Look as a Father of daughters & having gone through this twice myself , it is usually a shock when you realise your little girl has grown up all of a sudden.

This may not be about your man but about Dad letting go...maybe he sees it as a competition for your love!

Take it slowly ...give Dad time to become accustomed to the idea that you guys are serious & if all else fails , work on Mum & let her sort him out !

try to talk with him in a calm way, and try to make him see the virtues the man has.

I don't know the people involved but I would say if your dad doesn't like him, he will have a good reason why.

You should have a good talk with your dad. Not to get your way but to understand why he doesn't like your boyfriend.

As an older man, you will be able to see things in your boyfriend that you don't see and that your boyfriend doesn't see. Find out what those things are before you get upset with him.

If this guy is truly a good guy like u said,that has the ability to get married and has the responsibilities than try to convience ur father that his what ur looking for,and try to make ur father ask Qs about this Guy to u,by giving him TRUE answers (Not false) about this guy.

If ur father really loves u and cares about u and knows what u really want ,than maybe ur father is right about this guy,who knows,cuz knowone on this earth cares about u more than ur own family.

this is an easy one, If he really loves you he would love your family, if he knows that your father doesnt like him he needs to win him over, if your dad says anything mean to him have him stand his ground. when dealing with significant other's parents there is no eagle or pride, all those have to be gone if hes a real man, respect is the key to over come your dad if he keep showing that he respects your dad then your dad has no choice but to fold and slowly you will see changes, bring the 2 arround each other more often. your dad knows whats best for you and dont want nothing less for you but for you to be happy and safe, so he will never try to break something up that is going to make you sad but what he will do is test your boyfriend/fiance strength and weaknesses, talk to your bf about and let him know that your dad doesnt like him and he will need to prove that he is man enough

If he went as far as proposing, then he definitely must want to be with you. As far as your father is concerned, it isn't he who is going to marry him. Therefore, the ultimate choice is yours. Follow your heart. If I was in the same situation (except that I'm a guy) I would definitely marry the girl of my dreams, even though my mom might not approve of her. Sometimes, parents can get pretty possessive.

You mentioned that he was catholic. Are you of a different religion? Maybe this is what is ticking off your father. Either way, it shouldn't matter.
