For Israeli Jews and non-Israeli Jews!!? |
First of all, non-Jews, especially the bashers, will not be considered for best answer. Sorry, even if you don't hate Israel, this is still a question for just Jews. And especially to the bashers......your answering attempt is futile.
My parents are Israeli, I'm American, but I have a deep connection, as you have noticed, lol!
Yehudim present, how deep is your connection to the land of your forefathers?
For example, you all know how bada*s I am, but I admit, on occasions, Emperor Ultra has had his teary moments, for example, as my El Al flight landed at BG Int'l and as I walked through Yerushalayim and especially at the Kotel.
And....I have on my desk two flags, one U.S. flag (ironically made in China) and one Israeli flag. Just a few sec. ago, the Israeli flag fell off my desk and touched the ground, and when I bent down to pick it up I kissed it, like if you would drop your kippah or siddur prayer book.
So how are your connections? Are you Ultranationalists, LOL? Additional Details Lady Suri, that was amazing. |

Hard question, asking me to spill my heart here ;-)
Well I'm not Israeli (I wish I was, hah) but my family is from there, but even if they weren't I'd still have a very strong connection as I'm just that kind of person who likes to connect with her roots. Israeli flags and mementos from Israel Solidarity Day decorate my room and I'm constantly working on some project through some group I'm in that works for Israel. My life goal, before last summer, was to get to Israel and Baruch HaShem, last summer I did it. The feeling when I stepped off that plane and saw ברוכים הבאים לישראל
It was....like someone had inflated a balloon somewhere inside. That first time I stood at the Kotel, when I pressed my hands and lips to those stones I felt so incredibly close to something so much bigger than all of us, whether it was G-d or our history as Jews or the things we've been through together or feeling reunited with the land that gave me my blood and bone...Yeah, the tears fell. They fell at Latrun looking at the memorial wall, at the Hertzl museum, at Yad Vashem...but most of all, they fell when it was time to leave.
Since leaving Israel I've felt that yawning hole every day that I was able to ignore before, and I can't wait to grow up and make aliyah some day....
There is so much I could say, but I don't know how to say it, lol.

I was not born in Israel, but I moved to Israel based on ideological and religeous motivations. Ever since I feel that this is the only place I can truely call my home. I went back to my country of origin for a visit and felt like a foreigner in the strange land. Every time I am away from Israel I count the minutes till I come back. I wept when I touched the Kotel (Western Wall) for the first time. I am shaken to the core every time I assend the Temple Mount. My son was born in Jerusalem. I serve in the army. I moved to so called "occupied" territories to live for the same reasons I moved to Israel. I drive to and from my home on the roads where terrorist attacks occur pretty often. And I knew where I was going before I bought my house. I am willing to risk my life in that way because the land of Israel is well worth it. It is G-d's commend for us as Jews to settle the land and I am proud to be a settler. To all the Jews that are not Israeli yet I say come home. No Jewish activity abroad - decorating your room or table with Israeli flag or contributing money to Jewish causes will ever compare to your contribution by moving to Israel. (plus for money contributors - Israeli tax authority will make sure that you will contribute financially to the country by far more then you'd do so on your own :) ). In short Israel to me is the only place in the world that is worth to live in and worth to fight and die for if need be. I feel that I can say such lofty words because I am backing them by my actions - living in the Land of Israel |

I know what you mean; I don't want to get all 'emotional' here so for now, suffice it to say I dream of Israel frequently. Mostly, I guess I show my love and loyalty by defending Israel whenever I hear anyone mis-stating facts about the situation or expressing hatred for the Jewish state.
I've taken on friends, friends' partners, colleagues, strangers, journalists, newspapers - I will take on anyone who tries to unfairly portray Israel as the only and major villain in the middle east!
EDIT TO HOPELESS
what are you ON about? This is the Israel section and if Ultra wants a question answered by his co religionists, there's nothing wrong with that. He was in fact polite about it and yet STILL you dismissed his request. I've seen numerous posts asking for 'Muslims only' or 'Christians only' in the religion forum - and I wouldn't dream of taking umbrage.
So grow up because frankly, you really are beginning to suit the name you use on this site.
SHANTI
I'm not being 'nasty', I'm defending Ultra's right to ask a question directed at his co religionists. And since when is Hopeless 'half Jewish'? Really??? |

