The closest I've come to a celeb. was when I smacked into Goofy when I was running for the bathroom as a kid.
I wasn't changed profoundly yet I suspect that is where my fear of people dressed up as giant dogs came from! |

the restaurant that i run, in the north of joburg, is frequented by many of the tv personalities on a regular basis. most of the isidingo, egoli, generations actors, as well as tv presenters eat here often.
some of the regulars are also sa, lions or bluebulls players.
on the other hand, my cousin lives next door to the mc gregor girls folks in durbanville, and on two previous visits we were invited for a braai, with all the sisters being there (highlight of my visit to cape town).
i have noticed that many of these people are just ordinary people, with extra-ordinary jobs.
generally i have found that the 7de laan actors are the cheapest, and will always complain about the bill being too much.
on a personal note, i am known as to be the only contestant on the weakest link to have physically threatened to moer fiona to her face, and proceed to walk over to her and ask her what her problem was. taping was stopped for three hours.
we both refused to apologise, and she refrained from talking to me the rest of the taping. |

I have met quite a number of both SA and American celebrities. I sat next to Nicole Kidman on a plane once. She was friendly but she is is so fake and so plastic its scary. Apart from the fact that they entertain me I don't care for any of them. I don't like plastic people. I like Leon Schuster though, the guy can make me laugh. |

I've been on the Egoli set a few times, so on set I've met Ilse Roos, Christine Basson (Tannie Nora), and I forget the name of the one guy.
Off set, I've run into Darryl Desmarais (Stephen Edwards), Shaleen Surti Richards, and Chris Linford (Rex).
I've also bumped into John Vlismus (what an arrogant pr!ck).
AND (Lions supportes will appreciate this one) I run into Mufasa (the man behind the mask) all the time!!!

Well, I work with most a lot, but mostly the black SA celebrities since I work with vernacular stuff.
They haven't changed my life in anyway.... I just feel proud that to most I'm the reason there's an increase in their bank balances.
Their really average people like you and I, except for the lifestyle and appearing on tv, being aired on radio and being on papers...
Also you Miss Poepies... (",)
Hmmm, if I can just find that billboard... |

I ran across Kurt Russell outside a grocery store, and Goldie Hawn and her daughter at Santa's Village.
No celebrity has or will change my life except to try to NOT be like them in any way. Celebrities nowadays are just as messed up (and even more so) then us non-celebrities. Who cares what they think? Who cares what they do? Who cares what they wear?
They are nothing more than public idols being fawned upon by people who need to spend their time on something else. They make a mockery of marriage by constantly marrying, divorcing, marrying, impregnating, marrying, divorcing. . . it's a circus and a farce.
Granted that there are some celebrities who do good things (Bono--U2, for instance), but for the most part, all celebrities do is make lots of money, spend it on themselves (re: Jay Leno and his many many many cars), and in some cases try to boost their public profile by doing crazy public stunts (here's looking at you, Paris Hilton).
I don't think we should strive to be like celebrities. Too much emphasis is placed on them. I think we should all strive to be who we should be: bettering ourselves on a day-to-day case. |

Some people on here ARE celebrities. Bono, Stephen Hawking, have all posted questions. Some might be more regular contributors (some fans on a Die Hard discussion forum discovered that one of their members was in fact BRUCE WILLIS!)
Myself, I've met Rhys Ifans. He was walking along the road drunk one moring in Cardiff and started chatting to my dad (who worked at Rhys's first drama school, and hung out with him in Mold). He was saying to me 'Oh, last time I saw you you were a baby!' I didn't recognise him and thought he was one of my Dad's random drama mates. Quite surpised when I found out just after who he was! |

My uncle and cousin are fairly well-known actors. (Angelspaws might know my uncle from the director's crew of Egoli). The way they affect my life are as a great uncle and cousin, not as celebrities.
During my stay at Stellenbosch I met and talked to many well-known rugby players and academics. My ex won some major international jewellry design competition. But once again, once you get to know a person, they leave the legacy of their personality, not their fame.
I was involved in making a wildlife documentary for BBC in 2001. How do I change your life?...LOL |

I have met Danny Glover, Oprah. Jacques Pienaar, James Small and Danny K. All at restaurants where i have worked. They were all really nice people except James Small who has/had a massive ego.

I have met plenty of celebreties but I just dont think anything about it. We have so many where I live that not a lot of people care or think about it, I mean when you think about it why would you? well, maybe if they were a musician but they're all actors here. |

I've ran into Marius Roberts and the Indian cricket team in Gateway, Durban once. Have met Gary Teichman and a couple of other Sharks/Lions/WP/Bulls players. Have also met a few NZ rugby players(Aaron Mauger, Dan Carter, Chris Jack). Met a the Scottish rugby teams wing last year on their tour to SA. (I watch rugby a lot)
They haven't changed my life in any way. Accept for providing some entertainment on a Saterday afternoon. The live of a celebrity doesn't really appeal to me. |

I have met one unique Mr. Nelson Mandela and he is an amazing man who has stood up well after 27 years and the lives of ten men in his experience. So many other regional and global leaders are cowards in comparison.
I am concerned that the afrikaners may have implanted a chip in his skull for some control upon his release however...that is disturbing but well within the afrikaner character, or lack thereof. It is the remnant sliver of integrity of a thuggish police state. |
