Not much... Atleast not in California... However, maybe in other states there is still Anti-Semitism... I also heard of an attack on a few Arabs, just because they were dressed as Arabs.... That is Anti-Semitism too, right??? |

more than you might think. i'd venture that every american jewish person here can tell a personal story of antisemitism.
my little neighborhood synagogue was vandalized one weekend, swastikas and such painted on it. we came for services and found it that way. and there are many others.
on the other hand, there are places where it is certainly not tolerated. just depends on the people you know, mostly. |

Whoa! I wish where I live, people wouldn't be anti-semitic. They always say, "He/she is such a Jew." I don't know how to explain, but the people always try to find something against Jews. It's painful to hear and see. And yes, I agree with Ultranational, a lot of the black people I know, are anti-semitic. Not sure why, though. |

In the sense associated with the term - skin-heads,neo-nazis,etc. - there is actually very little, although jewish organizations strive to give what little exists wildly exaggerated publicity since this benefits their efforts to stigmatize critics as antisemites. However it should be noted that begining in 1967 the American Left has moved progressively from a pro-zionist toward a fiercely antizionist stance, particularly since 1982. Today almost all American leftists are very highly antizionist; meanwhile almost all American jews are just as stauchly pro-zionist. Add to this the fact that virtually all jewish organizations officially regard antizionism as synonymous with anti-semitism and you can easily understand why they regard the entire Left as "antisemitic" - and as their enemy. Thus we are reminded of the dictum that one does not always chose one's enemies; sometimes they chose you. Jewish organizations have long since decided that antizionists are their enemy and since almost all leftists are antizionists they are - in practical terms - antijewish, although not by their choice, and application in this context of the term "anti-semitic' would be misleading. You cannot disregard an enemy, whether they are an enemy by your choice or theirs. In addition the jewish role in promoting legalization of abortion and the well-known fact that at least 60% of abortionists are jewish has interfaced interestingly with the little-known fact that polls consistently indicate approximately 70% of American women ( including me) are prolife and regard in-vitro infanticide as mass murder. Essentially,if you are talking of anti-semitism in terms of ethnic bigotry it is in fact quite rare, notwithstanding the immense publicity it receives. On the other hand,if you address the fact that huge segments of the population are at complete loggerheads with jewish organizations on at least two major issues,it emerges that antipathy to jewish political influence is rapidly escalating,as is concern regarding alleged and still-denied jewish domination of the mass media. Today you generally find that jews are well regarded only by highly ubranized liberals ( because of their mutually fervent pro-abortion stance) and with fundamentalist christians ( who believe they are the chosen people of yahweh). Otherwise they are increasingly viewed negatively,or at least with great cynicism. It is interesting to note that for all their enthusiam for abortion on demand in this country and in Europe, abortion on demand remains illegal in jewish-occupied Palestine. It is equally interesting to note that no matter how fervently jewish organizations embrace so-called christian zionists fundamentalists are still held in low personal regard by most American jews. Thus jews have also acquired something of a reputation for rank hypocrisy.
I hope you will find this sufficently honest, forthright and explanatory. I think it is an accurate portrayal of the status quo. |

I can't answer this but if you ever want to ask the same thing about the UK, I can tell you easily. I think in Britain both Jews and Muslims are getting a bad rap.
WOW - Maya just talks the biggest load of rubbish I think I've ever read!
The only honest answer given by a non Jew here is Da Man!
How are people like Maya and Gypsy Cat qualified to discuss anti semitism - they're hardly going to experience it!
MAYA - get your basic facts right. The only problem any Jew has with Christian fundamentalists is that alas, often, they have tried to convert us! You are trying to speak on behalf of Jews and newsflash! YOU CAN'T.
Oh dear, GYPSY CAT has clearly been visiting those neo nazi websites again, where they claim that Jews were involved in slavery, run the world and are currently to be found colonising the moon! (-none of this is true, for those that don't get sarcasm) |

I am not sure how to quantify antisemitism, but I know from personal experience that it exists everywhere in the U.S to some degree.
I encountered antisemitism in NY, Florida, and Minnesota. I am sure it is rampant in many other parts of the U.S...
I would not call the U.S a religious country.... From what I have read about the subway incident, someone yelled "Merry Xmas", the Jewish guy who was attacked yelled back "Happy Hanukkah", and then he was beaten up badly, until the Muslim guy jumped to help him. He was beaten up as well.... |

I've never encountered any anti-Semitism in the U.S. However, if any exists, it's because of people (I use that term loosely) like Ultra, who is apparently VERY, very anti-Celtic (that's a new one!) and who once referred to me on YA as a "savage" (I'm Native American).
However, it's finally dawning on the American people that Zionism isn't in their best interest. Ultra and his ilk would have one believe that anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism are one in the same, but intelligent people know better.
Edit: Since Jews in America were once highly involved in the slave trade, I don't doubt that African-Americans do not hold them in high regard.
Edit to Paperback: I don't get my information from Neo-Nazi websites. As a serious student of the U.S. Civil War, I have read literally hundreds of books on it and related subjects, including slavery; clearly, I'm more well-informed on this subject than you, Sweetie-Pie. |
