How do they call Lebanon a Muslim/Arab country and its nothing like Islam? |

first of all dont confuse arab with muslim cuz muslims and arabs are not the same thing.
as for muslim, yes it is a muslim majority country but not a ISLAMIC country.its a liberal democratic nation and ppl there are liberal muslims.
so what is wrong about "livin like americans and europeans" are u jealous that they are modern and open society unlike KSA.dude KSA is a radical nation and its the one nasty, so what if kids kiss each other its a natural human interaction its called HUMAN URGES, normal human beings when teenagers they watch porn, party have sex its natural unlike in KSA where they are brainwashed and turned into radicals.
they have a religion but they choose it to practice in a modern way unlike the saudi radicals.
peace out!@ |

Just because you're a Muslim doesn't mean everyone else should follow your alleged divine laws, and in case you didn't know, Lebanon has a large Christian population (who have the right to practice their religion as they please), live and let live. If you like Saudi Arabia then that's great, stay there, and if you hate Lebanon so much then just stay away, it's not very difficult. |

people who are calling it islamic have never been there and imagine it to be like saudi arabia and mainly automatically associate arabs with islam. Lebanon is an Arab nation by ethnicity but its a culturally diverse nation with many different societies and religions.
If you feel nostalgic about saudi arabia just go down to dahieh and you will see the other face of lebanon |

I'm not Lebanese and I'm not defending Lebanon but I must say your question is stupid!
You clearly are annoyed of how Lebanese people are living their life and you have the right to do that, but to say Lebanon is "not pure" and Saudi is "pure" (by the way I hate this word) is total bullshit.
The only difference between Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries is women are forced to wear decent clothes, otherwise they use interest -riba- (which is worse in Islam than having a boyfriend) just like any other european country, government officials take a lot of bribes (which is also worse than having a boyfriend), Asian labor are abused and enslaved (again in Islam its worse than having a boyfriend).
I'm only mentioning SOME of the "unpure" things that go in Saudi Arabia (I don't want to get into politics and what they've done in the Iraqi invasion", and I know Muslim countries are doing worse than that, but I'm focusing on Saudi because you mentioned it's a "pure" place which annoyed me.
Some people like you think Islam is an abaya and a thob, and going to the masjid 5 times a day, and forget it's a way of living and it's a nation wide aspect. |

what? I've lived in Saudi for 6 years now and theres sex, drugs, prostitution, alcohol, parties happening everywhere here. Just people don't advertise it here. I've been to more parties in Saudi than in USA, and alcohol is way cheaper here in Saudi than in Western countries. Infact Ive seen more drunks in Saudi than anywhere else and I've slept with married women here.
So you are either not a Saudi but a fake, or you are blind to the reality of what happens in Saudi. |

.....Lebanon is an open country unlike in Saudi Arabia thats why you'll see bars and discos open at night time, you'll see cinemas and clubs operating everywhere and you'll see people in the beach wearing bikinis and trunks, etc. Those are the quality of life that every individual wants after long hours of work where there's a place to unwind and refresh or even to hang out with friends.....but having those things doesn't mean its evil, bad or ugly to see, its still the decision of every individual on how deal with it or how to control themselves.....its there to provide fun and enjoyment once in a while but it will not make you less a religious man in spenting some time there say once a week or twice a month....your not doing anything wrong.....a little drink and partying is not wrong as long as you put it in place meaning youre not affecting other people or you're not doing bad to them.....you just want to enjoy yourself which is lacking here in Saudi Arabia.... |

Iraq1,,,,whether you are aware of it or not there are quite a few europeans in this section- as saudi arabia is to your surprise an international country- and your comments don't go down that well.
Respect to be respected.
Secondly, Lebanon is an Arab country- due to the language- and it has various religious groups living there.
Even if it was an Islamic country following properly sharia law, then family matters would be dealt according to the religion of the various groups.
Thus.........in all cases it seems that you would not like it!
And a final note....it is not in your hands to judge people and slander whole countries and civilisations. Your only responsibility is yourself and your family.
Thus stick to that! and let the others stick to their own families if they are equally concerned. |

Having worked for a Lebanese Construction company,(is Saidi Arabia) the majority of Lebanese do NOT consider themselves Arab-in fact they (used to?) consider themselves "Mediterranean " The original Lebanese in fact where NOT Arabian-the majority do of course speak Arabic and also the majority speak English and French. As for living "like Europeans and Westerners " I fully accept your wish to remain in what you describe as a "very pure"country and to continue to live your life according to your religious background but I would also ask that you give me the courtesy of NOT denigrating a lifestyle simply because it does not match up to YOUR Ideal life-style? Having lived in Saudi Arabia for many years I enjoyed the fact that the vast majority of "average" citizens are some of the nicest people you could wish to meet but I really DO get annoyed when MY ideas of how to live my life,be it in a Christian or any other religious based ways are looked upon as being "vile-obscene-ungodly' by the Islamic Clerics _ I do NOT ask that you conform to my ways? Please do NOT expect me and other Westerners to conform to YOUR ways when NOT in your country. The very idea of a western style set of laws being "imposed" upon the Saudi Arabian people would be abhorrent to a people brought up under Shiara Law and yet countries like the U.K. are expected to allow the Shiara Laws to be introduced there!!(forgive me if I spelled "shiara" incorrectly!!)
Almost ALL religions require tolerance to other religions ways and practices-albeit that this has taken a VERY long time to come about!- I worked in Saudi with the knowledge that I had to conform with the local, mainly religious based ,laws and that is as it should be. Please request the same courtesy from Islamic guests in OUR Christian based countries (at least Islamic Mosques are allowed in Europe and other Christian countries-in Saudi Arabia?no such consideration allowed in respect of place of worship!!) |

