There are special fashionable swimsuits for veiled women.
They are very practical and decent. (some look like scooba-diving suits, but not so tight)
Many non-veiled women who feel shy wearing a regular swimsuit choose the ones for veiled women, particularly in public beaches and swimming pools.
Edit: For those who are thumbing down, are you doing so because you don't believe that there are special swimming suits for veiled women, or is it because you don't like to see veiled women swimming in public? I think that the thumbs down is made for wrong information only. If you have a different opinion, you should state it in you answer.

it is simple, look there are some women in hijab who are accustomed to swimming, there are special swimming suits that cover them and designed to let us swim normally, it almost looks like the divers suits, i can practice scuba diving in one of those while i'm a 100% covered and the suit is not tight at all.

Other women who go to the water in their full clothes to enjoy themselves with their families, I don't have any objection to their behavior as they are completely free to do whatever they want to do as long as they don't harm anyone, they have the same freedom to do for themselves, as the other women in bikini have.

btw, I saw non Muslim men and women; basically Europeans who wear t-shirts while going to the water !! to protect their skin against the harmful sun rays.....hence, it is much more essential and good enough reason to obey our lord and wear sth to cover our bodies if we want to swim

For women who wear hijab and niqab there have been swimsuits designed that allow a women to go for a swim and feel comfortable in knowing they are decently covered.
I remember Madonna who practices a form of Kabbalah influenced Judaic beleifs.
It is not only we Muslim women who have the choice and preference to cover" their adornments" in public.
Many Christian fundamentalist groups,he Roman Catholic Church as well as the Russian and Greek Orthodoxy and Copts and Jews all
believe that a woman should dress with dignity and decorum.
Which usually means the women cover their heads, hands and feet in public, sometimes this includes their entire body shape.
This is the law in countries where theology influences and or directs the system of government.

It depends on the country & traditions. Here in Russia there are a lot of muslim girls who wear bikini for swimming. But in some very strict Muslim countries they simply don't swim))))

Muslim women who wear the hijab wear special swim wear that they get from Intersport or Danduna .
it comes in many cuts and colors .
the head is covered with the plastic cap .
in this way , women can enjoy swimming while they obey God .
in every club , there are special hours for ladies , otherwise they can swim at any time in the mayot shar3i .
in Marina , there is a special beach for females where no man is allowed .
in this beach , women can be dressed as they like .

well i just came from swiming 15 minuts ago and i go to swiming in normal swiming suit but the condition is that the swiming pool is closed and the schedule i am get in is just for woman, not men is around...if i go open places the option is that we should go to a isolated beach for women or you wear something called hashema, wich is a dress special for swiming that includes kind of hijab so that we cover from the toes to the head or if you dont wanna wear that then just sit on the beach and do not swim that is.

Yasmeeeeen
well, i wear hijab and i swim in my clothes!!!

you can buy special swimming costumes though.

in saudi arabia it's against the law to swim.

hope this helps!

sabrina
most muslim countries i have visited where the muslim families have stayed in tourist hotels, they go in fully clothed or not at all. this includes; egypt inc cairo, sharm and luxor, Tunisia and Morocco.

I am in Egypt right now. I have to say, I have not seen the "strictly" dressed women swimming. Perhaps they use an indoor pool somewhere, but unlikely. That would be for the extremely wealthy!

swimming with hijab and full clothes is not acceptable in public beaches, because when clothes became wet, it makes the woman's body clearly identifiable

why hijab in the first place ? it's not hijab only
it's all woman's cloth that should be respectful and don't describe the woman's body and covers all body except for face and hands

There are 2 categories, normal decent modern Muslims, and extremist backward Muslims.
Modern ones are just like everybody wearing bikini and stuff while extremists wears a tent like huge bulky clothings and Abaya.

This summer I saw a few extremist Muslim girls while at the beach they went in the water with Hijab and Abaya and got pulled in by the strong waves they were rolling in the water my friends and I were laughing so hard and they couldn't get out because of the bulky stuff they were in, wish they drowned, that could teach extremists a lesson.

In SA there are women only or private beaches but most have swimming pool in their homes so there is no problem.

I am not sure about in Iran though but most Iranians in Bahrain wear bikini.
