The Day of Ashura (عاشوراء transliteration: ‘Āshūrā’, Ashura, Ashoura, and other spellings) is on the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Remembrance of Muharram but not the Islamic month.
This day (A'ashura) was an ancient Judaic feast day of celebration and atonement. Now it is well-known because of mourning for the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH (AD 680). Furthermore Sunni Muslims believe that Moses fasted on that day to express gratitude to God for liberation of Israelites from Egypt. According to Sunni Muslim tradition, Muhammad fasted on this day and asked other people to fast.[1] |

not yet... as usual the 10th will be on the sunday here in Pakistan....
today its the 8th of muharram...
@ the clown... well you are right abt the jews fasting on this day but this aint the same for both religions... because muslims have to fast for 2 consecutive days i.e. if a muslim is fasting on the 10th then he will also have to fast on the 11th as well... and the jews fast only for one day... |