Easy don´t go there... and you don´t have to see it.
Democracy and personal freedom are words you probably don´t understand, right?
Everybody should have the right to live the way he likes and not being forced by a government or religious authority to live like an immature child.
But unfortunately your daughter will never be really full of age... I know your system, women can never decide for themselves. Call it pureness, I call it hypocrisy.
A country, which has the need to torture its citizens by stupid and inhuman prohibitions and make 50% of the population live without human rights, is a terror regime.
Islam doesn´t mean stupidly and ignorance in my eyes and also it doesn´t mean to take away personal rights of anybody… you are simply brain washed, that´s all.
Come on, we all know what most guys from Saudi Arabia really do when they go on holidays to Marbella in Spain… I never have seen people drunken and vicious like that in my whole life! Vicious with drugs and prostitutes… everything, spending thousands of dollars one single night in a club… your country is sick, man.
Double moral nothing more than that.
Thank goodness there do exist good and open-minded politicians like the King of Morocco who knows to divide between government and religion…
But never mind, the last thing I would do is visit your country… I detest people who do not respect peoples right to make up their minds on their own and decide for themselves what is good for them and what not.
I would rather commit suicide than having to live as a woman is Saudi Arabia… |

Lebanon is an Arab country, but one cannot say it is a Muslim country. The majority are Sunny Muslims with a large number of Shiite Muslims as well. Lebanon has a large Christian minority as well as a Druze Muslim minority. Its good that they allow freedom of religion there.
There is freedom of religion and no coercion in religion there. |

my friend, lebanon has a large non-muslim population. secondly, the muslim population is also not practicing muslims to a large extent. I being a muslim think that we should not be focused on lebanon. Rather we should focus on where we live and our own society. There are number of weaknesses in our own society and we should correct it. Before even correcting the society, we may have number of weaknesses in ourselves. One needs to question if we are 100% muslim? are we following all the principles of islam?, do we respect each other? do we respect each others views? do we respect our parents and our neighbours? do we take interest on the funds kept in banks despite knowing that taking interest is haraam? etc
I think if we analyze our ourselves, we will see lots of weaknesses and we need to correct it. Once it is done, then we need to correct our society and that too by not enforcing our thinking on others, but by being a role model in our behaviour so that people could follow you.
I think the problem with us (muslims) is that we like to force our thinking on others, which usually creates tension, arguments and fights. At times, we dont have the knowledge about various things but on half baked knowledge we start discussion and then create ego issues and then dont back out of that situation.
What lebanon is, its not your problem. The people of lebanon will give answers to GOD at the day of justice for their deeds.
Regards. |

Unfortunately, many things are called Muslim and Islamic when they have nothing to do with Islam. Lebanon is just another country to add to the list of so-called Muslim countries who believe westernizing = democracy.
Look at the gulf countries, look at Egypt, all of these countries claim to be representing Islam, when in fact, they are corrupting Islam and Muslims. |

to Iraqi,
lebanon is not considered an "islamic" state or country...it's more likely to be called "christian". and even though we keep saying they are "our fellow arab brothers and sisters" the truth is, a lot of them do not come from arab decent or even consider themselves arab.
the country has both religions in it...and as people all around the world, some follow thier religion to the dot, others are so and so and some are just religious by name or title....we all have saints and sinners among us if i may say.
you may have come across some events or situations on your trip that you do not approve of depending on your cultural and religious backgrounds...you'll see that everywhere you go, even in saudi arabia (not clubs and kissing necessarily but you'll see other stuff that aren't exactly islamic or authentically arabic)...
you may have seen just one part of lebanon, cause there are some very "arabic" and very "islamic" regions there....
don't forget that the different religions, as well as the different ethnic groups and influences (during the french occupation for instance) has an affect on the socio-cultural fabric that is lebanon today..
Brother Thomas,
I thank you for your kind opinion in my people and country and would like to clarify a thing or two: the asker didn't mean that lebanon should be more like saudi arabia...he was just wondering what happenned to original local lebaneese code of ethics and morals and what is acceptable or not.....yes most of the lebaneese people do not consider themselves arab or are actually arab decent...but they did have certain "taboos" that are similar to those in other arabian countries including saudi arabia...it seems like by time they gave these up or became more "ok" with those who break it...and that's what this question is about....
i and most of saudi arabians do not expect non muslims to abide by our faith or cultural and ethical codes when not on saudi soil...that's pathetic, arrogant and illogical...not to mention unislamic initself....as you said tolerance is in all religions, islam being one of them.
people see others and judge their lives (consiously or not) depending on thier own personal code that they've developed through cultural backgrounds, traditions, upbringing, schooling as well as religion and faith....so when you determine that person x is a good decent person, you're checking a list of "good" traits he posses against a set list based on your code that defines what's "good"... ofcourse all human beings has many common traits in that category but they are not an exact match.... we do it, you do it and all people do it...
as to places of worship, we don't forbid people from practicing their religion and faith in saudi arabia...why don't we have churches in modern saudi arabia (since we actually did have some not so long ago) is mere technicaliities and political webs that many saudis and even islamic scholars themselves are not 100% about...
i can go on and talk about the many christains and westerners i know (friends and even family members including my catholic mother in-law) that chose to live in saudi arabia...but i think i got the message across already |
