What a load of horse ****.
So easy for a liberal denialist to write a well phrased and eloquent letter, in true idealist manner, yet completely ignoring all the relevant facts while agreement flows in from the equally ignorant Proudly South Africans.
Where in his letter does he make reference to these facts:
1) 20 000 plus South Africans are murdered every year due to crime yet the ANC takes no meaningful action other than to dismantle the Scorpions and cover up for the corrupt Selebi
2) South Africa has the highest rape rate in the world, babies are often targets as are the elderly
3) Only 22% of S.A. school children feel safe in their schools and school violence is common
4) The fact that electricity shortage cannot be solved by getting off our "backsides" and is a direct result of AA and gross mismanagement by the ANC government, it will only worsen
5) S.A.'s beautiful scenery can no longer be enjoyed and it is common for foreign tourists to be raped, murdered and tortured, even at venues such as Table Mountain and the Kruger National Park
6) The Rand is in free fall
7) Inflation is spiralling
8) The S.A. government aligns themselves with terrorist states such as Iran, China, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Libya and Venezuela
9) Racism in the form of AA and BEE is openly practised by the ANC virtually ensuring the unemployed status of thousands of white South Africans and in future their children.
10) Sports can no longer be enjoyed and is soon to be destroyed through ANC interference, quotas and poor adminstration by ANC appointed officials
11) Water, petrol and food shortages are imminent
Many more facts can be added to the above and the mere policies and statements of the ANC is a clear indication of the future of this country, the writer can choose to ignore, he has however thereby sealed his and his families fate as citizens of a Marxist Third World state in the beginning stages of collapse.
He can preach the joys and bad mouth those who do not share his liberal beliefs all he wants, the fact is he has proven himself ignorant in his writings and has no regard for reality or factual debate.
FACT - South Africa is fast becoming a third world African begging bowl state.

This kind of q has been posted many times before by ANC loyalists, and i will say what i've said before: I love my country, but I hate the incompetent racist ANC government who is destroying it for all. There's a big difference between trashing the country and trashing the ruling party. On this forum i know many (including myself) who trash (and thrash) the ANC and the results of their misrule, but I know no-one here who trashes South Africa as such.

This is the rsponse of one of the many SA blogs:

chris moerdyk, yet another second class columnist wannabe, tries to justify his failure to emigrate by attacking emigrants who tell the truth about south africa.

Below, this here wanker attacks expats who feel it their patriotic duty to point out the continuing blunders of his beloved anc bosses. He thinks that since he lived overseas in the 70's(!) that he has relevant experience to comment on the matter, not realizing that the expats of today have got a much better viewpoint, and much better (and current) experience to make FACTUAL statements about south africa from an outside (and inside) point of view.

He fails to realize that the expats who left because of the gross incompetence of the anc who DO NOT attack the government is the REAL problem, and that those that DO are in fact doing so because they are patriotic, and feel that by making the incompetence of the anc known not just to the outside world, but to the anc themselves, they are HELPING to solve the problem.

Any person with BRAINS knows that it is not merely about your RIGHT to state your grievances, but that a good government should ENCOURAGE criticism. Old moerdyk here thinks that people who left because they have the BRAINS to do so should just leave, and never talk about south africa again.

Why must we do that, moerdike?

The very reason lots of people leave is because they refuse to live under a communist dictatorship amongst white trash traitors like you. What do you suggest we do when our loved ones, children and spouses get raped, beaten and murdered right before our eyes by your beloved anc supporters? Just brush it off and say 'it happens', and then go outside an be part of rebuilding the country, which only got fucked after the anc got hold of it, thanks to the biggest traitor of all time, fw de klerk?

Is that what you expect us to do? Is it our fault now (in your eyes) that we have the foresight to PREVENT ourselves and our loved ones from getting in that situation in the first place by leaving our country for another? Is it our fault that we are clever, and the likes of you, middle aged loser, is not?

Your very own anc masters were protesting their plight by waving their terrorist anc flag for many years, and by doing much worse thing that what WE are doing now out of protest for what they, the anc, is doing to our beloved country. What is it about the REAL south african flag that you hate so much? Is it because you are stupid enough to have been swept up by the 1970's (and later) communist propaganda dished out by your mental equals, the anc troop, and now you are angry because you realize that it doesn't matter how much black sphincter kissing you are doing, it doesn't help because the blacks hate you anyway because you are white?

You bash the expats, but the expats, together with our kin left back in south africa, our brothers and sisters in the fight to restore morality and values, are the REAL fighters for the future of south africa, its only hope, whilst the sorry losers like yourself are just another obstacle to cross in our fight to bring civilization back to africa.

Oh how Iâ€™d love to see you converted (like bullard) through the hands of your beloved countrymen, the black savage masses of south africa. Nothing would make me happier, and be sure that when this happens, many, many expats will be saying 'I told you so!'.

