A return to pre 67' borders which consists of locking the Jews out of the Holy places and confines them to the part of Jerusalem built up after the 48' war of independence/statehood. Often refered to as the more modern Jerusalem.
However, it will not happen. Jerusalem will continue to be the stumbling block that stubs the toes of any peoples who try to divide her up. |

The capital city of Jerusalem is not that big to be carved up.
I have my doubts about it bringing peace. |

By using a nice carving knife. Dude, that won't be bring peace. |

....???

I don't think Israel should have to carve up the Capital City Jerusalem for peace... There seems protests in Palestine already over the whole deal... Carving up the Capital City in Jerusalem, will not end the conflict and bring peace but more demands in negotiating.... |

Whatever carving Israel agrees to (or doesn't), it will not bring peace. |

?

I say is a bad idea to do that. |

It should not be done. It is unfair that Israel has to give up everything |

We shouldn't do that. |

It sounds more like carving up a turkey for thanksgiving. We might have finally achieved peace in the middle east. |

to carve it up is not for peace. |

Olmert is the prime minister but he's not God! he can't make this decision alone, and NO ONE will agree!!! Knesset will never let him, the Israeli people won't let him.
Jerusalem is not negotiable!!! |

Israel should never do that. Jerusalem is our eternal capital.
Our "Eer Hakodesh".
I think that since Israel is a democratic country - this should go to voting, not in the Knesset (house of rep.) but the peoples' voting!!! |

NO CHANCE FOR CHANGE
Jews waited for two thousand years
go carve Paris, after all France is full of Muslims
Or as far as that goes carve London or Amsterdam or Rome, all these places are full of Muslims The world has fallen asleep |

jerusalem is already carved up .
the old city and the new city . they adjoin each other. one is the most holy for jews and christians and the other part is the big rock and section that is for the arabs. |

No. Bezrat HaShem the Israelis will never let it happen--that fool Olmert may talk about it but if he ever tries, someone will kill him. We already carved up Eretz Yisrael, we gave up Gaza, practically gave up the West Bank, gave up the Sinai, they can't take any more from us, and especially not Jerusalem. |

The more Israel gives away, the more terror they face.
(Not the other way around) |

I don't think it will be. Bush just doesn't want to be remembered as a war President. Imagine he made war with arabs and now he wants to go down in history as making peace with them. hehe. It's a good show! Cheers! |

you don't have to carve up Jerusalem--just get more land and peace will come |

That would indeed exacerbate the situation and increase hostility. The Jews will not remain silent on this issue. Any attempt to grab even an inch the City from Jewish hands will result in a blood bath. Jews as a whole, are not extremists as their Arab counterparts are, but this issue touches a deep nerve and after losing their City for 2,000 years, and only regaining full control 40 years ago, Jews this time will not flinch to spill blood for their rights. |

"How" is not the right word. You ought to have asked "whether," and the answer is NO! |
|

Whoo!

I think it's unbeleivable that giving up even a piece of Jerusalem is up for negoiation. UNBELEIVABLE! Like Ultra National said, we lost it for 2000 years. It's not going to happen again. |

Jerusalem is the soul of the Jewish people - Jews everywhere, not just Israelis, love Jerusalem and this holy city belongs to Israel and will never be divided.
Here are the lyrics to Jerusalem of Gold Naomi Shemer:
As clear as wine, the wind is flying
Among the dreamy pines
As evening light is slowly dying
And a lonely bell still chimes,
So many songs, so many stories
The stony hills recall ...
Around her heart my city carries
A lonely ancient wall.
Yerushalaim all of gold
Yerushalaim, bronze and light
Within my heart I shall treasure
Your song and sight.
Alas, the dry wells and fountains,
Forgotten market-day
The sound of horn from Temple's mountain
No longer calls to pray,
The rocky caves at night are haunted
By sounds of long ago
When we were going to the Jordan
By way of Jericho.
Yerushalaim all of gold
Yerushalaim, bronze and light
Within my heart I shall treasure
Your song and sight.
But when I come to count your praises
And sing Hallel to you
With pretty rhymes I dare not crown you
As other poets do,
Upon my lips is always burning
Your name, so dear, so old:
If I forget Yerushalaim
Of bronze and light and gold ...
Yerushalaim all of gold
Yerushalaim, bronze and light
Within my heart I shall treasure
Your song and sight.
Back to the wells and to the fountains
Within the ancient walls
The sound of horn from Temple's mountain
Again so loudly calls,
From rocky caves, this very morning
A thousand suns will glow
And we shall go down to the Jordan
By way of Jericho.
Yerushalaim all of gold
Yerushalaim, bronze and light
Within my heart I shall treasure
Your song and sight. |

Isn't Jerusalem Palestine's capital city, and holy land mark for the Muslims? |

your question is all wrong - even if Jerusalem is divided don't delude yourself for one minute in thinking that will bring peace - it's just stage one in many that will end up israel giving over the whole of israel back to the palastinians 'for the sake of peace'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The original land ceded by the British through the UN did not give all of Jerusalem to the Jews. The Jews occupied the rest as a consequence of its military successes. According to international law, it must be given back. It can make its part of Jerusalem the capital of Israel if it chooses. |

I think that we would carve it up, but I do not think that this sacrifice would bring us peace.
Maybe, in decades, if the next generations of Arabs are not raised to hate us, this would bring peace. However, it is too early. Making such a sacrifice now--before qassams are even stopped-- would be devastating to the Jewish state. |

Israel will not have to carve up Jeursalem at all, it will only have to give back what i took wrongfully, there is a difference. |

the same way that Palestine will have to carve up its capital city Jerusalem for peace.