I feel a great affinity to Israel and I love visiting. I feel at home there as much as I do in Britain, perhaps at times even more so.
I'd like to add my voice to ivri_anokhi's that you don't kiss your kippah, only your siddur and tzitzit. |

I have to admit, when I landed in Israel for the first time, I got a little teary-eyed just like you. When I left the airport and drove into Israel for the first (second, and third) time, I cried - but that might have had more to do with the unbelievable beauty of Israeli women. Seriously, gorgeous women everywhere, almost all of them Jewish.
As a Zionist who has gone to Israel to learn, but not made aliyah, I probably merit the title of "nationalist," but without the "ultra-". Which I guess is okay, because I also consider myself "orthodox" without the "ultra-". I consider my affinity for the land of our forefathers stronger than that for the government of my co-religionists, and though I don't necessarily agree with their views, I can see the perspective of anti-Zionist Jews (the ones who oppose Jewish statehood on Jewish religious grounds, not Uncle Toms like Finkelstein and Chomsky). That being said, I still think that the Neturei Kartaniks, who go around embracing homicidal Jew-hating maniacs are traitors, and probably deserve to be hanged (treason IS a capital offense in most countries, right? And it is defined as giving active support or chizuk to a nation's enemies, is it not?), or at least to be put into cherem (i.e. excommunicated). |

Ultra National- We're so much alike, it's not even funny. Yeah, I totally understand about the El Al flight. That must have been extremely emotional. And I have only my Israeli flag on my desk and have a rather large Star of David on my wall, that is the first thing you see when you walk in. |

How deep is my connection to the Holy land? How can that be formulated into words? Though i'm not able to live in Israel I wish so strongly to be able to settle there. Just being there you feel like a different person and intimately connected to our past, present and future. (I know, cheesy sounding but hey, dont all things that come from the heart come off as cheesy?) G-d willing, if circumstances permit I hope to move there in a couple of years. |

I live in Israel since January 29, 1990.
Here is my poem to answer your question.
"Israel"
My mother said to me
there will never be peace there
My father said to me
America is the best country in the world
and then I left America for Israel
My friend said to me
I hate it here in the summer
the landscape looks harsh
everything stinks
My friend’s words confirmed for me
my feeling, gloating
I love Israel more than she
What does the hellish weather mean to me
What does the terror and wars mean to me
Nothing, nothing that can move me from my beloved
My friend said to me
I love the Land of Israel
My boyfriend said to me
I love the State of Israel
What does state or land mean to me
She is my beloved
She is my Israel
Just as mother cannot explain her love for her child
Just as man cannot explain his love for his woman
I cannot explain my love for Israel
Whether or not G-d exists
Whether or not G-d gave this land to us
We, the Jewish people do exist
and we can sing the Song of Songs
and our song is our love for Israel
Patriotism, nationalism are weak words
What does politics mean to me
Nothing, nothing I am a flying Jew
Flying in Chagall’s painting over Jerusalem
Whether or not she is heavenly Jerusalem
Whether or not she is earthly Jerusalem
Whether or not she is Naomi Shemer’s Jerusalem of Gold
It matters not to me
She is my beloved Israel and I am flying over her soul
I hear the religious and the secular disparage and denigrate one another
I hear the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim disparage and denigrate one another
I hear the immigrants and the sabras disparage and denigrate one another
These are our three fault lines, rifts
finding fault until the earthquake
What does their lashon hara mean, matter to me
I want to cry to all my people (myself included)
Just as our G-d is one, we are one
They are my beloved, Israel
Another land has the most beautiful nature
Another land has the most polite people
Another land has the most tranquil atmosphere
What does that matter to me
I love Israel more
She is my beloved
Hear O Israel:
The land is ours
The land belongs to us
The land of Israel
The house of Israel are one
and are won, forever, inseparable
And now the world knows this is true |
