I Lost My Beloved Sister?

My sister, who had all along been healthy and fit as a fiddle, suddenly fell ill on Thursday night. She saw a doctor on Friday morning – referred to hospital but could not be admitted because of the strike, instead was given some tablets. She got worse over the weekend. On Sunday night, my mom called me and we arranged for a doctor and she was admitted at a different hospital Monday morning. She passed on yesterday about 11:00.

I am angry at the health workers who went on strike knowing well that by agreement at the sectoral bargaining council, they should not. I am angry because my sister could have possibly been saved – or maybe she could still have passed on, we will never know. But it is human to find the “ifs” at times like this. My family believes that it has tasted the bitter fruits of the strike. And we wonder how many other families have been fed this bitterness. While I respect the unions’ right to ask for more pay for their members, I repeat what I said “most of the civil servants deserve no one cent more than what they earn now”.

Now, how has the strike affected you, if any?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Now is not a good time to debate the merits and demerits of the strikers but you may wish to raise it again in the future. Perhaps when you find out the cause of death it may help ease your pain and re-direct your anger. For the present deal with your loss and when the time is right we can get back to sparring.

Firstly I would like to express my condolences to you and your family. The strike has not affected me directly in any way but I fear for the effect it will have on other innocent people. People cannot be treated at hospitals unless in extreme emergency cases and some die and suffer needlessly as a result. In some areas exams have been postponed in the process damaging our youth's futures. The increase in wages will also probably have an effect on our interest rate and inflation as well with a more than likely possible increase on the way as a result of increasing wage demands.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

The strike hasn't affected me at all (touch wood).
The only thing that gets me is that I'VE just received a 6% increase - and these idiots are striking for double that. Why do they get to strike over an increase that's in line with the rest of the country? Even if they were originally offered 12%, they'd STILL be striking because it isn't 20%.

I'm so sorry for your loss Zim$. Re lla le wena.

Its a pity the irony in this whole strike i.e. They're striking to get an increase in their salaries ( for a better life for all), yet at the same time this strike is bringing about a lot of problems and unfortuante events.

Oh man, I can´t even pretend to imagine what you are going through.
Just know that there are a lot of people here and in your non-internet life that wish you the strength and clarity of thought to help you through.
Peace.

I'm sorry for your loss... It'll be a very hard time loosing someone you love. Why don't you try to sue the hospital since you think there's a mistake in the process of saving her?

Not in any way, but I'm truly sorry to hear about you're sister... I'd have also flipped a nerve.

You are right some of these so called workers dont deserve the increase because they hardly do anything.

When I lost one of my children (I was carrying two babies)... I went to the nearest clinic as I'd been bleeding. The nurses sent me from the maternity ward (which I'd been mistakenly sent to) with an attitude. There were plenty of pregnant women in there crying and in pain... the nurse sat with another, lazy and chatting.

The doctor told me I'd misscarried then sent me to the other clinic. I went there early as 6:30am and waited for the nurses to stroll in at 7:30am, make tea and get settled... thats when I got pissed. Gave up, took it as a misacarriage and left. For a week I was depressed and sickly, 'til my fiance found me a gyne in rivonia who told me my little boy was alive and well....

Then most want an increase? Yeah right.

Sorry for your loss...

We took my father in law to the hospital because he struggled to breath, we thought he was dying!!
They checked him in and thats it... He got oxygine, but it wasnt good enough, because he still couldnt breath. No one could help us, because they were STRIKING. We had to leave because visiting hours were over, they were very rude!! He had to get injections every 4 hours, he was there for 3 days. Got injections only twice in the 3 days. Eventually a docter came... looked at him and said he is fine and can go home. Didnt even check him. They didnt even give him a letter for work for being sick. The guy that was next to him peed his sheets and the floor, they didnt even clean him, the smell was awfull!!!!!!!!! The guy in the other room was actually dead for a day already, they didnt remove him - cause they were striking...

When he was suppose to check out there was nobody to do it, so he went home. Outside he found some of them striking.
It's pathetic!!!!!!!! They dont care about people or their lives!!!! Why are they nurses and docters then...... When you see a nurse... and try to ask her for help, she says sorry, cant you see were striking!!

We took my father in law to a nurses home where she tried to help him, we got oxygine from her friend whose mother died of asthma. So we were eventually helped. But he could have died. And could have gotten infections in the hospital, no one has been cleaning since the strike!!!!

I agree with indie*** with regards to striking etc. Yesterday there were 30 armed men running through my old high school in natal, trying to chase out staff who were supposed to be striking ... this was during school hours and the kids are now all traumatised. Cosatu is to blame ... they have been at it for at least 12 years.

Zim $ Im so sorry for your loss.

lindaronelmarx
Zim$ my friend, I am so sorry to hear of your terrible loss.
I have never been in support of strikes, and I strongly believe that Health services should NOT BE ALLOWED to strike.

You and your family must believe that she is now in a better place where those who had to leave their loved ones behind wait. It is a place where there is no hate, pain illness or heartache. There everybody is made whole and new and they run and play and laugh and one day they look down and see
a loved one arriving. They stop to play and go to meet their loved one. This cycle continuous until all the loved ones are together.
God has called and she had to go, even thou you are cross remember that nobody dies before their time.
You and your family will be in my prayers and thoughts.

Believe me, I do understand how you feel. In February 2005 my sister was taken up into hospital after being given wrong medicine by a Cuban doctor in SA. She was taken to the University hospital in Pretoria where the doctors made a second f..up and over medicated her to solve the first doctor's mess up. She went into a coma and died five days later. She was only 28. The Cuban doctor disappeared, probably back to Cuba and the insurance paid out her husband. Money or any excuse will never bring her back though. Last year in April my eldest brother past away.He suffered from cancer. He went for chemotheraphy and died from cardiac arrest whilst under treatment. The case is still under investigation. You see ,I have lost complete trust in the SA medical system.
Sorry about your loss, that is all I can offer. For the rest,Pray that you never need the SA medical system.

$ im so sooorrry for your loss... im so emotional right now its as if one of my family has passed on.. sniff sniff. Things are going to get better. Although the strike had a hand in it, my way of seeing it is that your sister got called...i.e her final hour had come and just know that she is now @ a better place...sniff :-(

gunner2za
my sincere sympathies to you.........................strike hasnt affected me at all

I really am so sorry for your loss...We're not in SA at the moment....
It is so hard losing someone close to you and the fact that your sister died because of the strike affecting her admittance to hospital is just awful....Your bitterness is understandable considering the tragic consequences thereof...my deepest condolences to you and your family...You are in my thoughts

indiekak
First up condolences for your loss.
The only way the strike affects me is that i get a good laugh at the strikers on the news coverage,as they try to look so important and intellegent on tv when all they're doing is making an *** of themselves and SA.
Surely the first thing you do when accepting a job is agree to work for a certain wage and benefits,so what then gives you the right to then go on strike because you're not happy with it?
But then again i suppose the union bosses have got to do something every now and again to show that they don't just take the union members fee's and stick it in their back pockets, like every other person in power.
All this striking must make a person wonder who actually runs this nation of ours.cos its not the government.
Oh yes,and has anyone of you actually seen a white person in the striking crowds?NO i haven't.
The criminals must be having a field day, what with the saps also on strike..Oh sorry, you're right. They dont count for much anyway, unless you're caught driving while talking on a cell phone,or bust for an outstanding traffic fine. Then they're all tough cos you don't carry a weapon so you're not a threat to them.

Frigging bunch of retards is what they are..

Anyway enough venting for now.

2010? I hope not.Just to teach these plonkers a small lesson.
