No, the US hasn't betrayed Israel at all. There is no indication of that. The US is still in favor of peace between Israel and Palestine. |

no... the US has to be strategic with its allies and rite now we would much rather be friends with the muslims than the jews. the muslim countries have more power, resources, and there are more of them. israel would not be a good choice over the muslim countries. but this all happens because you jews and muslims cant get along and if we side with one country, the other turns on us!!!! |

No I don't think so. Reason: the history between the two. Nothing you seen in the media reflects the truth of what is happening. zion and the US are tired firmly together; everything else is just smoke and mirrors. |

Not at all; it's a tradition with the USG for any lame-duck president to offer all kinds of things to Palestinians - which of course are never followed up on by the succeeding president. Clinton did his I'm-for-peace bit on palestine in the summer of 2000. So this Annapolis thing is right on schedule. It's always the same routine. |

Riviva is correct, the US has not betrayed Israel; they are acting in their own best interest (I kid you not, as we speak, GW is in Saudia Arabia b-b-begging King Abdullah for more oil to buy).
Some American Jews may use strong terms like 'betrayal' because they were foolish enough to think that the Bush Administration gives a whip about Israel, like he has pictures of the Kotel in his bedroom or something. But the man is simply doing what he needs to do to keep oil prices down, and the American economy from collapsing. The bottom line is that militarily Israel, US and UK will always be allies.
Specifically, American Jews are upset:
1) for US diplomatic pressure (via Rice) to cease construction in West Bank/East Jerusalem (like Har Homa) without any clear sign from Abbas that they have Hamas and militants under control (as indicated by daily kassams on Sderot). An additional reason is the tremendous amount of resources invested in revitalizing these areas for Israeli occupancy.
and
2) US pressure on Israel to give up sovereignty in parts of Jerusalem (a major to-do for fundamentalists, charedim and dati leumi). If anything, this is the one contention that every religious Jew goes ballistic over. When Jews recaptured Jerusalem in 1967, Moshe Dayan GAVE Muslims free control of their holy sites even though Muslims DENIED all Jews from visiting Jewish holy sites from 1948 to 1967. I doubt you will ever, ever see Israel relinquish control of Jerusalem and, quite frankly, we should not.
I must say though that most (secular) sabras seem not to care about either Anapolis or Bush's visit. |

Not as of yet, however, I find Bush's drive to accomplish something in the Middle East potentially dangerous. The truth is that a working solution will take longer than his term, and probably even longer then the next president's term. One drawback of limitted leadership times is the near inability to commit to a long term solution. Anapolis was an absurd waste of time, and any other moves in that direction would be to Israel's detriment. |

The U.S. does try to curry favor with the "moderate" Arab world by pressuring Israel into concessions that are by no means justified and not in Israel's best interests. In this sense, it is a betrayal. As oil is at the strategic center of American policy in the Middle East, however, the State Department would probably call it realpolitik. |

The USA betrays everyone at one point or another. Everyone knows this including Israel so I don't think they take it personally when it happens. |

I don't know about that; I'm not Israeli and thus can't answer on their behalf. As a diaspora Jew, though, I think it seems fair to suggest that America plays both sides. She gives aid to the Palestinian Authority and Israel, for example. America condemns terrorism but then does big business with Saudi Arabia, even though that country is thought to fund terrorism. |

Nice question. I would recommend to look up books and articles of late prof Yuval Neeman to understand this interesting issue. In many cases America took steps that were detrimental to Israeli interests. Here few examples: When a peace treaty was worked between Israel and Egypt US has promised that if Israel relinquishes Sinai peninsula US will not allow any SAM (Surface-Air Missle) bataries to be moved there nor that it would provide any wepons to be placed there. As soon as Israel ceded that territory and Egyptians moved SAMs there US goverment said that situation has changed and reneged on it's promise. There were other similar acts that may easily be interpreted as betrayal. But the real issue is that Israeli goverment becomes spineless vis-a-vis US goverment and does not know how to say "No" when it serves their interests. US as any other country may and should work to advance their interests. And US interests are not always the same as Israeli ones. So Israeli goverment should not count that US will work for advancement of Israel's interests. That's the job of our Israeli government. And until we stend up for our own interests why should we expect that someone else does. I do have problem with some of US policies, but I got much bigger problem with inability of Israeli goverment to fight for what is good for Israelis. |

U.S is the servant of Israel........
and they both are "Killers".......
Well over 300,000 Japanese massacred when the US dropped nuclear bombs on the urban civilian areas of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and firebombed Tokiyo
More than 4,000 innocent civilians killed in Panama during the US invasion in 1989
Over 500,000 people were killed in Laos when America subjected civilians to "secret bombing" from 1964 to 1973, dropping over two million tons of bombs on the country. Over one fourth of the population also became refugees
100,000 people were murdered in South Korea prior to the Korean War by a brutal repression supported by US forces in 1945. This includes between 30,000 and 40,000 killed during the suppression of a peasant revolt on Cheju Island
Up to 4,500,000 Koreans were killed from 1951 to 1953 during America's massive slaughter in the Korean War
200,000 were murdered when the Philippines were conquered by American forces. This took place just over 100 years ago
23,000 people were slaughtered in Taiwan by US-backed, trained, equipped, and funded forces (Chiang's Nationalist army) during the late 1940s
700,000 Indonesians (mostly landless peasants) were murdered in 1965 when the US armed and supported General Suharto
200,000 were slaughtered in East Timor in 1975 by General Suharto with US support
600,000 civilians in cambodia killed by US bombing 1969-1975
750,000 civilians were driven from their homes in East Timor by Indonesian forces in 1999 and 10,000 were killed
Over 1,700,000 Iraqis have been killed by US bombings and sanctions, mostly women and children
Over 1,000,000 lives were lost during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s in which the US used direct force and supported Hussein and Iraq
45,000 people were killed in South Lebanon since 1982 by Israel, always armed and supported by the US
Thousands have been killed in Palestine and millions (in both Palestine and Lebanon) were made refugees by US-backed Israel
Over 75,000 civilians were killed and over one million refugees were created in El Salvador from 1980 to 1994 when the US intensely supported the efforts of a brutal regime and its death squads to eliminate a popular uprising
40,000 civilians were killed by the US-backed National Guard in Nicaragua over the course of almost 50 years
30,000 lives were killed by the US contras in Nicaragua from 1979 to 1989
200,000 Guatemalans were slaughtered from 1960-1990s by a military apparatus trained, armed, funded, and assisted by America
Over 35,000 Colombian civilians have been killed during the US-supported Columbian war against left-wing rebels
Over 3,000 were killed and countless others injured by US interventions in Cuba
Up to 10,000 more Somalians were killed by US troops during America's "humanitarian mission" in 1993
1,500,000 were killed between 1980 and 1988 in southern Africa by the US-armed South Africa
EDIT:
no it doesn't.......just wanted to let you know that "Americans" and Israelis cannot be trusted and you cannot expect any good from them.....
and here is my question to you.......
Can a servant (a good one) betray his master.......??? |

The relationship between the US and Israel is strategic. I am angered over much that the US has done, but it would be unrealistic to expect the US to side only with Israel and do only what is in our best interest. The US is its own country. Israel is the strongest Middle Eastern ally of the US, but not the dictator of Middle East policy... so we live with it and worth through diplomacy to advance our interests.
That's life! |