Expats trash SA, SA trashes SA....what's the difference?
Whether you trash it from there or here, trashing is trashing.

People have their own individual opinions about SA, the bad ones coming from years of possible bad treatment in SA (jobless, homeless, raped, murdered, mugged)

And you the ones that have had nothing happen to them....
Now if you had nothing happen to you, would you complain or trash?

We don't always know why somebody leaves. Could be because they can't find work, or that bad things have happened to them or people close to them. Fear. Nobody wants to leave a place they love...but at the end of the day...would you rather live in fear in a place you love? Or live happily in a place you don't love as much?

Sometimes it's very understandable where expats are coming from...sometimes not at all.

WOW that article just ticked me right off. Who the hell is he? We dont want to leave because of black people taking over power, we want to leave beacase we are getting slaughtered!!! We are getting murdered over a cellphone, we are getting our fingers chopped off with garden pliers out of pure spite.

I trash my own country because of arrogant people like him. F**k him. I bet he used to live in a township with no water or power and got his job just because he was black. Now he has some water and some power and some is better than none right. How the government is infringing on our constitutional rights to water, electricity and personal safety. He thinks that by sucking up to his readers he will be spared from rape and murder. Zim although I see what you mean about me contradicting myself. That is a fair comment. But you miss the bigger picture. Its not just about then and now, its also about how we are expected to say nothing about the state of the country. Do you agree that things are better now than there were before? Can you honestly say you are proud of having a criminal as your president. The fact that AA has now lead to water contamination and a power crisis. As ex pats they are allowed to criticise the country because they have an outside opinion. You are too close to the problem to see it is a problem.

When the ANC government start to push out such lousy and not well thought out propaganda, it must be evident that the world opinion are starting to hurt them. Couldn't they at least have thought of a better plot for their propaganda. Anyone with a bit of common sense or education can see through this farce of a column as a way to stifle negative sentiments towards their corrupt government.
The world took their eye off Zimbabwe in the eighties and nineties while it started to self destruct.
Now the ANC tries through such cheap propaganda to take the eye of ordinary people off them, while they are on their route of destruction off SA.
I for one will never stop pulling them down until they stop to advocate that all the problems were caused by the white man in SA and they themselves stand up for their own mistakes.

I don't think we will ever get anywhere while there is still such rampant racism. There are so few white people left in this country, why do people like him even care what we think? I have said it and I will say it again, the whole concept of racism baffles me, the fact that some think they're better than others because of the colour of their skin. I truly hope our new generation will grow up with fewer prejudices. And everybody is missing the point, most people don't hate black people, they hate the crime and the corrupt incompetent government. Why politicians say the time for opposition politics is not right, is beyond me. That might be the only thing that restores sanity to our country, that people are held accountable for their dishonesty and lies.

Most of my clients who immigrated in the last couple of years contacts me regularly. Almost all of them tells me they had it better here in SA. However the last couple of weeks they have that "I told you so" tone. Its almost if they are relieved that things are very "dark" here at the moment. To be honest, it does not bother me much, I keep my eye on the ball and will make my own decisions. Negative speech has always made me work harder towards a goal. I for once would like to be the person who says "I told you so".

Hmmm. I am going to have to take a stance on this one. As an expat South African I find myself constantly defending SA as best I can, perhaps one could say I am doing the reverse because of feeling guilty about not being in SA? On these threads most of the South Africans complaining are actually in SA, at least as far as I know whereas those with "rose tinted" glasses, as some put it, are abroad.
I do not ever like to TRASH SA because at the end of the day it is the land of my birth and for better or worse SA will always be country. I draw a distinction between constructive criticism, historical debate and TRASHING, I am sure the other answerers from South Africa know what I mean.

Who gets to decide what one can say and what one can't say?

Anyway, I see way past that.
I understand the fear that people have in hearing bad reports from overseas.
These are usually people who don't want the truth to be told.

And why would someone not want the truth to be told?
Why would someone not want people outside SA to know what is happening in SA?

For every letter like this I will tell as many people as possible about what is happening to my country and I urge everyone to tell as many people as they possibly can about what is happening in SA.

I don't get frustrated when I read articles like this, I'm glad, because it means that there are enough ex-pat South Africans making overseas journalists stop and listen and write stories and film documentaries about it.

And there's nothing that makes a corrupt government sh!t themselves more than international exposure.

So good on you all ex-pats, keep up the good work!!!!

We have had a debate on this topic before and I seem to recall you agreeing that all South Africans (and Internationals), inside and outside South Africa have a right to an opinion or comment about SA, and have a right to discuss/debate SA?

I agree with the author......if people have chosen to leave the country, why do they keep poking their noses in its affairs? The way things have been going for the past 2 weeks in this forum, I thought all white people had the same thought process as the people here.
Now I feel bad because I generalised in my posts.
