I am married to an Egyptian and am a foreigner myself, so I usually, if it isn't too sensitive, address anything that bothers me. That's the way I was raised, to get things out in the open, to solve problems and prevent them from happening again. However i do sometimes bite my tongue, if its an older person speaking. |

To be honest I can never get a word in or over the top of my husbands Mum,none of us can.
I love her madly but she was surely vaccinated with a gramophone needle, as my father used to say, and I don't think she has a volume control.
I have more problems with keeping a straight face than biting my tongue as when she gets wound up I can't understand a word she is saying.I know she is not mad with me or anyone, it 's just how she is in her own home.
But when she comes to our home or is at other family members homes she is the perfect,quiet ,gentile lady. |

There is an Indian saying which says" One that conquers the tongue, conquers the world". If one could learn to ignore the difficult situations, one could win at all times. Have you ever read the poster called DESIDERATA? Worth a read, I would say.Interpersonal relations are difficult when they reach boiling point, but if you can ignore them you become spiritually liberated and gain affection even from disagreeable situations. Do remember this: What is fallen from the mouth{i.e.words of temper} cannot be taken back and they leave a bad taste in life. Easier said but worth aiming at. Many thanks. |

Somewhere in between. Especially if it's your husband's family, check with him to express your concerns so that you don't disrespect him. He may be able to talk with someone for you. Remember that you may have to live with these people for a long time and most likely will not change their views. But do speak your mind respectfully so that they can get to know you without letting them walk all over you! Maybe we could help you with an example if you let us know! Good luck. |

my brother in law's brother and his money grabbing wife are scum..
I used to have to bite my lip when his mum was alive... she was a lovely woman.. and they only kept in touch to get money..
only good thing about her going is I got to tell him and his cow bag of a wife what i really think of them and their money grabbing ways.
other than that, my brother in law.. is sound unlike his brother, but their parents were very nice people, thankfully it rubbed off on him. |
