For most of the people or the cultured people Egypt is amazing. I recommend you Egypt of course. it's the heart and the mother of the world. You can imagine Cairo Latin American capital.
In Egypt we have many kinds of tourism and you can select. Sharm, Hurghada (Sun, Beach, Diving, water sports)
Luxor, Aswan, Cairo ( the history of the world, the oldest and first civilization)
Alexandria, North coast, Marsa matrouh (Beach, Sun, Mediterranean culture)

going to Egypt is the perfect choice, u'll have lots of fun, specially if u go to the red sea area like Hurgadah and Sharm el Sheikh...

plz choose your words appropriately, what do u mean by filthy!!!!and Egyptian people are famous for their friendliness and kindness...and you couldnt be more secure....i can walk alone at 12 oclock with no serious fears!Can u do this in ur country!!!!!!!!
You friend hasnt heard about sharm el shiekh or the red sea... idoubt she/he has been to this beautiful country.

Actually both choices have many things in common.
Both have the culture side , which has its special tatse, both have the amazing welcoming people "not sure if Indians are as welcoming as Egypt".
Both have special food and reasonable prices, bith have many sight seeing ...

On the other side , both have the "poor" side also, so expect some "bad sides" , like crowdness or dirty places .. it is a fact that we all have to face ... but isn't an experience by itself??

BTW.: Sharm and Red Sea are extermely amazing option , but not in the summer for sure..

I've been to Egypt twice, there's alot to see and it was very exciting. You would most likely fly into Cairo, so there's the khan il kalili market, Giza/pyramids, the desert oasis, hurghada is beautiful, as well as dahab which is on the Sainai peninsula and has beautiful red sea resorts everywhere. There's also Luxor and all the Valley of the Kings, Alexandria. There's alot of history in Egypt and the people are very friendly. India is huge and would take a long time to explore but it would be just as fun.

India is good place , but sorry, never like Egypt.

In Egypt you can find:

History, sport, sea, nice beaches, water sports, diving, shopping, museums, pyramids, river (Nile) trip, kind friendly people, desert, relaxation.

You can enjoy your time in Sharm (sea, water sports, horse riding, golf, nice food, night life, safe and alot of natural sightseeing)

Or you can enjoy your time in Cairo (museums, 3000 years civilization, pyramids, shopping, national and international restaurants, old town, but its crowd and bad traffic)

Alexandria is the best weather now, (roman museums, biblotica library one of the biggest library in the world, nice beaches in Alexandria and near it in the north coast ,"Marina" one of the best places in Egypt and middle east)

If you like relaxing, natural water and healthy weather without any noise ,it must be Siwa or Aswan

Egypt is full of nice and beautiful places, i wish you have a nice unforgettable trip.

You should wear decent bec. people won't be looking at you, they'll be staring!!!Also bring any medicins with bec. they might not have it here. Egypt is great you'll love it. Have fun.

well i have never been to India only to sri lanka.
but, Egypt ...good points..... antiquities are amazing i dont think there is anywhere else in the world quite like the pyramids the tombs and temples of Egypt. The museum has to have the most stunning collection of antiquities in the world. the hotels are OK, the food is OK, and the diving in sharm is also stunning. but if you go to sharm going to see the ancient sites is more difficult. the night life is nothing special, the alcohol is expensive, the streets and canals are often filthy, (sorry folks but they are)and while the Egyptians have to be the friendliest people, there are some who will try to scam you for money.
in sri lanka i found the people equally friendly and equally ready to scam you for money, i believe the history in India is also fascinating, though more spread out. and the hotels in sri lanka and i believe in India were amazing. on balance i think either choice will be an unforgettable holiday. but for me in England India is a lot more expensive to get to. for you.... i don't know.

Damn, that's a hell of a graduation gift. Yes, Egypt is a good option.

For those that said Egypt is filthy, so is the US, and India is more filthy than Egypt anyway. Egypt is actually safer, for the primary reason that tourists are big business in Egypt and they want to make certain they are protected. Terrorism isn't much of an issue, certainly it exists, but exists in India too, and Europe, and the US, and anywhere. India does not have the same perspective on tourism, plus their standard of living is not as high as in Egypt.

Yes the Nile is polluted, thanks to the imbeciles who decided to build the Aswan Dam, and Cairo is somewhat dirty like any big city, but the reality is there is no place on earth with the history of Egypt. Not Greece, not Italy, not England, nowhere. The museums, pyramids, temples, mosques, and various other artwork will overload your senses. If you like history, art, and culture, you will absolutely love Egypt. Just because their 'drinks are more expensive' certainly does not mean you forgo a chance to see it.

The most important things to know are to drink bottled water only, cover up your head, arms, and legs when you go into a mosque, protect your personals, always hold tightly to your purse if you take one, and pack warmly, but it can get cool during the night.

You also want to be wary of gypsies who might send their children after you to distract you while they perform a heist, but that happens in Rome too.

egypt for sure,
it have alot to offer, more than fun. you can have so many different stuuf only in one country, culture, relaxing, natural areas, this all avaliable here, my advise for you to make your trip as much as you can not in summer, if you plan to make it in summer, chose city near the coast cause it is always hot in summer time, winter will be lovely weather.

My mom and cousin have both gone to Egypt and said as far as it goes: It is really cool for people who have an interest in the historical side, but that the country is filthy and the people are not very trustworthy. They both said that you have to constantly watch your back, especially for women. Despite all that, I still really want to go someday. Hope you have fun either way.

go to india, i used to be an air hostess and have been all over the world. indias fab, goas brilliant. great food, cheap beer, nice people, cheap shopping in shacks. great weather. went to egypt, food not as good, pretty expensive to go out for drinks. got ill on the food, me and a friend went and the men out there gave us all horrible attention. felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. maybe would be better with family. have fun wherever you go!
