Enough! Would you leave the Expats alone!? |
They are dying a sad slow death being away from home! Many of them are pumping and sending as much money as they possibly can to South Africa in order to keep the family going. I am sick and tired of all the finger pointing and accusations. If they had no hope or dreams they would not bother and spend their money on less important things.
For many families, this is the only reason why they manage to tread water, even if only barely.
As if we did not have enough problems, now we turn on one another! F’n great!
I am in daily contact with my family. Follow everything going on as best I can. Drink up every documentary on SA. Try desperately to keep myself informed. And recently managed to spend five months at home.
Why do you imagine that the fact that we are not living in South Africa, takes away our right to discuss it! We all want it to work and we contribute as much as we possibly can. Additional Details Don't believe for one moment that we wouldn't rather be home! |

MC - that is such a racist comment!! Everyone has a right to be safe.
Part of the problem is a lack of transparency from the govt regarding stats. People living in suburbia feel as though the skottiens target their homes, but lots of robberies, rapes etc occur in townships and in informal settlements.
The expats are obviously homesick - visiting sites like this. Sorry Bru, enjoy the pounds and dollars!! |

I am also a South African living in Germany. We fled off our little farm because of the crime, and because my husband is just too white, it would have been very difficult to get a job in the town. Our only alternative was to leave, bankrupt, farmless, homeless, but with a lot of hope that alles gaan regkom so that we could return, even if it is only when we are pensioners.
We care a lot about South Africa, have family and friends there. We don´t trash South Africa. We are concerned. Our wish is for South Africa to come right for everyone, so that we can all be proud of South Africa forever!! |

I could not agree with you more. and also with Cakes, we left because of the violence, but my concern for SA will never stop, and I will never stop fighting for what I believe. WHICH IS....WHITE SOUTH AFRICANS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO CRIME FREE DEMOCRATIC SA, THAN ANY BLACK OUT THERE. IT IS OUR COUNTRY AS WELL. WE ARE ENTITLED TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITY JOBS, AND CRIME FREE LIFE...
Even though I do not ever foresee returning, I will never stop supporting white South Africans that are stuck there..... |

Amen to that!
If only people realize! Yes, I am staying here for my son and his safety, but my next big driving force is the fact that I can do more for my family from here than what I can do when I am there.
That does not mean I do not miss them, that I do not miss my country and it's friendly people, that I am not desperately concerned about all that is going on there.
Sometimes it simply feels as if you don't have a place where you belong. Here you will always be seen in a way as the outsider, yet now even South Africans start seeing you as not one of them. Not worthy of an opinion, because you are not "brave" enough to stay and fight for your country.
I would not change my decision to live in the UK easily, but as you said, if only we are not being made to feel as if we are not part of SA. |

Opinionated me is currently job shopping globally... I know what you are saying, just ignore them. Off course you have the right to have an opinion AND share that opinion. No matter where in the world you are, you are still South African. And I know what you mean by saying it's not easy, I have also been away for long periods and I have many friends who live and work abroad... it's not easy.
(And to the brave ones like yourself I would also like to thank you for the wonderful reputation you carry globally about South Africans! Today the whole world knows that South Africans are hard workers.) |

I agree with you. My family get treated like royalty when i visit SA. I take them to restaurants and buy them things they could never afford. They in turn think we are stinking rich when the fact is we live in a ex-council house not in a very nice area and do all the phoning , e-mailing etc as they cannot afford to and most of the time they can only send me e.mails after 7 in the evenings. I am still a staunch South-African , speak Afrikaans when i can and their are things i am grateful for in the Uk . Everytime i walk with my dogs in the local parks or forests i think of how much my Mom etc would have loved having the freedom i have to walk without being harassed. But still, i miss South-Africa and i miss its people.:) |

I take my hat off for you guys living outside of South Africa. Just traveling for a week over-border make me long for South Africa, Family and friends. It can not be easy. My lips are sealed and I will not say anything to discredit any of you. I have seen on this exact forum the longing to South Africa and news from here. You hang in there and ignore the nasty words that comes your way. You know in your heart that you are doing the best for you and your family.
KEEP WELL AND COOL !!!! |

