for me it's about the amount of time he's willing to give you.
If you are in and out in 5 minutes I decide that he is not interested and will not treat me well so I go for a second opinion |

If my insurance covers her/him
Depending on what type of doctor, if it's a woman or a man
If I think they can speak English
What hospital(s) they are affiliated with
Where they went to medical school
How far they are located from me
I really don't care what they look like, I mean, if I am sick, they gotta look better than I do, right.
I am fortunate enough to be affiliated with Northwestern University Hospitals, and their affiliated treatment centers. They are the best in Chicago, and they are a teaching hospital, so they are the very best with the latest technology, and I am always fortunate enough to get the department heads to be my treating physician.
My doctors rule! |

Usually I don't ever go see a doctor unless I'm at my last breath and they rush me to hospital and there I don't have time to chose cuz any ER doctor will do.
PS. I don't like doctors all together |

i choose the hottest ...LOL..
no, i'm joking.. the experience and reputation matters actually.. cause if the doctor isn't good, we'd know before we go there cause usually we ask our relatives and friends.. and if he's new.. well.. the same.. we'd ask our relatives and friends or send one of them there for a trial :D.. hahaha..
I'm in a very weird mood... mama webby!! i burnt myself in the sun... i went to the beach and i'm tanned now but it hurts
:( How about you take me to a good doctor now plz :( a female is preferable.. :) i'm a bit shy... *blush*
and i agree with 'hasafer'.. male surgeons are better than women... :) i want one plz... i seen some very sexy male surgeons... :'( i want one plz... now.... i want one now... NOOOOWWWW :'(
LOOOL. :D |

from my point of view only age could be important in some cases, like for surgery you will trust more older doctor with a long-time practice while in some other areas could be better to choose young doctor who has good knowledge about the "latest and greatest" in their area of medicine.
but I heard that in Lebanon men don't trust women doctors, so maybe "gender" matter most there? |

I've got the NHS assigning me a doctor... therefore i have no choice in the matter
right now my GP gets mad whenever I'm ill and I go to her for a consultation.. which is odd, but to each their own
anyhow, i'd prefer not to have and arab/lebanese doctor, simply for the reason that if i want to talk to someone in the room in arabic, they wouldn't understand what i'm saying... in other words, privacy |

None of the above matter to me.
I only ask in the Medical Society ( private clinic)where I'm associate , about who the best known bcoz of the trajectory as doctor is.
Even....I know some of them from b4.....and have no problems.
EDIT
Lol @ fares,
you are right, here that happens too much too.
I like the doctors that take their time to ask and talk to you.
They show interest abt the patient. |

Well , I guess in the first instance it's a case of pot luck !
Like in my case I needed one in a hurry to go through the o'seas travel routine....I was so impressed by him he has been my Doctor ever since !
It had nothing to do with looks , gender , age & I certainly didn't discuss his religion ....it was more a case of his attitude & the thorough way he conducted the consultation ! |

My parents choose my doctor, at least for one more year. But if I were to choose my own doctor, I would want:
Gender: A female (It's just uncomfortable for a man to be examining certain parts during a physical)
Looks: It doesn't really matter, I wouldn't consider it, but I'd feel bad if she was skinnier than me, lol.
Word of Mouth: Definitely, those who have been there know.
Religion: Wouldn't matter, as long as it wasn't some human sacrificial religion, if those exist. |

Seriously i dont have a regular doctor, because 7amdella i never needed one.
Only my dentist who has been in the family for like 10 years now, so i dont guess i would change him for any of the above that you mentioned.
But if i was to choose a doctor for anything that i may have it would certainly be his reputation and nothing else. |

sometimes the young one is better that the old
most male surgeons are better than females [ espicially in G&O ]
I don't trust a doctor with a tie [ trust me ] |

I think most of the above matter.
However my parents are still the ones who choose the doctor! |

Well personally I don't care about the religion, looks, or age. But I do choose doctors, according to their credentials, what school they graduated, and how long they have been a doctor. I usually like to pick a doctor, that is the same gender as I am. |

i guess only age matters. I would prefer a 40 to 48 years old doctor. An old doctor would have experience but would not be following the latest updates in medicine. A young doctor would not have the experience needed.
Anyway i never got in a health problem and just went to one doctor. Usually i take the opinion of more than one doctor.
Dont get confused: i am not rich i just dont trust that just one doctor will be right all the time. he/she are still human. |
