Don't take it personally I was just wondering.... I mean there are not like 100 million lebanese and 6 million out of them are living in brazil.... half of the lebanese people are living there , I just thought there might be a reason...

حلاَمبرا hallambra	I totally agree with Arpsy. She is quite right in all her reasons. I'm part of the lebanese diaspora in South America and my family came here, just looking for peace and calm as the majority of the lebaneses in those days. It is true that only in south america are more lebaneses than in Lebanon nowadays..Brazil was the first country in south america where the ships touched land, that's why many of them stayed there.. The 2nd port was Montevideo and the 3rd Buenos Aires. In the 2nd half of XX century, lebaneses changed the migratory current from Lebanon to Australia , Canada and USA instead Latin America. All latin american countries were young and a land of opportunities and welcame good pple that wanted to work in peace, and help to build these countries and their economies. Most of the lebaneses that came here, were sellers, and started with little shops. Nowadays, we all are integrated to the society of that countries, that never made any difference about the natives and the ones that came from another corner of the world.

Deinaye	because brazil is country of immigrats, much like the US. people freeing their homelands or seeking a better life came there. it's not just lebanese people. brazil has: blacks, germans, italians, portuguese, jews, native brazilians, ect.. i'm brazilian i'd know (:

Aussie the 2nd	Because they first started migrating there decades ago & then did what Lebanese do best .... bred & populated to where they are now ! It wasn't a case of 5 or 6 million people resettling at once...there are now many generations of Lebanese Brazilians ...

Josie	Talking about statistics, actually there is just about double of Lebanon`population in Lebanese immigrants and their descendants HERE in Brazil. It has already been answered how they ended up here and you see, most of them stayed because they found it a pleasant place with good weather and warm people. The same happened in other countries around here such as in Hally´s - Uruguay and.many times they go back to Lebanon to bring more relatives here (to live or marry) thus increasing their number. Now, nice people; Brazil is not the paradise of lesbians (which I know that the Lebanese women are not really into, as women from some other countries are) nor the land of "bra" ... nor thongs (bikini panties) although you probably won´t find sexier underwear or swimming suits anywhere else in the world. It gives us Brazilian women a bad reputation,unfortunately. And as for those of you who said Lebanese women are beautiful, I totally agree and I am not gay either!

arpsy	well during the time of the diaspora of lebaneses to New continent since the end of 19800's and at the beginings of 1900's several countries open their boundaries to those lebaneses inmigrants who were willing to stablish a new life in that countries, and one of them was Brasil, Argentina, Mexico, etc., and in Brazi in my opinion the were stablishing the most may be because it was the nearest coast coming from Africa to America, or may be due to climate, or may be they found out that this country was plenty of opportunities for them. As funny coment i would say that all lebanese inmigrant of that time where holding a passport wich was given by Ottoman empire so they were considered as Turks in all latin america, and for long time they were called like this turkish lebanese, just few people call them arabs, and still a lot of people call turkish to them.

Adam	because lebanese people like to travel and own their own shops!! lebanese people are everywhere world wide in places you will never expect it,, like liberia, Nigeria, brazil, mexico, cairo, sydney, fiji, Indonesia, papa new Ginni..lol Samoan islands,, and even places that hasn't been discovered yet..lol.

Mor	During the years of strife in that part of the world many people that preferred a more peaceful existence emigrated to countries that allowed free movement, no strict emigration laws and Brazil was one such 'port of entry' (not any more) - some settled in Brazil and others used it as a springboard to move further north. Lots of middle-easterners in Colombia and Venezuela as well. Those were the days when you could say, 'I'm so efin sick of this place, I'm outta here! and jump a ship to some exotic land and enjoy peace even if it meant being poor and having to struggle. Birds of a feather, flock together.
