As a matter of fact I have. I lived there three years - in Polokwane - not the most likely place to find open minded people, black or white, but I did meet a few. I was, I must admit, involved in the tourist trade where people who want to be financially successful must put their personal prejudices on a back burner. But they are there. One thing I did notice was that they all had travelled, had seen people in both better situations and in worse situations than than those they were facing in South Africa so perhaps took a more cosmopolitan view of South Africa than the majority. It is unfair to tar and feather an entire population with the same brush - you will inevitably hurt someone that does not deserve it.

Next day edit: JD - a very good example of what I was talking about when I spoke about tarring and feathering an entire group with the same brush. Makes as much sense as saying all people who have icons with red/pink hair the world over are small minded bigots who judge the world by their own very limited view of it. You do yourself a disfavour when you limit yourself this way - no doubt you will blame someone else for your self imposed misery.
Dia Tom - I am neither a bigot nor ignorant - I didn't call anyone names. I just think you limit the possibilities in your own life when you generalize. Perhaps I am wrong but some people in this forum are defensive even when there is nothing to be defensive about. I write well - try reading it with an open mind and please do not put words in my mouth that I never used. I am amazed at the amount of animosity that saying I know nice South Africans has generated.

Too many to mention here. In each nation there are good, nice people. But a few who harbour dislikes, like you, are found two a penny everywhere in the world.

What some people may view as nice differs to what others may view.

Personally I have met a few "nice" South Africans for instance my oupa (grandfather) was South African (rest his soul) he was an amazing man. I can't tell you how wonderful he was with us all. Quite but happy man. A farmer who provided for his family. I miss him terribly!!

When I was at school my childhood hero was Jody Scheckter, the 1979 Formula 1 World Champion. I have worked in film and television for many years and have been most dissapointed to meet some famous people and discover they are not very nice ( I am being polite here) I met and interviwed Jody Scheckter in 1997 and had a good laugh with him on the flight home from the F1 race we were at. A met him a couple of times after that and he has always been polite and entertianing. He met my son and spent time being nice to him and talking with him. Jody was born in East London, South Africa. Yes, My Italian Housemate's girlfriend is South African and she is a lovely woman.

In fact she is the only South African I have met so statistics tell me that 100% of South Africans I have met are nice, which is in direct contrast with the percentage of British people I have met.

Yea I've met Zulu's, Xhosa's, Sotho's, Tswana, Khoi, San, Cape Malay, Durban Indians (best curry by the way), Swazi's & Shangaans. The rest are thieves, murderers, & wild animals. Yea if you dont like it then sod off, hear hear!

Have you ever met a nice Englishman? I haven't. They are all secret Chubby Browns but in public oh so PC.Wanker$. Very course ,unrefined people are the English and in due course they will understand what black people are all about-they hate whites and will never forgive slavery. South Africans, on the other hand, are honest,open people with refined manners and I enjoy working with them. They will never talk behind your back or pimp you to the bosses-unless they are black of course. They call a spade a spade. The English are currently reaping what they've sown throughout the world and now they winge and whine about their culture being swollowed up. Reap what you have sown, old boy. Englishmen are worse than old fish wives at the market-gossipmongering and summising this and that about people by what they see on the tele. Empty barrels make the most noise. The UK needs South Africans to inject some decency and culture back and to sort out the spitting,urinating,foul mouthed hooligans that are common to every street corner of England. Good question...no. And I've only ever met white south africans and they all had some mental issues and generally horrible characters...and the way they talk is very strange.