I agree with you completely I hate being told by people who don't even know me or my situation that I'm a "coward" or that I'm "running away" from the problems at home. I miss home so much it hurts, I miss my family, my friends my little house...
We are in the US on a rotation with my husband's company. And we are due to come home next year. We might extend and try to get our greencard so that our options are wide open for when we decide to have a family --that is our prerogative to decide what is best for our family.
We will come home one day, SA will always be home and we will always be interested in what is going on at home. We are entitled to our opinions. We are South African no matter where in the world we are. |

Actually I left SA 10 years ago. But I always keep up with the news there. I like this website http://dienuwesuidafrika.blogspot.com/
Its quite informational. I like where I live now, I could walk to and from school everyday, walk to the bakery. I walked home at like 10pm one night, and didn't feel worried. I really think everyone should immigrate from South Africa, if they can. I think alot of people can, but theyre too scared to lose what they have. We pretty much lost everything, but now we live in a nice little safe country. When we first came here, we laughed so much at the 6 oclock news, because we were so used tothe SA news with all the murders and crime, and we come here, and it's like, 1 murder, and accident, and then the rest of the 55 minutes is just about nothing. But of course I still like to identify as South African, if I can. Do people still living there really not like us for immigrating? Thats weird... Well, anyway, where I am, there's so many South African's that we even have a little festival every year, with live music, and boerewors, and African ornaments and stuff on sale at the markets. 10% of my highschool were S.Africans too. And really, please don't say I'm dying a sad slow death, I'm, really not. I dunno where you are that makes you die a sad slow death, but I'm certainly not. When you say things like that it makes people still living there scared to immigrate. |

There is indeed a website for expats in the world. It allows you to register and interract with people of the same culture of you in the city you live in.
The website is http://www.linkexpats.com |

People who live in glass house should not throw stones.
If the expats were not so hostile towards the SA and its citizen then maybe they wouldn't be getting all that.
Its seem as if the expats have made it their goal to trash SA at every opportunity they get and we as SA citizen will not stand for that. |

You complaint is selective and has exposed what some of you are thinking…….one answerer above, MC to be precise, says this; “WHICH IS....WHITE SOUTH AFRICANS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO CRIME FREE DEMOCRATIC SA, THAN ANY BLACK OUT THERE.â€â€¦..and you want us to just accept that? It is comments like this one that make some of us to tell some expats to go jump in the nearest lake……why would whites be entitled to safety and democracy more than me?.....and did you see how many thumbs up she received with her racist comment…wait and see me getting no less than ten before tomorrow and additional six tomorrow…..
*ADD**
Res....I always contend that inasmuch as it's odd for people who abondoned the country to start telling its citizens how to live, I accept that most whites left because there are limited prospects of them getting job...I've also stated that I wish the AA could have come to end now....it should by now have served its original purpose were it not because officials (appointed through AA in the first place) messed up through the laziness and ineptness......I also always say everybody (including non-SA citizens) have the right to say their say....as I equally reserve my right to respond to them.....
But Res, if people could for once in their lives be honest and stop playing to the galary....some of the people here are plain racist....the problem is that we are demonised if we raised that......if racism is directed to Blacks, plausible explantions are found......like with the posting by MC...she meant what she posted.......check her previous postings and see the pattern....... |

Jinne, MC, you sound 'kwaai verbitterd' nè? Please, MC, a lot of us don't need your sympathy or your kind of support. We are not "stuck" here, meisie, we are here because we want to be here. This is our country, you see? We would much rather be here than "stuck" in dreary, boring London |

You got up on the wrong side of the bed again.
No one ever mentions ex-patties.
For years black people were entitled to a decent life and did not get it. So now things have changed a bit and the people in power now will be as unhelpful to those they perceive were in the previous governments favour. That's human nature, its ugly and its never fair. |
