After the 1948 War of Israeli Independence, Jerusalem was a divided city (the part taken by Jordan was never made into a capital of the west bank) . The eastern half fell under the military control of the Jordanian army. The western half was claimed by the nascent Jewish state. All of that changed in 1967. During the Six-Day War, Israel, having been invaded by her neighbors, not only defended the territorial integrity of the borders established in 1948, but also managed to reclaim many areas that had been wrested from Jewish control. These areas were historically Jewish. Furthermore, with the exception of the Sinai, they were all included in the original British Mandate for Palestine, established by the League of Nations following the First World War.

Jerusalem was reunited following the quick Jewish victory and was soon after established by Israeli law as the country's undivided capital city. This was established in the form of a Basic Law. Since Israel has no constitution, this legal construction forms the most basic type of legislation in the nation. The general structure of the governmental system and the entire foundation of Israeli law and jurisprudence are guided by the use of Basic Laws. Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel (in the absence of a constitution, this is the primary and fundamental type of national law) was thus used to expedite the transfer of all government agencies operating outside of the city to Jerusalem and to officially establish it as the capital city.

It was never a capital of an Arab country, and it will never be.

Actually, the issue of Jerusalem is an issue for ALL Muslims throughout the world....millions of us.

Masjid Al-Aqsa is in Jerusalem and it is a major symbol of Islam for ALL Muslims. Jerusalem belongs in the hands of Muslims... anything else is not acceptable!

Jerusalem, complete and united, is the capital of Israel.. The city where King David established as his capital 3000 years ago.. And for all these years it's the center of the Jewish universe..

It's a holy city to Christians,Jews & Muslims as well..Israel passed laws guaranteeing freedom of worship to all who consider Jerusalem holy..

"The holy places shall be protected from desecration and any other violation and from anything likely to violate the freedom of access of the members of the different religions to the places sacred to them or their feelings towards those places."

Christians have their holy areas I believe where Jesus walked,ie. Muslims tho' there's no mention of Jerusalem in the Qu'aran.only Mecca & Medina,have interpreted the Prophet words to include Jerusalem.. Thus you'll see Muslims,Jews & Christians worshipping their sacred sites..

The only Nation Jerusalem has ever been the Capitol of is Israel and that ain't changing.

East Jerusalem is a Palestinian city and it is the Palestinian capital.
Israel capital is tel aviv. Israel can not have 2 capitals or Israel can not call other people city as Israeli capital.
There is no country in the world is willing to recognize the occupied East Jerusalem as an Israeli city.

I'd prefer to keep as it is, because, honestly, the way things are, after that happens, one side or the other will start bombing again.

It is not the capital of any nation. Israel claims it as their capital,but internationally it is not recognized as such. US congress passed a law saying they agreed with Israel that Jerusalem is the capital but they lack the power to do so. The world says Tel Aviv is the capital and Israel should abide by that since they were created by world consensus.

how can a city built by the israelis in the country of the israelis (even long before the time of the prophet muhammad)be claimed as another nations capital? i don't get it..
why is it acceptable (because the prophet muhammad chose to ascend to heaven from jerusalem )to claim another countrys city (capital) as your own???
do you think that if the prophet mohammad could predict the injustice of that claim that he still would have chosen to ascend to heaven from there? i doubt that he would.
is it right for people to claim a city, they didn't build ,as their own just because their prophet happened to visit there a few times?
the logic behind the reasoning of this claim eludes me! and even more a mystery to me is the world acceptance of it..
if we follow that reasoning than the christians have an even bigger right to claim it since jesus was jewish and jerusalem was and is the capital of the jewish people..

Easy just put some United Nations troops in Jerusalem because it is half of there falt for the problems now days they can at lest take some responsibility for there screw up and allow the the Muslims and Arabs live there live

for thousands and thousands of years all kinds of people have fought over the "holly land" they all believe it is theirs as a compromise we made it the capitol of some muslim culture too.
