lifting of the Israeli blockade. Hamas officials are expected to attend further talks on Saturday in Cairo.

Israel is still coming under rocket attack from militants in Gaza

On Friday Palestinian militants in Gaza reportedly fired more than 15 rockets at southern Israel, leaving five Israelis wounded.

Israel's main objective in Operation Cast Lead is to end Gaza militants' ability to fire rockets at Israel and stop them smuggling through tunnels from Egypt.

The vote is tonight.

John L(R-PA)
Was there a ceasefire agreement? I dont think there was. and even so, Do you believe Hamas would abide? I do not enjoy the mainstream media's interpretation of Israel. Now I understand that Israel is pushing a harsh regiment against Hamas, but they are giving full warning to the People in Gaza. Hamas is a terrorist organization and Israel deserves to be free from terror. the Jes have had to put up with this since the beggining of time, even longer than the African American struggle. now that they have the measn to protect and defend themselves, they are mocked and made to look terrible. they deserve peace from rocket fire as much as anyone else, and if they have to fight for it, so be it.
